  1. the name of this forum is THAI VISA FORUM not Cambodia Visa Forum

the price for a visa to cambodia is 1000 baht

The price for a visa to enter Cambodia is $20 USD (http://www.cambodia-immigration.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=50〈=en), which is what you pay if you arrive at airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

The last time I entered Cambodia through Poipet, there was a sign posted saying the visa fee is $20 USD. However, the thieving Cambodian Immigration staff insisted everyone pay 1000 Thai baht, which is at least 50 percent higher than the official rate set by the Cambodian government.

Purchasing a Cambodian entry visa online $25 USD. According to this website (http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh/e-visa/vindex.aspx), the evisa can be used at both international airports, but only 2 land crossings.

  2. I live on Sukhumvit Soi 77 near the On Nut BTS station. It is about 20 km to the airport, and the meter fare is usually around 130 baht. Even with the 50 baht airport taxi charge and a tip, I rarely pay more than 200 baht to or from the airport. I would normally like the idea of a high-speed train between the airport and business district simply to avoid traffic jams and drivers who believe they are Michael Schumacher.

  3. "Tried Kasikorn ATM today in Bangkok and it asked for 150 THB fee. Canceled the transaction and used Bank Of Ayudhya - zero fee."

Well, it looks like the venerable old Kasikorn-- formerly the alleged "Farang Friendly Bank" has joined the ranks of the United-Usury-Alliance and begun charging the confiscatory 150 Baht fee for all ATM foreign account Debit Card withdrawals.

This apparently leaves Ayudhya and GSB still not charging the fee -- Presumably GSB ( Government Savings Bank ) will remain fee-free, since they're not a member of the cabal that conspired on this latest screw-the-farang escapade-- unless they also make the decision at some point to jump on the greed band-wagon.

Earlier reports had GSB with the highest per-transaction amount of 30,000 Baht, but one report from Samui with only a 20,000 limit.

UOB ( United Overseas Bank ) was also reported as fee-free, but only in one report, as I recall.

If anyone has recent updates on GSB and UOB, it would be nice to have them reported-- as well as the continuing reports on Ayudhya.

Today, Saturday, 16 May about 12 noon:

ATMS at both the Kasikorn Bank and Bank of Ayudhya in the Bangkok On Nut area asked for the 150 baht per foreign withdrawal transaction. The United Overseas ATM did not state they were charging the 150 baht transaction fee. The effective transaction rate at the UOB ATM was about 34.11 baht per USD withdrawn. The Kasikorn TT rate today was 34.42 baht per USD.

  4. I think this could prejudice those tourists who have booked & paid in advance, surely these guests are those that the hotels wish to secure, the return market is the key to success.

Who pays for a hotel in advance?

Tourists booking hotel rooms online usually pay for the room in advance.

Addtionally, it is standard practice in many Pattaya Hotels that walk-in Hotel guests pay for their rooms in advance for the full length of their stay, due to guests sometimes booking a room for one or more weeks, but checking out after a couple of days. Additionally, many hotels also require the guest to pay a deposit (often 500 baht) in case they use any of the overpriced room service crap the hotel management stocks in the rooms, even though the guests don't want it.

  5. My ex currently lives in Kham Khun Kaeo.

As the prior member stated, if you can get a bus to the bus stations in either Muang Yasothon, or Ubon Ratchathani, then you can get local buses or songthaews down the main road to Amphur Kham Khun Kaeo.

I also thought about visiting there this Songkran, but Air Asia fares from Bkk to Ubon are quite high if you buy within a week of travel.

Bus companies put all available vehicles in service during Songkran, but many thousands take this opportunity to go home during this time.

Many small Issan villages and amphurs have minivans that make regular trips to and from Bkk.

  6. IMO, absolutly immoral and unethical action by any law enforcement group, and certainly those foreign volunteers, if the facts described in the news articles posted by SRJ occurred as described.

I'm sure some Pattaya foreign volunteer police members view this forum. Perhaps some would step up, and justify or explain their side of the story, or at least clarify the facts.

  7. I held the 100 baht in my hand for a few seconds before passing it thru the window, while looking at the other passengers. The driver had the national smile on display as he took my money. He know what I was thinking.

I didn't really care about the other passengers because it took only a few seconds to stop and pick them up, and I knew that 100 baht is the common baht bus fare from S. Pattaya to the bus station.

I also know it is a standard 10 baht fare from S. Pattaya to Jomtien, but that is a normal route with many passengers. If there is a normal baht bus route from S. Pattaya to the Bus Station, I am not aware of it.

  8. Today, I hailed a moving empty baht bus on 2nd road near Pattaya Tai intersection, and asked the fare to go to the bus station on Pattaya North Road.

Quoted a fare of 100 baht, which was in line with fares I have paid before, so I hopped in.

Just after the baht bus turned right on Pattaya North Road, he picked up 2 passengers.

When we got off at the bus station, I paid my 100 baht, and they each paid 10 baht.

    Any guidelines for this situation?

  9. I understand the late penalty for late VAT filing is as follows:

"Although the penalty for late VAT filing is twice the amount of the VAT payable, a ministerial regulation authorizes significant reductions in this penalty at the discretion of the Revenue Department officials. Under this regulation, the penalty can be reduced to 2 percent of the penalty amount if payment is made within 15 days; 5 percent of the penalty amount if payment is made more than 15 but not later than 30 days after the deadline; 10 percent of the penalty amount if payment is made more than 30 but not later than 60 days after the deadline; and 20 percent of the penalty amount if payment is made more than 60 days after the deadline."

I also understand the Thai Revenue Department will assess penalties if you fail to file monthly even when you have zero income, and have no VAT tax receipts.

However, I have been unable to find a reference showing what the penalty amounts would be for failing to file zero income reports on time.

Does anyone know what the penalties would be for failing to file zero income reports on time?

    Thanks

  10. My permission to stay stamp for my retirement visa was set to expire on February 22, 2009.

Because I was going to be traveling outside Thailand for about 5 weeks, I went to the Suan Phlu Thai Immigration office on January 14 to apply for a 1 year extension. Thai Immigration stamped my permission to stay date through February 21, 2010. :o

  11. I went for my 1st retirement extension at the CM Immigration office. I used the US Consulate letter of 65,000baht monthly income as proof. They asked a copy of the passport, visa, departure card, and the 90 entry stamp which I brought with me. The officer apparently didn't like that I had my "O" visa and entry stamp on separate pages so he had me make another copy that included both of them on the same page. I was a bit surprised by a couple of the questions he asked me, such as, what I did in the US, my job title, and how much I made. Except for the additional copy, everything went smooth.

    Vagabond

thanks for the report. Immigration didn't ask for any bank book copies?

  12. A lot of presumptions in your reply and little facts, but one fact from me if its of help to others, TG have me today rerouted from BKK to UTP and the Mrs will pick me up from the airport, so there are ways to get in it seems.

I am stuck in the Philippines looking to return to Bangkok ASAP.

Which airline, and from which airport did you fly in from?

  13. Thanks for the info, perhaps you can tell us the location Payap Uni as I am sure I am not the only one not knowing its location.

Chiang Mai, hosted by the The US Consulate General in Chiang Mai. Sounds like an interesting event.

US Embassy officials in Bangkok are more selective about inviting the general public, than they were 4 years ago.

  14. 4 years ago, the US Embassy hosted a very nice election result watch event at the Marriott in Bangkok. Open to everyone, it was a nice event with supporters from both parties kept in suspense until the Ohio results were announced.

This year, I have only heard of 2 similar events being held: An invitation-only (no, I didn't get one :o ) event hosted again by the US Embassy at the Hyatt, and a DemocratsAbroadThailand 'victory party' held at a Bangkok restaurant.

Does anyone have knowledge of any other venues hosting an election morning watch event?
