  1. Good Work T, you`re starting to get down and dirty with that upgrade.............

As for the swinging arm bolt rusting/sticking onto the sleeve,,This is not an isolated issue, i did a bearing change on swinging arm on my OLD kawasaki zr750 And had the exact same issues as you, even the 750 has a grease nipple on the underside of the arm but is of no use as it only feeds grease to the bearings along the outer side of the sleeve...the inner sleeve and bolt get nothing A BIG DESIGN Fault...and gues what the old zr750 is a 2002 and the needle bearings and roller bearings and end seals are the exact same parts as on the 650r/er6 So much for them claiming they were a new design from the ground up, many many parts are common between the kwakers 600cc up....

If you go to rider forums you`ll see my comments under "removing that big bolt" on the zr750 section....i had to take the frame down to the local exhaust shop and use the OA set to heat that baby out..

So therefore any riders out there with the 650r/er6n or similar, i urge you to get that bolt out now and grease it up, regularly.....if you are keeping your ride for long..

Lets us know how she handles T....HD

  2. Just some notes / updates

    - Went on a 4 day trip with some Thai friends, had a blast, Versys performed spectacularly. In the rain, at night, in the twisties, on dirt, on occasional bad roads, and through the odd random HUGE pothole - the Versys made it all a breeze.

    - It seems it's now properly broken in at some 2,800 kms, fuel economy ranges from 18.5 km / l to 16 km / l, depending on riding style and circumstances. Fine with me!

    - Pulled my first proper wheelie today - scary as fuc_k. I always lift the wheel off the ground a little bit on energetic starts. But this morning I gave it a full twist and the front wheel went up 45 degrees. Woo hoo. As has been mentioned, it's actually very easy on this bike.

Is the gear ratio different to the ER6N/650R ? and offhand do you know how many teeth are on the front and back sprockets, oh and is it on a 520 chain..thxs

Sprockets and chain are same, but the transmission on the Versys KLE650 is geared quite a bit lower than the E6n/Ninja 650R EX650.

I'm having a hard time finding the actual gear ratios online...

    Ride On!

    Tony

    Cheers T,

just wondered as the 650r isn`t that easy to pop up really...BTW, your gixer looks good with the new facelift, kudos, oh and off topic slightly, i see RB has way discounted that 09 gsxr they have in stock...i presume they got a call from suzuki HQ after their official big bike entry into thailand...does that one have full power and the mode switch, K9 or K10???

  4. Hi Husky, I don't know what coil also, but I think it is what you have mentioned, stator coil. I am going to Bkk to get it checked, I will take note of it. If it is the coil problem, do you have any idea how much to get it recoil? Are there any competent shops here in Pattaya to do the job?

Sorry i`m in the boonies, no idea..

more tech links and fault finding..

follow these links for more detailed issues...cheers

  5. Not sure what you mean by the coil, i presume you mean the stator?

Taken from the fazer 1000 2001 workshop manual....

    Minimum open-circuit voltage of battery

    12.8 V or more at 20 deg C

    Charging voltage across battery

    14 V at 5,000 r/min

    Stator coil

    Stator coil resistance

0.27-0.33 ohms at 20 deg C measured white to white across all three..

Also i would add, disconnect the stator plug and start the bike and measure across all three white leads on the stator end of the plug WITH YOUR METER ON AC VOLTS not dc volts. i dont know what the value in ac volts is for the fazer but they should all be the same....

    good luck

  6. Can anyone confirm the latetest cost of the Bridgestone Battlax BT021's from kawasaki and i would like to know if they will supply a 170 for the rear instead of the 160?

Too late to phone them today, just picked up a nail on my rear, but no shame to it really...done nearly 14000 miles on it...yep miles not km`s.....

Sorry, had to do a little digging but was able to find the contact info for another Bridgestone dealer who should be able to help you out with a 170 rear:

    Pure Motor Sport

    Khun Pure (Speaks English)

    Tel: 02 2223789 Mob: 081 8216663

Thanks T, got a 170 rear coming from him tomorrow (6500 bht), but he didn`t have the bt021 but it`s the new bt023 (rave reviews)

but he can stuff the front as he is 1000bht more than kawaski for that...cheers

  7. Many Harley Davidson riders remind me of the below commercial.

Many of these riders seem to be in 'drag' & as such, they are nothing less than 'drag queens' of a motorcycling nature.

As usual, it takes but a few to spoil the fun for the majority.

I will also admit that I've never liked Harleys, since their reliability seems to be tainted (historically).

Ignore them & they will be worthless...even though the bikes are already worthless.

A Great post by someone who obviously has NO CLUE about Harleys nor the people that ride them  but it made him feel better so thats ok :D

Sorry, i agree with him, i bet a high majority of these guys only got themselfs harleys when they came here.....

It`s all a bit (village people) if you ask me..something not right about having your feet in front of your knees..not that you would ask me.......

now that made me laugh loudly lol

    thankyou sir

  9. Got a phone call to pop into my dealer, korat, with my ninja 650r...they want to change the right hand foot rest? he called it a recall.....any idea`s?

Oh, and while lubing my chain today i noticed play in my rear wheel, checked the spindle was tight and ok...sh1t, 12,000 miles and the rear bearing goosed...well pissed i might add...anyone had this..?

    HD

p.s any links and costs for the REAR SETS in gold colour here in LOS..thanks

  10. Hiya HD!

Well, I assume the low coverage is why the premium is so cheap... You can certainly buy more coverage from a different company. A few companies I can think of that can offer you more coverage (at higher cost) include NSI, ThaiSri and MuangThai.

The ThaiVisa insurance quote request form isn't working for you? http://insurance.thaivisa.com/quote-form/

AAInsure (who is the ThaiVisa insurance broker) can also be contacted by fax: 038 374 251 or Skype: aainsure

Their email address is: [email protected]

Thanks T, i`ll check them out tomorrow, i dont mind paying a bit more, as the mods on the bike as you know, add up to a reasonable sum alone..HD

  11. Been a while since i`ve be on the board,

but i could do with your opinions and knowledge on 1st class insurance cover for my ninja 650r, i`m due for renewal on the 12th, and just received my renewal quote from FALCON INSURANCE...with 20% NCD....not bad really at 6000baht...BUT, the cover is only for 160,000baht/less 5000baht excess....the bike is only 1 year old, and as you know 257,000baht list price new, YES the cover is a whopping 100,000baht short of list after one year.

The first cover was for 180,000baht....does this need to drop 20,000baht every year..?

I know the bike will depriciate but NOT 100,00baht in 1 year.....

    Anyone getting better cover....regards..HD

BTW thaivisa link to big bike quotes ain`t working? for me when i click it..
