  1. Your MSI Wind uses an Atom processor. While it might be okay for basic tasks, due to cost and cooling it is sadly lacking when it comes to anything processor intensive (a five year old budget desktop is faster than an MSI Wind). Avast is always running in the background and Avast is processor intensive when it runs as are most anti-virus programs.

  2. The extension probably broke things, they're not all problem free. When installing extensions best practice is to install and relaunch one by one as it's easier to pinpoint what's causing the problem. Been like that even before Firefox was called Firefox.

  3. The delivery ladies made a mistake delivering to the wrong address, no scam here, move right along.

Mai Krap and onethailand get it. As for those of you who would take the chance to scoff the Yakult and refuse to pay... how hard up are you to refuse to pay 68 baht?

  4. The times I've seen System Restore not work like you said was when the version of XP was not original. Could also be why your updates don't work, Microsoft are getting smarter and pirated copies that might have worked in the past now don't.

Prefetch shouldn't have anything to do with your problem as you can delete all your prefetch files and everything still works the next time you boot up, deleting them is often included in tips to speed up your computer.

  5. I had classes at a school that actually runs on time with some western managment. I was forced to buy another ticket with another ailine. The manager for Air Asia in CM was simple a pathetic and rude person that I would not hesitate to break his nose next time in CM in 2 weeks time. I will do every thiong I can to let people know about this compnay and the attitude of their staff. I know that I can cost them alot more money on the net than they stole from me.

Are you a teacher or a student? If you're a teacher which school do you teach at... one day I might need to suggest one for someone and it would make things easier if I could start by ruling out any that employ teachers with anger management problems who can't even spell... nothing personal you understand but the attitude of staff is important.

  6. I would like to advise users of your website never to fly on Qatar Airways.

In short, stay well clear of this "airline".

It is sad to hear your tale, and I am sure we all wish it had not happened to you, or anybody else. But to try to 'blacklist' any Airline for your own personal 'vendetta' is infantile behaviour. Please grow up! Having to wait for long boring periods in airport lounges is all part of the routine for millions of people. In these troubled economic times it is a miracle that any airline manages to keep schedules running, they are facing numerous uncertainties.

I have flown with Qatar many times, they are a world class Airline and I will use them again :D

Finally this is a Thai based website, yet your posting has nothing to do with Thailand :D

So you became a member of thaivisa just to defame an airline?? I am sure there are other ways.
After that tantrum, I'll be flying Qatar Airways next time I fly to Bangkok.

mgacourt probably won't be back as they are very busy on the internet.

I imagine Qatar are glad to see the back of him :)

  7. Mark, does your version of Nero include Nero Express? If the files you want to burn are already in .avi format then in NE select Data DVD, choose the .avi files you want and away you go. Takes 10-20 minutes to burn a full DVD of an average TV season depending on how fast your system is.

Your problem to me sounds like you are trying to transcode files that don't need to be transcoded if they are .avi as many tv shows from the net are. Every DVD player I've used in Thailand will play .avi files as is without the need to do anything to the files.

    CDBurnerXP is good too

Write a paragraph in a novel, six year sentence

Alter some photos on the internet, ten year sentence.

Throw dozens of people piled on top of each other in the back of trucks and leave them to die, no problem, only doing your job  :)

  9. "I think, given the recent experience with these things with other well-known identities, you would understand these things are never straightforward,'' he said.

    A reference to Tony Mokbel?

Uh, I believe the lack of things being less than "straightforward" in the Land of Oz go beyond the relatively recent and recall other "well-known identities" such as Mr. Nugan and Mr. Hand.

Could also have been James Kinch, ongoing case, mentioned here on Thai Visa before.

There's a 24 hour medical clinic directly opposite the Seven-Eleven but even that didn't save the poor guy. Let's hope they find the killers soon.

  10. There are hardly any courses due to the climate but seems they are building more.

How about ringing the Russian Embassy? Someone there might know what's going on.

  11. There are some shops at Pantip, Fortune and Zeer that have what you want. Can't tell you the shop names but I think there are a couple in the same part of Fortune as the Data IT store. The others you will just have to walk around unless someone can give you some names but you will know them when you see them from the window displays.

  12. $5,000 is more than a years wages for a seven employee. What chance the seven employees are in on the scam? It would explain how quickly the police arrived on the scene. I imagine the officers were part of the undercover Farang Donut Crime Supression Unit (Div. 7/11) covertly observing the donut counter all along.

Seriously though, how can you be charged with stealing if you haven't even left the premises. If you refuse to pay sure, but if you are prepared to pay then I don't see how you can be. If you are caught in someone's house before you steal anything they get you for breaking and entering or going equipped to steal but eating donuts? I was always taught never to open or eat anything before paying but I still don't see why this guy ended up in jail over this other than it being a scam. Any lawyer would probably have the charge dismissed very quickly but in Thailand if police suggest to a two week tourist they will be going to jail and not going home for months while awaiting trial then it's not hard to believe people will pay up.

  13. Taxi was allocated at the table as usual (I haven't gone to departures for a taxi since Don Muang).

Driver started complaining not long after leaving the airport about how far he had to go and how he wanted more than the usual fare. It was only then I noticed the meter wasn't on, probably only the third time I have ever had that happen anywhere as despite what people say I've found Thai taxi drivers almost always turn on the meter, no need to ask. I asked him to turn the meter on and he started getting very aggressive. He eventually turned on the meter and as it was late at night I shut up but it was a very unpleasant ride home as he muttered this and that and I started wondering if I was going to get mugged. Went to use my phone and he started up again, phone battery was almost dead and no answer anyway. When I got to where I live he really didn't want to show any ID but the security guys refused to let him in unless he handed his license over.

Thought hard about complaining as I had the form they give you but decided against it as he knew where I lived. I don't know if anything would have come of it if I complained so just wrote if off to experience. I don't live in a tourist area so I usually don't get ripped off so rarely have any disagreements with anyone Thai. If I do I just walk away but I didn't have that option.

The other time I went to get in to the taxi but there was some stuff on the front seat so I had to get in the back. Again late at night and I was tired. It was only when I got home that I realised there wasn't even a meter in the taxi. The driver laughed and asked for more than the usual fare. I gave him the correct fare, no tip, he wasn't happy but nothing unpleasant. Because I'm a long way from the airport I know it isn't easy for a driver to get another fare late at night so I do give a decent tip usually.

  14. Never once in 5 years have I had a taxi (allocated at the table) attempt not to use the meter.
I always used to say the same but last couple of times have not been pleasant. One taxi didn't even have a meter and the driver of the other became very aggresive when I reminded him to turn the meter on. For a time I felt like I was going to be assaulted, it got that nasty.
  15. Time to get tough with these loudmouth, drunken, disrespectful Aussies. Start chopping off some hands and maybe they'll learn some respect. It's Aussie scum like this who give all farang a bad name in Thailand.

In the case of Mr. Kearney who stole not one but several doughnuts it's clear now this criminal should have been shot the moment he tried to flee from the police. If things had been sorted on the spot then we wouldn't now be faced with the Australian media attempting to tarnish the image of Thailand yet again. The Thais generously allow him to leave the country after what ammounts to a slap on the wrist and this is what they get in return. Disgraceful!

  16. Asked about admitting to stealing a bar mat, she said: "I had to do what I had to do to get out."

Ms Smoel arrived home after spending 18 days in the holiday town of Phuket - including four nights in jail accused of stealing the mat from the Aussie Bar.

"The governor of Phuket was there and he guaranteed me personally that I wouldn't go to jail if I pleaded guilty," she told reporters.

"If I'd pleaded not guilty it would have taken months to go to trial and I just had to come home."

    http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...754-661,00.html

The media coverage continues to be interesting...

THREE young Melbourne women say they were interrogated and taunted by staff over an alleged stolen bar mat at the same Phuket bar where Annice Smoel was arrested.

"One security guard said to me, 'Do you know what it's like for girls like you in a Thailand prison?'," she said.

"The other taunt that they gave us was that, 'You should start calling the Australian embassy because there's a good chance you won't be seeing your family again'."

  17. Earlier comments on how a place like Hawaii with a large tourist economy deals with incidents like this demonstates an intelligent way of resolving things for all parties concerned. Unfortunately this won't work in Thailand because the police wouldn't allow it as they would miss out on all the income they generate for themselves. That a bar in Phuket needs the presence of undercover police says a lot.

On Australian radio today there was story after story told from people who had holidayed in Thailand who were robbed, scammed, attacked and abused, and how in nearly every case the police would not lift a finger to help them.  :D One interview with I think the husband of the woman charged was interrupted to put to air a woman who had had a similar problem at the very same bar but who was able to make the case go away by paying the police the equivalent of more than two thousand Australian dollars...  :)

One of the big problems with a lot of these cases is that even if you get bail you can't leave the country for possibly months. Simon Burrowes gets fined 500 baht in the end but spends weeks in jail, loses his job and his flat and incurs who knows how much in other expenses. You can be charged with a second degree felony carrying a maximum 15 year sentence in the US yet they will allow you bail without any mention of surrendering your passport leaving you free to depart the country and return if required.

There is a Thai tourist police, maybe it would be in everyone's interests to have a Thai tourist court to expedite cases like this because forcing someone to remain in Thailand for months awaiting trial for what is essentially a trivial charge is wrong. Does it really require 48 days to investigate the case? How many times do you hear on the news of some serious crime being committed and the local police chief telling reporters how they will have it solved in seven days yet cases like this will take 48 days to investigate? I remember the thread on Thai Visa a few months ago about someone's Thai MIL being charged with shoplifting at Tesco and how she was sentenced and in jail all within days. When foreigners are involved in cases like this then most people who have been in Thailand awhile will assume that it has only got to the present stage due to police not being offered a suitable incentive earlier on. By the way, how's our young hi-so Mercedes weilding Thai murderer these days? Sentenced to how many years and spent how much time behind bars?  :D

If anything good is to come out of this latest incident it will be that tourism from Australia falls futher. Been on a Thai Airways flight from Australia recently? My last couple have been almost empty. The kicker will be when the Thai government throws another hundred million baht towards a promotion aimed at reviving tourism from Australia. Millions will get skimmed off by some officials and a party of highly connected Thais will get an all expenses paid first class trip to Australia to swan about casinos and five star resorts as part of the promotion.  :D

  18. Kuhn Yaketyak, how are you today? I trust life is treating you well.

I was wondering if you could spare a moment to assist me please. I believe you mentioned in a previous posting being able to withdraw 100,000 baht in a single ATM transaction. Could you please advise where I might find such an ATM in Bangkok and the type of account I would need to have to do as you do.

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

    Jeffer  :)

  19. Right now you can get fabulous performance from the ATI 4770. US list price is a smidge over 100 USD. For processor I would definitely look for something with a sub 95w rating; this will run cooler and save you money. AMD offers some 45w processors, but only up to dual-core. With your stated work load I do question the need for more than 2 cores, but it is your money!

The 4770 seems to be the card to get in the budget price range right now. The standard versions are selling for SD179 most places in Singapore but it's sold out almost everywhere as supply can't keep up with demand worldwide. Haven't seen it on sale yet in Bangkok but I imagine this will change over the next few weeks. Expect to pay around 4000 when it becomes available.
