  1. Thanks Crossy, never would have thought that concrete would have better conductivity than soil, learn something new everyday. Just sank the earth rod yesterday, was quite surprised how soft the soil was, I was expecting it to be much harder.

Won't be going mad and grounding everything, just all the sockets especially the outside ones. Anything above head height won't be done. Estimate it will cost no more than 2000 baht, rod was only 150 a few different size reels of green wire and maybe the odd socket or two. Stupid thing is we have mostly all 3 pin sockets but of course no wiring to the earth pin, must be how the original spark got away with telling the owner that it was wired to EU specs facepalm.gif .

  2. After years of suffering the little tingles so common in Thailand I have finally had enough and am going to be installing an earth in my rented house. I will be doing the work myself as I don't trust any Thai spark further than I could hit them with a static shock.

I have done residential electrical installation in the past to UK wiring regs so am familiar with equipotential bonding but was wondering if the steel trusses in my attic should have an earth connection made to them?

Worst thing I've seen so far while doing this project is the house when it was wired (accordingly to european standards according to the owner) was wired with about half of the live wiring done in GREEN!!! wire..<deleted>!. Luckily I had the sense to open the CU and checking the state of play rather than assuming any green wire I was going to come across would be earthed...TIT.

  3. I Have used Shipito a lot in the last 4 years and if you have multiple packages to send I have found that there is big savings in using the MSP (Multiple shipment package?) option where they combine up to 10 packages in the same shipment. Doing this I have had savings of up to 60% over the charge for shipping individual items.

  4. I downloaded today the expat tv player and UKTV players and the UKTV player is way better as mentioned, I got the UKTV player from a download link in another thread but haven't been able to find the android UKTV player. I'd be grateful if someone could provide a link for the android apk?

  5. I wanted to connect through an Android box to my 61" HDTV set but from the sounds of it the picture would be terrible, can anyone confirm the picture quality on Thai Expat onto a big screen?

Picture and sound quality has improved significantly (especially the sound) since the previous discussion took place.

Whilst they dont stream in HD they do seem to use UK HD signals as a source, at least for the BBC channels. These channels look quite a bit better than the ones that come from an SD source and, for the programmes I watch, the overall quality is acceptable on a 55in screen. Caveat: I dont watch sport and I view via my PC and an HDMI lead, not via an Android box. Sport, with its fast movements, may pose a problem.

You are right, fast movement, like football, can be a problem.

I've watched UKTV on 2 computers, one of them (which I now use all the time) is just about ok for watching football etc but the other one was awful, I was told that it was because the spec for that PC was too low, so if you plan to watch the world cup try to get a decent spec PC. I've also found that UKTV/THAI EXPAT TV is better quality than sport365.

For normal programming I find either spot on, on either PC.

Thanks guys, I have just signed up for the free trial and will check it out. Another question is I have multiple PC's and Tv's and was wondering if the subscription allows viewing on more than one pc or if a subscription for each PC would be needed ?

  6. I'm considering either 365Sports or ThaiExpat Tv for the world cup, I would prefer commentary from BBC?ITV which is with ThaiExpat TV but have concerns that the FAQ on their website says they don't stream HD;

"At present it is not possible to view HD channels with our system. We have the capability to provide a HD stream, the problem is the minimum requirement for stable HD streaming is 10MB. Once enough of our customers have sustainable internet at the speed, we will be launching a full HD service.

I wanted to connect through an Android box to my 61" HDTV set but from the sounds of it the picture would be terrible, can anyone confirm the picture quality on Thai Expat onto a big screen?

  7. RS Have World Cup rights not GMM. It appears that all CTH footy channels will be made available on GMM. Vice versa with all GMM sport channels amongst others being made available on CTH for no extra cost to current subscribers. I think GMM customers who want EPL will pay 999bht p/m.... Why it's taken so long to agree an arrangement like this is beyond me!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

What/who is RS? Are they satellite or cable? Hope that doesn't mean another box by my TV or god forbid another dish, the missus already thinks the house looks like a NASA building

  8. Channel 8 has English commentary if you press the green audio button, though English isn't showed as one of the options on the pop up audio selection. No English on the Media channel, the picture quality is absolutely shocking though on both channels.

  9. If I have a 1 year multiple entry Non-Imm Education Visa issued outside Thailand, what are the rules on reporting to immigration and travelling outside Thailand?

I was told by the school that the Visa is only valid for the 90 days the Immigration stamped me in for and that before the 90 days where up I would have to visit immigration with paperwork from the school to extend the visa and pay 1900 baht, is this correct? I thought I could exit Thailand before the 90 days were up and then as long as I re-entered on before the "enter before" date on the visa stamp that I would get another 90 days?

The school also told me that I would need to get a re-entry permit from immigration for each trip outside Thailand and the cost was 1000 for single and 3800 for multiple but they said the multiple re-entry permit was only valid for 90 days, I would have though that the re-entry permit was valid for the length of the visa if it is indeed required at all, otherwise whats the point of a multiple entry visa?

  10. Thanks for all the replies. So seeing that it is possible and I have legitimised my child at the amphur does the initial visa have to be made in a consulate outside Thailand or would I be able to change my current non-imm B to non-imm O in Thailand and then get extensions in Thailand going forward ?

I talked to the consulate in Cardiff and they said they wouldn't give me a VIsa to support a child.

  11. I'm looking at applying for a Non Imm O visa based on having a child in Thailand with a Thai partner but not married. I have had so much conflicting information it's not real.

The girlfriend who I have the child with asked at Jomtien Immigration office and was told it was possible by one person and not by another, both persons work at the immigration office facepalm.gif . I then saw an article in Pattaya Trader in November, attached, that said it was possible, yet the same Visa company said when I visited their office that it wasn't clap2.gif .

So getting really frustrated with this, has anyone actually managed to get a Visa to support a child?

I have been told that you can get one if your over 50, I'm under, but neither immigration or the visa shop mention a restriction on age.

  12. I don't fly in any model Airbus. Look up their record. They have to many "incidents".

There are French, British and other nationalities working on Airbus planes. The British make several

Models of the Rolls Royce engines which are very good engines.

I just don't want a plane that was made by people speaking different languages. There is to much

Technical date involved.Nothing negative about either nationality. One common language

On a product this complex it is much better.

My nephew worked at the Boeing at Everett, Washington, USA. the largest building in the world

    Under one continous roof.

He also said he wouldn't fly in a Airbus plan.

I have flown to Thailand probably 8 times in recent year aboard 747's and 777's

I trust the General Electric engines and Boeing planes.

    ChuLai 6768

Really, Boeing 787, bwaahahahahha, should be renamed Nightmare Liner what a dream that turned out to be, give me a plane designed by people who understand metric anyday.
