  1. Wow, I picked the wrong day to travel on the motorway from Ekamai to Pattaya yesterday.....80+ km of bumper to bumper cars about the 10 AM hour? Was it a special holiday or what? Took almost 4 hours by bus to get to North Road Bus Station....the worst traffic I've seen in the ten years I've been doing this trip, even when it was just a two lane cow path so many years ago....bah.gif

  2. So what the heck was going on today on the motorway from Bangkok to Pattaya??

Was bumper to bumper from near Ekamai to almost the out skirts of Pattaya....a whopping 80+ km stream of cars and trucks...took darn near 4 hours to get to North Pattaya Road. It was the worst I've seen in the last ten years I've been doing the deed....even worse than when it was only a two lane affair? Sucks the big one that is for sure.....w00t.gif Maybe it was a special holiday?? I'm clueless and pised of all at the same time....bah.gif

  3. Living in BKK can be twice as expensive as living in Pattaya....I've been there and done that.....100,000 per month and I'd live like a King.....IMHO....I survive on 60,000 in Pattaya which includes my health insurance and nightly trips to see my coin operated girlfriends on Soi LK Metro....lol..?

  4. Leaving as I have done for every one since 2003 except one when I stayed in. I have explained my reasons on many threads. Tired of being flamed so I won't go into it again.

Another smart one gets out of Dodge...my point of escape as I have for the past ten years will be Viet Nam. One can only take so much of all the pissheads and no brained killings themselves and others in the name of good fun??? Geez....what a sorry state of mind.....:-(

  6. Good Samaritan cabbie rewarded for returning 1.3 million baht to a Japanese

    3-10-2015-2-17-06-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A Good Samaritan taxi driver who returned five million yen or 1.3 million baht in cash stuffed in a baggage that a Japanese businessman left in his car was rewarded 54,000 baht for his good deed by the Japanese.

The cabbie, Mr Prathuan Muangrung, said he picked up the Japanese, Mr Watanabe Tetsiro, from Suvarnabhumi international airport to be driven to Silom area.

He said the Japanese then asked to stop at a money exchange office and came back with the Thai baht to pay him the taxi fare and the left for shopping without picking up his baggage.

He said he waited for about 15 minutes and the Japanese still did not show up. But at the time a passenger showed up for a ride to the national stadium which he agreed.

After sending the passenger to the national stadium, the cabbie said he immediately headed back to Suvarnabhumi international airport to report about a forgotten baggage to Mr Sakon Thavornkarn and Ms Jaiton Wirwangpol, two executives of a radio station, so they could make an announcement for the owner to reclaim the baggage.

Mr Prathuan admitted that he was shocked after finding so much money in the baggage but he didnt want to keep them because they did not belong to him.

Mr Watanabe who later reclaimed his baggage with the money said he felt grateful to the cabbie who returned the money to him. He said he carried the cash with him because he intended to use them for his dental care.

  7. All these negative comments, all from people who know nothing about this guy at all..

He is charged with an offence, that's a long way from being convicted of it. He's innocent until found guilty remember.

You don't usually get to be Pres of a motorcycle club without being an exceptional man.

Of course, this man and other biker gangs live by a code of values that is alien to 99% of Thai Visa posters.

Best advice, if you don't know what you are talking about or have nothing constructive to add... just keep quiet.

Yup, don't judge the book by it's cover....even if it's a horror story. I'm sure the young man is the envy of every mother in OZ.....and a few dads as well.....maybe? ?

  8. don,t want to make a mistake ? Don,t make the same mistake as 99.999 % of other foreigners make. (1) Spending the remainder of their life in a bar with total losers. (2) Dating and marrying a hooker. (3) Trying to copy the country they left. (4) Never learning to even count to five in Thai.

when I came to thaiand when I was 62 I intended to stay till I was 70. that happens next year and I will be leaving, not sure where I go but I will not return. I may add I like Thailand but my time is up

What exactly are your reasons Tom? I am contemplating coming to Thailand to move and I am 68. I would hate to make a mistake.

5555 ?. How is my Thai so far???

  9. Sleep disturbance is torture. I do not use that word lightly. I sympathise with you.

You need to tell the village headman. It is better if you can go as a group with some Thais.

It is not clear if this is 2 issues or one issue. eg 1. Loud music and 2. Noise from the temple or simply noisy music from the temple. If it is only one issue and that is from the temple, your chances of success are reduced. Failing that, try earplugs.

  10. I appled for a tax refund on my retirement "seed money" I have in my SCB Bank here in Pattaya.....just over 800,00 baht. The Thai govt took about 3,000 off the top for the interest I earned on that money last year. SCB filled out the forms for me to take to the Revenue Office in Jomtien and the kind folks at the Revenue Office filled in my Thai tax forms the first week of the New Year. So late last week I get a call from the RO folks....please come in with your passport and bank books on Monday morning at 8 AM. So I catch the baht bus from Central Pattaya and arrive at 8 AM. Of course no one shows up until 9 AM..duh! The lady takes my paperwork and has me fill out a form asking where my pension comes from (USA), how much I receive, what my living expenses are, how much rent I pay, etc., etc. After all that she asks me for copies of my pension pay slips and copies of my tax returns??? She said that they want to make sure i pay taxes on my pension in the USA??? Very strange indeed? Of course I did not bring any copies of my tax returns or pension pay slips, so had to go back home and come back later in the day to the RO. After she showed the pension slips to her boss, she said a refund check would be mailed to me in one month.....maybe???

Not sure who is checking up on whom...and if the Thai govt. is doing backgorund checks to see if I deserve a spot in the retirement line? Pain in the arse if you ask me and just one more reason not to feel like the welcome mat is out for the old folks......sad really.......sad.png
