  1. What i think i will do , is, go to jomtien (easier than bkk just now) get my proof of income, (korat want 2 copies, one for the conversion and one for the extension based on retirement, will the embassy charge me twice?)

And get a 30 day extension on my tourist visa at the pattaya immigration on or before the 30th and that will give me more time to do the coversion back and korat later(korat do the conversion)...HD

  2. Can you convert a 60 day tourist visa from lao into a non O for the purpose of retirement extension in jomtien, my local office is korat( but i presume as it`s a tourist visa it shouldn`t matter where i do it ??), i`m brittish and over 50...

The only thing is that the 60 days run out on the 4th of may, and will they insist that 21 days remain on the visa..

I just dont want to pay twice i.e get the 30 day extension and then pay again to convert to a non O..and if they would could i get the one year extension based on retirement there also(i meet the requirements) and have a yellow book..regards

  3. I would like this cleared up also, i do my proof of residency at korat now as the local immigration at kap chong closed(it was free there).

Now the same people who moved to Korat are charging 500bht for the said proof letter, when i questioned this they said that they do not have to issue this letter as this is embassy work and informed me that if the 500baht is a problem they would not issue it and i could go else where..the attitude of the new korat office is terrible, trying to keep change from expats, aggressive, self rightious..etc.

I also asked for the fee table for such services, and was told there wasn`t one, they also said that it would take 2 days, at which point i insisted that after calling them first and traveling 2+ hours that this wasn`t on, they gave me the paper there and then....500baht

AND now to make matters worse, the 90 day report which can be done at chong chom in a portacabin(same staff from korat, on rotation) are now wanting 300baht for every check in..bloody chancers..

On the proof of residence issue, i thougt after the recent reforms, you could only obtain this from your appointed immigration office and not cross counties...and it was free before...???

Are the out of order charging 300baht for 90 day reports...at chong chom

Oh, by the way the proof of reisdency letter this time was for obtaining a Yellow book on my gf house...so hopefully no more 500bht`s.....at korat

On the 90day report, it means a 2+hr drive each way to korat(free or not there i`m not sure) or 300baht at chong chom pirates office OR you guessed it, do it by post with a 10baht self addressed envelope.........your thoughts please

  4. Bikerbob. i'm sorry i blew up. i've been stuck in the UK waiting for a flight home and you were an easy target. sorry. I do not know any one who has bought a bike from k speed so cannot answer.

Haha now i understand. Don't worry about it. You are right i could call and ask but i have done that in the past ( Not the same shop) and they will promise you anything and everything if you tell them that you are interested in one of their bikes. I am not going to tell the name of the shop but i ended up waiting 11 months for the book and the plate so that is why i would like to heat from some one who has actually bought a bike from K-speed or know some body who has.

PS. Sorry about the angry face :)

Nice to see, kiss and make up, not to much of that here on TV..kudos....anyway somebody must know the answear to this..Q

  5. So sad indeed, may they all RIP...And heart felt sympathay to those left behind...

Possible that chemicals or other toxins being used or had been used in the ground leeching into the hole water, causing a gas off....hard to say without an O2 test..and other tests.

At the depth and diameter that has been reported, this is what is classed as a vessel entry, you need an airmover in there and BA sets worn to be safe, and not to mention the risk of collapse of the walls.....The boy and the other adult may have been dead even before the swedish man went in....so sad...God Bless him for trying tho..RIP

  6. Just a question, are the bikes geniune reg`d.....and not iffy books, and who else sells genuine big bikes in BBK and Pattaya....looking for a friend who wants a newish big bike, and not a 6n or 650r...thanks

  7. I think it is admirable what individuals are doing here on thai visa and beyond....

But today (Friday) will be, i`m sure a very difficult day for Andrews family, wife and friends....

The service is being held at the main temple next to prasat police staion at 1 pm, and the cremation localy there after...Please show your respect sensitively........ RIP

Please stop the silly speculation on what happened, when you know the story in the fullness of time you may just think how these unfounded theories affect those concerned, when the case is fully investigated properly you will understand it`s sensitive nature....

  8. Source, news.ninemsn.com.au

An Australian tourist who died after being attacked in Thailand will be cremated there on Friday in a traditional Buddhist ceremony, farewelled by his pregnant Thai partner and Adelaide family.

Andrew Oake, 28, from Adelaide, had been holidaying in Prasat, near Surin in northeastern Thailand, for two months with Som, who is six months pregnant.

On March 17 the pair were travelling between villages when they were set upon by two men on motorbikes.

Som ran for help while Mr Oake was slashed in the arms and head with a machete in what might have been a failed robbery. The assailants, two men and a woman, used homemade weapons in the attack.

On Thursday Thai police were still to make an arrest despite having recovered national identity cards and a motorbike. Police sources said the three were known thugs who worked in the area.

Mr Oake's father, Roy McDonald, told AAP his son was first sent to a local hospital, but the tendons in his arm were severed, and he was sent to Bangkok for surgery.

Mr McDonald said there was speculation his son could lose his arm, but he was urged to leave hospital by his travel insurance company.

He returned to Prasat, nine hours away, but later needed another operation in Bangkok and treatment for an infection that had developed in his arm.

At that point, Mr McDonald said the insurance company ordered his son to return to Australia for treatment or it would end his policy.

Mr McDonald blames the insurance company's insistence - that his son return to Australia - for his death.

"Basically he was killed on their advice," he said.

"He was in no condition to fly. He couldn't even stand up. But the advice from the insurance company was that he was medically fit to fly and threatened to cancel his policy," he said.

Mr McDonald, who arrived in Thailand with Mr Oake's brother and mother this week, said he hoped his son's insurance would provide for Som and the baby.

"I told them he was in no condition to travel anywhere," he said.

"He was fatigued, he was in pain, he wouldn't make it."

Just two hours out from the town of Prasat Mr Oake complained of headaches.

He later lost consciousness and was taken to hospital to be later pronounced dead at 8.20pm last Sunday, Thai police sources told AAP.

Mr Oake and Som were married last year by local monks.

Their friend Travis Senne, 40, an American from New Orleans now living in Thailand, said the attack had been brutal.

"They were brutal swords," he said, of the crude weapons used.

"I was shocked at the weaponry. They were a group of thugs, he was a random victim," he told AAP.

"Andrew was only 28 and was just planning his life, just starting his life," he said.

"Andrew was a very upstanding, honest person, a very responsible family man.

"He had a plan, a life plan, but it got cut short," Mr Senne said.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman said staff had been in contact with the family and would provide all necessary consular assistance.

"The cause of death is a matter for Thai authorities to determine," she said.

Mr Oake will be cremated in Prasat.

    RIP

  9. Well they are fitted, and what can i say a huge improvement, i also fitted a switch on the low beams..I can have just the markers and the angel eyes for daytime use, saving the life time hours on the Hid`s, BUT i left the hight beams as was so i can still flash oncoming suicide pilots with the passing/flash switch (and yes they are instant)..the 3 pics show them off, markers/angels and also low beam hid......i can post more daytime pics if needed... oh and i also hard wire my zumo lead in with an inline waterproof socket and plug, and i fitted 2 bleepers for my indicators, to get the attention of the foot soldiers and helmetless locals, as a safety improvement..regards HD

looks great HD. what was your total cost for the projectors/HID kit.

Here is the kit i bought, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

H7 is req`d for ours (650r), the total cost was $145 + $15 postage, and $25 for the optional OEM look handlebar switch from easternbeaver.com, but i added the cost of a spare headlight assembly 3070bhat incase i f.....ed it up, but it`s really not an issue taking the classes off and on, so up to you..

I looked at all the projectorless HID kits, but i didn`t want to risk them as their dispensing of heat could be an issue in the standard headlight casing, most of the heat on mine is contained in the HID projectors so NO heat issues, and you get 4 beams on on hi beam and 2 on low beam + the choice of the coloured angels which you don`t get with the standard HID kits, and i state again no more single light for low beam, and the improvement is HUGE....HD

  10. Hello,

Would you have a pic of the Zumo lead in, and did you purchase in Bangkok.

... oh and i also hard wire my zumo lead in with an inline waterproof socket and plug

Any info provided would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

Have a look here , this guy is in japan but posts to thailand. http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Pr...ower_cords.html

I have the zumo with the ram mount and cradle , and i got the standard power lead with an inline fuse with it when i bought it, all i did was wire in the power lead to the battery feed it up under the usual, tank etc and cut it with about 10 inches left at the cradle end, wired in the waterproof inline socket/plug from this guy and now i can remove the cradle and zumo at the same time as i was worried about my cradle going missing while left unattended, he has the zumo cables on his site to fit the cradle. and inline fuse holders and waterproof conectors..have a look, i will post a pic of my set up soon, songran and all that...HD

  12. Check this store in BKK:http://gadgetrend.com/

Maybe not the cheapest solution, but they have they best maps according to reliable source.

    Thank you very much mate!

It`s on the internet free if you look....latest version too...but i cant post a link here...forum rules

  13. Why don't you try posting in the Ninja 650R thread? May be more subscribers to that thread than to motorbike general forum. Plus it would be nice to keep everything in the same place.

I thought about doing that, but maybe it would be lost as so many youtube video`s in there... :):D :D :D

Maybe the mods can move it for me....

  14. bi-xenon has one major disadvantage. when switching from low beam to high beam, it takes seconds before high beam ignites/lights up. most cars with bi-xenon also have halogen high beams to cover this gap of darkness.

55 watt xenon low beam are available with halogen high beam, all in one unit.

heat from 55 watt xenon is identical to heat from 55/60 watt halogen in projector. Ballast also provides some heat. ballast is usually splash proof, but not waterproof

I dont like it too blue and sure not yellow, so I prefere approx 4500-4800 Kalvin

looking forward to see Ninja xenon. HD, let us know how it works

Got my spare front headlight yesterday at Korat 3070bhat, not bad really...tonight i went to the pub of all places, to borrow/use their pizza oven, nice and big and has an asbestos type base in it so no direct contact to the metal in the oven, preheated it to 210 degrees F and popped the light assembly in for 9 minutes, checked it and then a further 3 minutes to really soften the glue/goaw..with the help of my teelak, split the glasses off the unit, fitted the BI-Xenon Projectors offered up the glasses when done and back in the oven for 9 minutes to soften the glue and then pushed the glasses back on....

not really a hard job at all....

i`ve left the original normal reflectors as they were and not painted/sprayed them black like i`ve seen done...will post a pic later.....next step, waiting for my oem look handlebar switch and posi-taps/locks to arrive from japan, as i want to be able to switch the hi and lows off and only have the blue halo rings on at times powered from the running lights,

and while i`m at it i`ve got a power lead to wire in for my garmin zumo, which i`m waiting for a waterproof inline power plug so i can take the zumu AND the base off the bike while not attended, i`m sick of having to charge the batteries...... :D

For those interested, these bi xenon projectors come with the new digital ballasts, which are instant AND the low beam remains on when the Hi beam is applied, so no issues with switching time AND you get the benifit of both hi/low on both sides when on high beam...HD :D :D

I went with the 6000k, not overly blue but with a hint and not yellow which i hate..... :)

  15. Hi,

did you do it yourself? I am going to ask Kawasaki Phuket if they have the gauge...

Supposed to be done every 12,000 kms...

Did it today, and the right hand throttle was below the left hand throttle vac by a good bit, waited untill the bike was fully warmed up and it equalised a little bit but not enough ....therefore i turned the righthand sync screw and got it spot on, the hardest part is finding the screws at the rear of the bodies...a short test run was all i got so i dont really know the end result untill i give it a good run, but it seems smoother....get them to check yours if the know how..i spoke to my service centre yesterday in Korat and they didn`t have a clue...but on the bright side i saw a black 650r heading out for khon kean on delivery....good luck to who bought it if you are watching....looked sweet :):D :D

  16. Will be looking to replace my chain soon,

Any input on what is classed as a good, low maintenance and long lasting chain option.....your thoughts please, and where to get here....thanks

Oh, and my HID`s have arrived, but i`m waiting for my spare headlight assembly to arrive from BKK, and a puka handlebar lightswitch to arrive from japan...before fitting... :)

  17. Found this on the kawaforums posted by jungle jon..kudos for sharing jon

  18. yepp, one low beam is right side, one high beam is left side. on high beam, both are lit. right side projector is for high beam only, so rewiring doesnt change high beam pattern right side. Member Huskydog is trying something out to get dual low and high. In daytime I ride with both lights lit

improving voltage to light bulbs by directsupply from battery controlled by realys is something I do on every new car I get if they dont come with HID/xenon. Usually increases from 12,7 to 14,2 volt, which is approx 35% brighter lights. However the Ninjas projectors are very small, and such an increase in power produces much heat. I would rather go for 35w xenon/HID to get brighter lights, or 55w to get much brighter lights with same heat as halogen 55w as is standard.

Yep i did exactly as you katabeachbum, when i got my kawasaki 750 when i first arrived here, i got a purpose well made quality relay kit from a chap in japan, http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/products.html his gear is not the cheapest but great service and quality, it suited my 750 as it has a single front light...i`ll be getting one of his handlebar switches to control my HID kit when i get it fitted..HD

Just an update on hid`s i`ve gone with the 35w xenon h7 kit, as i know the lights will be brighter than stock with these anyway(projectors), and like you, slightly concerned about the heat issues with 55w xenons (damage to the assembly in the long run is a concern) AND not forgetting why i wanted to change them was purely for 2 lit lights on low beam..HD

  19. Just the whole assembly, eg black full casing with the glasses on the front as they are bonded on anyway, i dont need any bolts, bulbs, rubbers or cables etc. just the casing as i want to fit my projectors inside and if i f...ck up i will have a spare to go back to stock..

    Cheers,

    how where the mirrors?

    HD

UPDATE I`ve just phoned rama 9 , and they quoted 3070 bhat , i think i explained it out ok to them, eg if i had a stone break the glass etc, and they are in stock......

  20. Good idea Tony,

i wonder what the wind noise will be like as they look close to the screen, drumming or buffiting (spelling) noise?

Are they exspense, and can you see enough backwards.

I often wondered if the handle bars would have cross fitted from the 250 to the 650 but probably not..

P.s you didn`t happen to ask the cost of the front light when you picked those up by any chance? i`ll maybe phone rama 9 today and ask...i hope the mirrors work out ok..HD :)

  21. Well mine are on there way, i`ve gone for the projector type, 55w-blue angels-6000k...bi xenons,

The main reason is i will be able to have both lights lit on low beam and both on high beam, i HATE the single low on the 650r and as i said before i want to contain most of the heat behind the projetor glass..and the bi xenons low beam stays on when you switch to hi beam so no worry of a time delay plus they are slim digital ballasts anyway....
