  1. I think there is no excuse to stall elections beyond November. Abhisit looking like a flip flopper now. This is a divisive move.

The flip floppers were the people on stage in red t-shirts who kept adding new demands when their conditions were met. Bad behaviour should be punished, not rewarded.

I know this is slightly off topic.....but i was in the company of the g/f sister last night, who lives and works in samut prakan(she is thai), this topic came up for various reasons, but one thing she did say was that Seh Daeng was shot by a farrang sniper paid for by the goverment to silence Seh Daeng.....very seriously she confirmed that this was common knowledge (rumour?) amongst thais in bangkok and she is even a P.A.D suporter...anyone else heard that?

  2. I think the moral or the story is don't buy A house in thailand,ya have to put it in A thai's name. The lease sounds like A joke.Myself I think renting is the only way for A farang in thailand to go.

And if you stay hre 10 years or more paying approx 9,000 a month rent, thats more than a million wasted....buying makes sense if you keep it pactical.

Only if the house is free to start with......duh

How do you plan in getting your investment back...above posts, worth a look!

    Lawyer`s costs!

    Travel costs!

    Death costs!

    Rent and Runnnnnnnnn

  3. I treated myself to a Garnim (from the guy in Pattaya) for Christmas... I have used it around our little area (Kalasin) and considered it mostly a "Big Boy Toy"....

Took my first long trip last week when I drove from Kalasin to Pattaya, and all I can say is "Thank You Santa".... Worked Great, made the trip very easy, even when I did not listen to it and took a couple of wrong turns, it / she got me right back on track and without calling me an "Idiot" or giving me "That Look" that the Thai wife always uses...

    Pianoman

I would be wary about buying Garmin units from a private seller in Pattaya, if you are expecting "new" as he advertises.

    http://classifieds.thaivisa.com/automotive...-new-47458.html

I recently installed some updated maps on such a unit, which my friend had bought as "imported new from UK".

While I was looking around the files on the unit, a discovered a .csv file which had recorded the unit as travelling about 8,000km around Europe over a period of 3 or 4 weeks before it ever arrived in Thailand.

    Caveat emptor.

Agree, as you can buy them on ebay....in the form of GRADE A, they are returns sent back to garmin and then new cables and manuals packaged with them, kind of like sony used to do Sony Grade A etc....but are still backed by the one year warranty...

As for maps, well the are out there on the net....if you look for free

  4. Don`t rent under your circumstances, you will not be covered.....

Don`t even take a motorbike taxi, as your holiday insurance will run away from you in both cases......not worth it.

Even when you live here and have insurance in your name it can get very interesting ..........sorry but true

  5. Thailand learned their painful lesson during the 'asian currency crisis', now they have learnt to hedge the baht against

speculative measures which in turn is stable.

But in my guess, I think they will need to re-assess their rates to be

competitive for exports and competing against neighboring countries.

So what after they reassess do you see as a realistic exchange rate to the usd/gbp ?

And what you suggest, it`s asian economies that are their main intrest, and the usd/gbp is only going to gain against the baht if they inturn appreciate...your thoughts please....

  6. Disaffected, uneducated, unemployable, lazy 'Baan Nork', oiled up on Lao Khao, and angry because the pipeline of handouts has dried up decide to burn their own homeland.

They would have been better off all along, following the Sufficiency Economy model, adopting some modern farming techniques, and investing those handouts in that, instead of spending the money on new pickups and motorcycles they can't pay for, and basically complaining all the time about their lot in life and blaming the invisible "elite".

Ironically, Abhisit has recently helped them all greatly, with farmer debt relief, by instituting free education and moving towards a social welfare society which he has publically advocated on numerous occasions.

Unfortunately, all of that takes time and effort, and therefore doesn't feed into the impatient Baan Nork's sense of entitlement, and need for instant gratification via handouts, without work.

During his 5 years in power, Thaksin created a monster, by giving these country folk easy money. The country is now reaping the "reward" for his largesse funded by tax-payers' money (largely Bangkok tax-payers, ironically).

If there is such a thing as karma, one hopes that Thaksin gets his just desserts for causing all of this.

Another good post - seems the forum is getting thinking members at last LOL :)

agree with most, appart from the "bold highlights", you tried puting a kid into school in baan nork, it aint free yet...but good post

  7. I don't know but having prior knowledge to a terrorist attack and not telling the police will land you in trouble in a lot of country's

Jesus, some of you are thick. The reds said they would burn Central World (and Paragon) a week ago. It was made public. EVERYONE (but some of you guys) knew about it.

Just a sad loser who's never achieved anything. A chance for a bit of fame by joining someone elses troubles.

shouting and throwing a stick .... anyone can do that.

    1) You don't know what he's done in his life. Maybe nothing. Maybe more than all of us combined. Maybe he is a mercenary who loves to fight/kill. Maybe he is just sick and tired of all the wanke_rs, like some posting here, and wants to give you all a bad name. WHO KNOWS? Maybe he has a reason to fight? Maybe he was hired to fight? WHAT DO ANY OF US KNOW?

    2) I'd bet you didn't even have the balls to go into a red shirt camp, let alone when there were snipers on the roof tops shooting at them. Right or wrong?

What would he feel like if in The Uk a Thai mob or individual, made a threat on camera to loot and burn down one of his state treasures (say his holy grail...the queen vic...) and shortly after it burned to the ground, i think even he would follow up on that...the tw...t :)

I say i hope he gets some attention ......wink wink :D

  8. No issues on CAT, i`m on the 4meg package, currently using my vpn thru to uk, and watching unbroken live bbc, itv, al jezeera etc on vpn, and when on thai ip address everthing fine too...?

Torrents on vuse, maxing out too (seed dependant ofcourse), oh and on Mirc to a usa server 24/7....maybe i`m just lucky. :)

  9. Thaksin = Thief number one

    Abhisit = Liar number one

They are both for censorship, controlling the media one way or the other and are foreign educated criminals. Thailand needs to break free from this 2 party - same B$ show. And so should all countries which face this democrats vs. republicans paradigm, which is but a mere smokescreen and the football game for the masses. It's the elites with the money which control both factions and they don't care for the demands and needs of the 'people'. And yes, the U.N. would be by far the biggest trap for Thailand right now; just remember how 'helpful' they have been in Kosovo and Rwanda, standing by and letting the killings happen.

How about some real alternative , green shirts? People need to stop fooling themselves and divide the country listening to either the yellow greedy royalists or the openly neo-con red faction. None of them will help the Thai's which I dearly love.

    :)

Couldn`t agree more, forward thinking liberal attitude is req`d.......just dont use the uk as a role model....or maybe do, and watch the baht plumet..

  10. I dont need it , but a sweet looking bike.....maybe help if you state price ideas, and book status.. 2 pics the same bike?

Righthand pic has lower fairing(rear) and exhast wrap, no rear pegs, black seat.............lefthand pic hasn`t..?

Bit like spot the difference..LOL...but nice ride

  11. Does it have to be surin, yep 13000 baht to much for sinthorn, it`s a dump, my personal thoughts...

There are houses outside surin at better prices but maybe you need the muang for the kids schooling etc. but yes there is not much in surin itself...house next to me for rent 6/7000 baht, but 25 kilo`s out of surin and only one bedroom..good luck
