  1. I am sure this has been asked many times before, but forgive me, did a search and search function seems to have changed.

I know you can apply for a partner visa for Australia, with the eventual aim here to migrate to Australia for my partner, in either Thailand, looong waiting time and work won't wait for me,

    OR

Apply in Australia if the prospective partner has a "Substantial Visa"

Definition of that not on the Oz Immigration web site though they quote it a lot, that I can find.

Can the wife enter Australia (married 14 years, 2 kids with Aussie passports) on a regular tourists visa, then apply for partner visa (class 802 I think) from within Australia?

Does she have to leave to get the visa? (not an issue)

    Thanks,

Again some great threads, but I am interested in applying within Australia, not from outside

  2. I fully understand the OP's concern, i am placing my daughter on her 13th birthday in a nunnery in a remote mountain in Peru, we'll let her out when she's 42.

I honestly expect (and hope) that people in mostly her age range do look at her and think she's someone they like.

It's all about laying down ground rules for dating, being with boys, and also explaining not just the birds and bee's. But also how boys will try to smooth talk her, how they will act etc, when to sense a dangerous situation.

I find sharing that knowledge is better to arm/empower her.

If people look at her, I don't care that much, unless it's a Thai Visa monger :)

  3. If your not a heavy user, I agree, for a number of years I rented a few times a month, for weekends away etc, for a holiday I'd do a one week rental, good place I know near Victory Monument and it cost for a Altis 800 a day, so great value. When kids started going to school, cost of the school bus was almost the same as monthly car repayments, so bought a car as it was now being used three or more times a day.

I think more people could hire and be just as happy. I was for a number of years

  4. Was there over the weekend, it can be done in a day if you want, it's about an hour and a bit from Bangkok. I think I'd be bored after one day.

Driving or bicycle to all the sites is easy, dual entry fees, however not all sites seem to be government run, some seem just to be open.

Local food is great, I go often, never had bad food there, YMMV,

We usually eat on the "edges" overlooking water, not expensive and pleasant, it's not that hot, but then I've lived here for a while.

It is hard to find all the monuments, there are some outside of town too,

Also the Japan Village worth a drop in if being a tourist is what you want to do, it's the site of the earliest Japanese trading settlement back centuries ago of course.

    Well worth the visit.
