  1. Several months ago in Kamala there were guys that would rake the rubbish on the beach into nice neat piles. After that they went back and buried the rubbish in the sand. Happily, I have not seen them doing that recently. But still the only bins I can think of are in the parking lot at the police station where the venders are working. A bit of a walk depending on where you are on the beach.

  2. Sorry I forgot, in Phuket I was told 2 months so going to sort out my paperwork to do the renewal early, I just complicated things as lost my car licence part so have to go police station now as only have scooter licence.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like I can renew before I travel.

Sorry you lost your car license. That's a good argument for issuing two separate licenses though.

  3. I have called TOT and 3B several times to ask if I can have fiber at my house in Kamala. They always say they'll check into it and let me know but they never call back. 3B's promotion ends the end of Nov. Maybe they will call me back in Dec. I think I will pay my TOT ADSL bill in Patong this week and try asking them there. The ladies at the TOT both in Kamala Big C don't speak English so they are only good for taking my money.

  4. I have called 3BB twice to find out if they can provide fiber service to my house in Kamala, the last time was about 3 weeks ago. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me with an answer. On a side note I'm still waiting for my current provider TOT to get back to me with an answer about providing fiber service as well. And I have called them 4 times in the last 3 months.

The promotion is now till Nov. 30, 2014

  5. I will be in town again on tuesday will check then for current rules thanks

I would be grateful if you could post what you find out.

I'm flying out on Feb. 1 and my 5 year licenses are going to expire at the end of Feb. I would like to be able to renew them before I leave so I can rent a car at the airport when I return in April.

And why can't they put car and motorcycle on the same license?

  6. Heard the rumour too with the 12th of November date explicitly mentioned. Moreover I was told that in Patong there will be strict new regulations that allow at certain appointed spots a maximum of two rows of sun beds. Let's see. Especially the elderly will welcome this move as in theory they can lie on the sand but it will be impossible for them to get up again.

The 'elderly' should not be allowed on the beach. They're wrinkly, saggy and unpleasant to look at in bathing suits. That goes for pot bellied men in thongs together with flabby females spilling over their bikinis.

And what's up with so many of the old birds going topless? ohmy.png Yes, please keep the chairs off the beach. Its worth it even if it stops just one of the old birds from coming and baring her wares.

  7. The form here is different from the ones in the template section in the Visa forum?

    Yup they are different.

    From Immigration website:

    tm30.pdf

Look at the form given to hkt83100. The date on the top is 2522. That form is 35 years old! I think Phuket Immigration are doing their best to confuse us.

  8. Yes, I heard there was going to be a meeting on the 12th to discuss allowing businesses back on the beach. My Thai friend told me. He and his partner lost their bar/restaurant on Kamala Beach in the cleanup. Understandably he is very hopeful that they can return to business.

Oh well, another Thai crackdown that fades to a memory.

Already lots of venders on the beach, 2 surfboard rental stands and the jetskis are still parking on the beach and I freaking hate the jetskis bah.gif.

  9. I have Logitech a H800 headset. It took me awhile to figure this out and at first I was going to return them cause I could not connect to my Win 7 laptop.

Try this, power up the headset and turn on your computer's bluetooth. Then right click on the bluetooth icon in your taskbar select Show Bluetooth Devices. If your computer has previously connected to your headset it should be listed there (If not you will have to add your device and I'll get to that later). If your device is listed left click on it. You should be presented with the option to Listen To Music (stereo is good for movies, gaming or you guessed it...music, but the mic does not work at least on my headset) or if your headset has a microphone it will also have the option to Forward VoIP Calls to Handsfree (mono but the mic works). Once connected you will see a green check-mark next to your selection.

Now if after you click on Show Bluetooth Devices and you don't see your headset listed, close that window and turn off your headset. Check your headsets documentation/manual for instructions on how to make it discoverable. After you have enabled discovery right click the bluetooth icon and then click add device. If the headset is successfully discovered and added you may need to go back to Show Bluetooth Devices and select music or handsfree.

    Hope that helps you.

By the way, I use the Windows driver and not the one that came with the headset. It was crap! Maybe try uninstalling the driver and trying without it.

  10. Go to www.tvaddons.com download xbmc for whatever system your using like android or windows. Then from the same site download fusion ( they have instructions) then to set up your system with movies and tv shows use the hub wizard also on the same site. Also after you have done that you can use the addon manager to add the MX repisitory for live thai tv.

To set up live tv from around the world on xbmc follow the instructions in this vid https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dddkIicYOLk . It only about 350 stations but it should be enough. There are other lists out there that have 1000's but I think this is the easiest set up.

Thanks for the fusion and MX repository Thai TV tips. Just installed and the Thai TV works great.

  11. Hey All,

Anyone have a tutorial on how to setup my box with XMBC,

I am a little confused to how it works plus I wonder is there a way of just showing tv channels with a tv guide? I am not intrested in movies purely live tv channels but would be great to have playback and a tv guide as thats one thing ilovehd.com is missing,

    Cheers

I'm also interested in live TV including Thai TV for the GF. Is Thai TV available with Android boxes? I know the OP mentioned his box is digital TV capable. Does that mean you can plug a cable from a cable TV company? I don't think I'm in an area that would receive a good aerial signal. Also I don't think most Android boxes have that capability (please tell me if I'm wrong).

I've been looking at a Ugoos UT3 Android Box and here.

I have been learning XBMC for the last month now and have found a link for Thai TV but out of 10 or so channels only one works, Thai PBS, but its a better signal than my cable co. provides. I would really like to ditch the cable co. as the signal is terrible. XBMC has been hit and miss for live TV (mostly miss) but streaming movies and TV shows is great with a huge selection. I tried all night Sun/Mon morning to stream live NFL but I could not get any links to work except for one game that had no sound.

I see TOT offers a streaming service but the website is beyond my understanding of Thaiglish and the girls I tried to talk to about it at the office were clueless.

OP said he is using ilovehd.com. I can't find that site I end up on a page that says domain for sale. Does anyone have working link?

  12. No

Completed means a form with all the blanks filled in.

Why be sarcastic? I'm guessing that you're filling in/ filled the form at the immigration office, just wanted to know if you were there at the moment.
I doubt that Joe is being sarcastic. He is trying to be helpful. Read his initial post again. He did not say he had just completed the application. He was just trying to explain that YOU just complete the form.

    I don't agree.

Anyways it's not important , better just to stick on topic

  13. If anyone is interested, here is M/C's link for the exchange rate they are giving. You have to chose the date as you can check rates on previous dates but even though you may not be able to select the current date. The most recent date you can select is the rate you will get at that moment. They use Fridays rates on the weekends and we are one day ahead, holidays etc.

    https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/index.html

And yes, they always give you a better rate than what an ATM will offer you. Select "Continue without conversion".

  14. Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of the Eighth Region Police Command, said the police have now detained all the suspects for questioning, and now have gained evidences of who are the murderer or murderers.

There is more than one, he said, and expressed confidence they will be arrested and charged within this week, he added.

    Two mutually exclusive statements.

    Well done!

Thailand is the land of oxymorons. smile.png

    Or the hub....

  15. Police noticed a suspicious boat moving across the Mekong River towards Thailand at around 4am.

What does a suspicious boat travelling across the river look like?

Funnels of bong smoke pouring out the back, Bob Marley cranked up full blast, little Laotians with rastafa hair do's,tea cozies on their heads and blood shot eyes swinging off the boat???cheesy.gif

And lighting their spliffs with fake US notes thumbsup.gif

The stories have to tie together somehow.

  16. If you do use the ATM and they offer to do the exchange rate for you do not accept it!!!

Choose the option to continue without the conversion. The rate they give you is just a way for that bank (ATM owner) to make more money.

For my banks in America Visa or Mastercard is the logo on the debit card and they set the exchange rate. They always give a better rate than the Thai banks will give you. Also if your ATM card has a Visa logo the service fee is ฿150, if it is MC the fee is ฿180. Your bank may or may not charge fees as well.

This link you can find Mastercard's echange rates.

This link you can find Visa's Exchange rates.

  17. I was thinking the same thing. My guess is that we are seeing the same thing Singapore gets from the slash and burn going on in Indonesia. The weather graphics on the news today seemed to show a southerly flow rather than the westerly flow that we have been getting lately.

  18. Thx guys

Well, perhaps I'm looking at wrong numbers but I went to all the banks , Siam, kasikorn etc etc and tomb seemed to hv the best rate. Most we're saying 28.5 but tmb was 28.79. This was in patong though, would that make a difference, surely it shouldn't ...?

The same bank will have the same exchange rates at all their branches throughout the country.

Indeed the rates probably changed between the time you were checking and the time I checked.

  19. No medical certificate required in Phuket for a 5 year renewal...and it has to be renewed before it expires, else there are penalties.

Tell us more about these penalties as I have never heard any reports about any late penalties here in Phuket. Indeed many reports recommend renewing after the date.

When did my 5 year renewal, over 4 years ago, they would not let me renew until after my licenses had expired.

It doesn't make sense to me, but I would like to know if that has changed as I will have to renew again in 5 months. I sure don't want to go in the week before my licenses expire only to to be told to come back after they expire as I did last time.

Another thing that doesn't make sense is why do we have to have separate licenses for car and motorcycle. It seems to me both types could be indicated on one license.

  20. The bank giving the best rate for AUD is Government Savings Bank. The worst is TMB...Sorry. But the difference is only 1.57 Baht, not enough to hurt unless your changing a shitload of money.

Funny thing though the GSBank in Kamala had to close but they have had a mobile branch van outside Blackcat Bar. I don't know if they are doing exchange services. GSBank was located in the White Resort building. That hotel was only 2 years old. The rummer is that it is/was owned by a cop that is under investigation and for whatever reasons the hotel is being deconstructed rather than being sold. Go figure...?
