  1. If you're using Windows then do a disk cleanup and also delete old system restore files. Don't forget to clean out the recycle bin.

You can reduce the size of the disk space set aside for the recycle bin and system restore while you're at it.

If you're thinking of installing a video card to game then think carefully. If it's new games you wish to run then don't bother. Most old brand name computers with integrated graphics like yours are unlikely to have a modern PCI Express slot. Even if they do, the processor is going to be too slow for many of todays games. e.g. a socket 478. To add extra storage will mean adding a new PATA drive, available still but old technology again.

The best solution is a new computer. Even a 15,000 baht off the shelf computer will leave your current one for dead. Get one built to order for 20k with a decent video card and it will play most games at medium resolution on a 19" monitor. A 250GB harddrive sells for around 1500 baht compared to the 40GB drive you have now which probably sold for over 5k bt. when new. Upgrading what you have is a poor choice imo when you consider what is available new today at bargain basement prices.

  2. Always possible your e-mail account is blocking Thai Visa e-mail as spam so doesn't hurt to check your mail options. Make sure your mail options are set to always accept mail from Thai Visa i.e. white list TV.

  3. How many new threads on windows 7 news (and I use 'news' very loosely here) will this forum bear ??

The official forumula is complex and secret, but the answer is: roughly less than the number of new threads on MaxNet performance. :o

    :D:D

I doubt if anyone would object if as a super moderator Reimar was to merge the different MaxNet performance threads into one...

  4. How many new threads on windows 7 news (and I use 'news' very loosely here) will this forum bear ??

    Agree 100%.

No offence Reimar but maybe it's time you started a dedicated sub-branch like the Linux in Thailand one just for Windows 7, or possibly a Microsoft in Thailand sub-branch.

  5. Whenever I've compared prices between Jetstar and Thai on the Bangkok - Melbourne route it's always been farly easy to find Jetstar flights for about $300 cheaper than Thai. Cost of a meal is about $15 and it's ok, I have a jacket with me so don't need a blanket, I always take a book to read and an MP3 player so I get by without in flight entertainment. They sell an entertainment pack so check the Jetstar site for all the prices charged for extras.

Leg room is not great so anyone over 180cm may prefer to pay the extra to fly Thai. I've flown Jetstar and Tiger many times and found them to be no worse than full fare airlines when it comes to punctuality. I've only flown to Melbourne once with Jetstar and would again if I was saving $300. If there was less than $100 difference I would probably fly Thai.

  6. They probably do but if not then just go to Seven Eleven or any major bank and try paying there. If one place doesn't accept it then the next one you try usually will e.g. Seven accept my TOT bill but not my AIS bill, have to go to a tiny mini mart in the next soi to pay that one. So long as the bill isn't overdue 'cause that's when you start to have problems.

  7. Simon, no idea how upmarket your property is but what's wrong with simply printing off the info and inserting it into a display binder for each room like most places do? Free wi-fi and a computer in reception sounds better than many 10 room guesthouses offer anyway, unless of course you want an excuse to play around with some technology.

  8. I also noticed that in gate D6 there are now two new computer stands with keyboard/monitor/ball-type built-in mouse offering free internet access. That is something very unique in any airport in the world.

Free internet access at an airport is unique? Not really. Try Singapore for starters, a lot more than 2 access points, even free terminals in the budget terminal as well as free wi-fi everywhere.

  9. Old fleet, yes. But look at Qantas, 20+ years old B767s, scrap metal is most of their fleet. Back in 1992, the last flight when smoking was allowed (WEL-SYD) the 767 was 7 years old. It is still in service, 17 years on.

Did you hear about QF offering free tickets to the public, just to come to Australia?

Going by some of their flights from Australia to Thailand lately then maybe Thai should also consider free tickets, plenty of empty seats they could give away.

  10. For the most part not having dual language isn't really a problem using most of the sites listed. It's pretty easy to work out what's going on. If there is something in Thai you don't understand then all you need do is c+p into Google translate.

If you want to use a credit card then the one site listed that allows you to do so is in my experience usually the most expensive so compare prices as you may end up paying substantially more even before you factor in any other costs incurred by using a credit card.

  11. If you want something ready made then Acer or HP Compaq. You say a P4 does the job so look for a computer with an Intel E5xxx series processor, cheap and will out perform your old P4. Next step up will be E7xxx, then E8xxx. Unless VBA makes use of 4 cores then Dual Core is all you need. Make sure you can add in more RAM, 3GB or 4GB max as unless you're using a 64bit OS anything over 3GB won't be of much use. If you need to buy a separate budget monitor then the Acer X193W is worth a look.

  12. I noticed yesterday that torrents using pirate trackers (e.g. EZTV) were offline or continually being timed out. Why I don't know but just checked and still happening. Torrents with other trackers are still working as usual for me.

  13. Plenty of sites (not just Thai) require Java so all features work. I don't know if that's the problem with the BigIT site but if it is and you choose not to run Java then it's your choice, no point in complaining that the site doesn't work the way it should. It would be like driving on a poor rural road that requires a 4x4 and complaining when your 2WD sedan gets bogged. I'm not a programmer but I don't have your problems using the BigIT site with Opera.

I'm still not sure from your reply if you have any cookies for language.

  14. Opera and Big IT website user here.

I'm just wondering if you might have cookies turned off. I've just checked and no problem with English as I navigate from page to page. Even in English there are still some Thai bits but it's only "read more from the manufacturer" type sentences. When I switch to Thai I get a version with much more Thai on the page. I'd be more worried as to why there is so many items marked "out of stock" lately.

My current rant about Thai websites is why bother having a contact e-mail if no one bothers answering. I'm talking international companies where simple questions like e.g. I want to buy 10 x product X, please tell me some of your retail outlets at Pantip Plaza or Fortune IT, or, is product Y from your company sold in Thailand?. I want to buy their product but they can't even tell me where it's sold. Being international companies you know they have people who can read English. I did ring one company where the nice lady I spoke to couldn't tell me one shop where their own brand name products were sold. She did ring me back later with the names of several shops but when I went there they didn't sell anything from that company. No wonder I keep spending my money in Singapore.

  15. Rarely had a problem with taxis but my last two trips from the airport...

No meter, not even one installed so he got what I knew was reasonable and didn't complain much but the last driver started complaining on the highway that where I wanted to go was too far so he wanted double the normal meter fare. Closest I've ever gotten to coming to blows with a taxi driver. He was yelling and cursing at me in Thai and being very threatening. I couldn't get out on the highway at midnight and my bag was in the trunk so I knew he would drive off if I gave him half a chance. Made it to where I live and security gave him a hard time because he didn't want to hand over his ID. Three minutes arguing with security before he handed it over as they refused to let him in otherwise and started talking about calling the police. He also took me the long way round, an extra 15kms despite my telling him the way to go. Worst taxi driver ever so got the correct fare for the shorter route and no tip, and I usually give a generous tip because I know the driver will find it hard to get another fare out my way after midnight.

Most drivers if they don't want to take you somewhere or their shift is almost over will flag down another cab for you.

  16. There are a couple of online suppliers listed in there as well as some shops stocking Sennheiser but I know what you mean, just because they have them listed for sale doesn't mean they have any stock, happens a lot in Thailand. Try some of the other shops in Paragon and Emporium.   Shop4Thai are overpriced anyway.
