  1. Price was Bt300,

    changed to Bt250

Therefore each of the men have to cough up 83.333333 (250 diveded by 3)

Now, little Boonlert, gave each man back Bt10

Now the men have each paid 93.3333333

    Three times 93.3333333333 = 280

    plus Boonlerts 20 in his sky-rocket = 300

As expected there is no Bt10 missing.

    HA!

  2. 270 Baht [paid] + 30 Baht [returned change] = 300 Baht.

But what I want to know is what kind of dodgy hotel allows 3 farangs to share a room and only charge 300 Baht for it and then, without any prompting, give a 50 Baht discount.

Something fishy going on here on a number of levels.

    Bt270 + Bt20 = Bt290 - so where is the missing Bt10?

Instead of giving each of the men Bt10, he should have given each man (50 divided by 3) Bt16.666666 (recurring).

    3 x 6.66666 (recurring) = the Bt20 the bellboy pocketed.

However, still not sure if that answers "Where is the missing Bt10?"

    My head is spinning.

  3. Ah.... Scam #457 - Drive motorbike into Farangs open car door

Page 78 of the "Complete guide to Scamming in the Land Of Scams" (for Dummies) (2nd Edition)

My point is, there is so much <deleted> going on its becoming hard to tell whats for real anymore!

    Paranoia rules ok!

  4. Well if the basis of the marriage/relationship is the money the Farang hands over I'd not hold out much hope of the old guy when he needs his ass cleaning because old age robs him of the ability to look after himself.

Could be a business opening there! Any takers?

  5. Most people think that photojounalist Tim Page was the model for the character that Dennis Hopper played in Apocalypse Now. Are you talking about another "crazy guy"?

I never heard of Tony P. in Chaing Mai and I was around back then.

sorry man, but it was Marlon Brando who played the infamous crazy colonel part in Apocalypse Now, not Dennis Hopper.

Brando played crazy Col. Kurtz. Dennis Hopper played the crazy photographer.

But this poster is talking about the character Dennis Hopper played. And Tim Page certainly fits the model!

Maybe the poster found Hopper's character to be more crazy than Brando's.

  6. Basically yes to all three question. But you will need a certificate of residence from Immigration for license. If they will issue that then you might get a Thai driving license, depends on their mood.

So, what conditions should be met to qualify for a certificate of residence?

I have a home, which I reside in when visiting LOS, but I always enter as 30 day tourist.

I too would like to obtain (legally) Thai driving license, if only to cut-down on the amount of tea-money to the BIBs.

  7. Where's the bloke with "the well trained muscles" gone?

    He was hilarious......

Perhaps he has gone over into Camboge to marvel at the ancient Khmer art. (I particularly like the many fine examples depicting the ancient art of kick-boxing, which incidentally pre-dates Siam by hundreds of years). Then again perhaps not.

  8. Ferrets and Toys

    Remember:

A lot of ferret owners discard cleaning their ferrets' toys. But think about all the gross things those toys have been through. Maybe you don't even want to! Now you know why you should clean them. Most stuffed animal toys can be thrown in the washer just like their bedding. The plastic toys should be dumped into a bucket of hot water. This will make it easier to scrub the slime off of them. After they are done soaking (about 10 minutes) take them out and run them under water. Scrub them with a towel or other cleaning scrubber.

    (See - its all true)

  9. First picture looks like the lead you would use to connect your UPS to a power strip, such as what you may find inside server cabinets. You are probably connecting UPS to mains, so no requirement for this optional lead.

Second picture, not clear, need to see close up of the ends. Could it be a data cable for connecting to serial port for UPS monitoring software. Its not clear.

  10. When back in the UK and seeking NHS treatment, if after trying every avenue to get free treatment does not work, here's what to do;

Visit the nearest NHS hospital or another of your choice, walk around the wards until you spot a nice comfortable looking bed. Preferably unoccupied, with clear view of the TV. Try it for comfortness rating if need be. Better still make a few reccies. Sus out the other patients are to your approval. On completeion of your detailed survey, cancel your temporary rented accomodation in town, don your best P.J.s and commence occupation of your highly studiously selected NHS scratcher!

Tell the staff you aint moving until you get your treatment. When/if the police come and detain you, you will now find you are legally entitled to free NHS treatment.

  11. In general, you are correct....

Thai banks don't seem to be charging the 150 baht ATM fee for counter withdrawals.

    However, you should make sure:

a: you're using a debit card, and not a credit card, to avoid heavy cash advance and interest charges.

b: that your home bank doesn't charge any separate fee for counter withdrawals. Some such as Chase and Wells Fargo do.

c: to be aware of what kind of exchange rate the Thai bank you choose is offering, and make sure they're not charging an off-market rate.

In the alternative, you also could use any AEON ATM and not pay any 150 baht ATM fee either.

After reading most of this head my thread is spinning!

    :)

So am I correct in saying - if you queue up inside the bank and use your card over the counter there is no charge?

Thanks, jfchandler, a perfect summary, exactly the data i was trying to extricate.
