  1. I've been awake for at least 20 mins - I couldn't sleep! Last night was a resounding success. It was well attended and the young punks, despite their appearance suggesting otherwise, were well behaved. You missed a good night, but I think it will be repeated in the not too distant future.

  2.  Nicky from Guitarman has recently moved house and doesn't have access to the internet at the moment so I said I'd do him a favour by posting the details from his Facebook page here on News and Events. Done.

  3. That's were the No Riff Raff routine came from - and some people to this day believe that, God bless 'em. :D   They somehow think that I am selecting customers as they enter, turning away the rejects.  :D

Waiter, I wish to complain, not about the excellent Schitzel/Home-Fries , but something even more serious than food !

As a genuine riff-raff, I was permitted to enter your esteemed establishment recently, and was not ejected instantly. :)

This simply isn't good enough, don't you have standards to maintain ? :D

I hope that wasn't a Freudian slip. It's Schnitzel, if you don't mind.

  4. I do not know why everyone complains about Kevin. Everytime I see him he is at Guitarman.....Not sure if he is allowed in his resturaunt. It has standards.

Talking of which - It's punk night at Gutarman on Friday. Have you bought your Extra Firm Hold gel yet? That mohican hair-style won't work without it. :)

  5. What do other people say if you mention anything about TV Chiang Mai? Most people (possibly all) that I mention it to have a very negative attitude towards it. 'Aresholes' would probably be the most common assessment. "I don't read it anymore", the standard reply.

Arguably it is over moderated and unfortunately most of the moderation is coming from fellow posters!! I've seen a couple of Newbies throw in the towel in the last few weeks purely because people automatically assumed they were flaming. Innocent posters were scared off by negative feed-back. Like it or not, this forum isn't a very friendly place to new-comers.

I actually sent a message to a Ian Forbes a couple of months ago telling him that he is going to attract a certain response if he continues with his posts. 'You're too happy and upbeat and enjoying life for some people - you're gonna piss them off", I said - half joking, half telling him how it is. Sure enough, an innocent post - "I'm coming home to Thailand", turned out to be the one that did it. The miserable idiots just couldn't bear it and out came the attacks. Two flaming post were deleted, one remains. I know Ian doesn't care about these folk or their pathetic responses, but it is off-putting to some, including the readers. Either way, the topic dies because of the negative vibes, and some people stop reading.

People ask me why do I read it? The answer is, that I am so often utterly amazed by the stupidity and negativity of some of the posters, it fascinates me. How do people living in this wonderful city with such a wonderful climate (espescially now) and nice people become so negative and miserable? That's what keeps me coming back to TV - my fascination with the knee-jerk, angry, penny-pinching, miserable bastards. Who are they and why are they so unhappy? I did figure it out eventually. :D

The responses to my 'Free Water' topic absolutely amazed me. The anger , rage, and stupidity that arose out of what was originally an innocent observation by me - some people would rather walk out of a restaurant than pay for a bottle of water (or corkage)!! :) . I was smitten. I loved TV from that day on. 'These people are unreal', I thought. Just press a little button and watch them explode. Brilliant!! I think it ended up with something like 150,000 views. Pure Pantomime. I did a couple of others and each time the same responses.

The reason they came to an end was because of all the nonsense about advertising. I was relating events from my daily activities, which were obviously set in a pub and suddenly everyone was complaining that I was advertising (not just the mods). Sure, because of the absurdity of the advertising complaints and regulations, I did a lot of piss-taking but when I was eventually banned and asked to take up an ad my response to the mods was 'I wouldn't want these miserable people in my place!! Why would I want to pay to advertise to them?'. That's were the No Riff Raff routine came from - and some people to this day believe that, God bless 'em. :D   They somehow think that I am selecting customers as they enter, turning away the rejects.  :D And they would love to think that I am a real-life John Cleese. That's why I changed my Avatar.

The other thing that amuses me is the people complaing about the different topics or comments that people raise. I don't know about you, but I look down the list of topics and ignore most of them because they don't interest me. Easy isn't it. Yet some people see a topic that doesn't interest them and then writes in to complain about it!! Absolute nutters, as far as I'm concerned.

So finally, in reply to your question 'what happened...?' . The miserable, negative, unhappy souls have scared too many people away. I enjoy the fun of it all too much , so I'm sorry to say, I'll probabaly stick around.

  6. Hmmm...retired ex-schoolteacher... (but ex-IRS!). Gay (with 6 kids!). Anti-Taxsin (but I live in Chinese-Thai village in Amphur San Kamphaeng)...oh well. :)

You're a walking 'contradiction in terms'!!

  7.  No questions of efficiency were made - only by him, rather improperly, referring to Pedr, Chas and Rachel. I think that was a poor show to say the least but neither they nor their trade will suffer from his outburst.

You fascinate me! How could anyone, other than you, read my post and see it as a criticism of those lovely hosts Pedr, and Chas n Rachel?  :)

Haven't you seen the pattern in these silly little attacks you make on me?

    1. You make some stupid remark about me or my pub.

    2. I reply in a very controlled, deliberate manner and you invariably get more disturbed.

    3. Some people join in on my side and further high-light your stupidity.

    4. No-one writes in to support your view, so you become more defensive.

    5. Eventually, you slither away with your tail between you legs, muttering "I'm telling the Mods about you".

Quite a comic little routine. Good entertainment for me, but a little bit tedious for outsiders , I imagine.

  8. I think it says a lot about the owners of Tuskers and The Olde Bell that they get on with providing a good service as mine hosts and spend their time running their businesses rather than engaging on silly sarcastic self promotions.

    As Will27 said

    "It had to happen.

When it comes to TRL and the owner,

    Caf, just can't help himself."

Other people have noticed and commented too. It's becoming an obsession isn't it?

But never mind, I like you, you're funny. Not very clever, but funny nonetheless. It's your lack of logic that amuses me.

Do you honestly think that I don't/can't run my business because I'm on the internet sometimes? There are only two choices right? Run your business or engage in silly sarcastic comments. That's what 'rather than' implies. One or the other.

With great respect to Pedr and Chas n Rachel, according to you they are not as efficent as I am, because not only do I find time to run my business I also find the time to engage in silly sarcastic self promotions!! And I manage to find the time to play tennis three or four times a week. So all you've done is high-light how super-efficient I am. Thanks for the compliment. :)

PS. If the intention of your posts is to irritate or annoy me (what other reason could there be? Answers please) then I'm afraid you're not quite hitting the mark, are you? In fact, you might want to review my posts. Have you ever seen me get angry? In the midst of heavy criticism in the likes of the 'Free Water' post, when people were using the biggest, boldest fonts possible to express their outrage did I react angrily? No, I didn't. I found it amusing. Incredibly amusing. I imagined those poor lost souls frothing at the mouth. How can people get so irritated and angry over such trivial things? It fascinates me, as you do, but doesn't anger me in the slightest. Just to let you know.

I made no reference to the efficiency of Pedr Chas or Rachel but your slur is obviously seen for what it is - uncontrolled vindictiveness and flaming. Still written at 2 in the morning what can we expect.

One of your best. Well done!! "Uncontrolled vindictiveness". :D

If there is one aspect of my posts that is quite consistent it is the fact that they are controlled - no knee jerk reactions from me.

Just out of curiosity, what is the relevance of my timing? You're not implying I was drunk are you? Just to let you know, I haven't been drunk for more than 20 years at least. I had 2 small Singha Light yesterday - slightly less than my average. I'm watching my figure, you see.

It's turned out nice again, lovely day for tennis.

  9. ^ I even designed the 'no free water' tee shirt for you KH :D
    Yes, one of thes days....

Didn't you do a No Riff Raff one too? :D

I had a guy in tonight... Australian! Tatoos! Pony-tail & ear-rings!! and he is named after a tropical fruit!!!! Truely.   :)

Fortunately for him, he is my tennis partner so I let it slide. I did get him to sit outside, with his back to the street, though (there are limits, even if he is my mate).

  11. You know....I just want to whistle a happy tune.

The theme from "Andy of Mayberry" .

Sometimes it really brings me down that some people can't see the grace and beauty that surrounds us all.

I agree. If you're going to Whistle a Happy Tune, why not whistle along to this one this one..

Some things in life are bad

They can really make you mad

Other things just make you swear and curse.

When you're chewing on life's gristle

    Don't grumble, give a whistle

And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the light side of life...

    If life seems jolly rotten

    There's something you've forgotten

And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.

When you're feeling in the dumps

    Don't be silly chumps

Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the light side of life...

  12. Nut Screws Washers and Bolts? :)

If you want somewhere in town, then Sri Donchai Rd has about 10 stores selling that kind of stuff, on the section from the moat to Suriwong Book Shop. Alternatively there is a big store on Charoen Muang Rd, just 100 metres past the Nawarat Bridge on the left-hand side, heading towards the railway station. Plenty of other small DIY stores there too.

That's not a girlie hardware store - a great selection of bolts and fastenings of almost every kind!

I remember using that store when I was fitting out the pub. I remember wandering around it looking for the right door fittings and then I was fascinated by the realisation that I had ended up just like my dad - admiring a well made pair of pliers, or a good pair of brass hinges. Like most guys I detest shopping but drop me off in a hardware store and I could be entertained for hours. Sad, but true. :D

  13. I agree.

I had dengie fever that began with similar symtoms.

Get yourself down to the quacks and have this checked out.

Hope you get well soon and please keep us informed of your progress.

I never made it to a doctor as I decided to stick with good old Paracetamol and sleep and sweat it out. I'm about 80% over it now, with sleep almost returning to normal and fever not as high. I'll probably take another day off and hope to be fighting fit tomorrow. I can't believe how much I've slept in the last few days but it seems to have been the best cure. Thanks for the concern and best wishes to fellow sufferers.

  15. For the last 2 days all I've done is sleep. I've been able to get up for about 2 hours and then I need to go back to bed and sleep a deep sleep. I've probably slept for 40 of the last 48 hours. I get a very high fever and I'm usually waking up with the pillows soaked . The fever eventually recedes after taking a couple of Paracetamol. I also have a slight dull headache and slight light-headedness. Other than that I'm fine!! My kids used to get vague fevers when they where kids but it's my first experience other than a dengue-like fever 3 or 4 years ago. I know it's not dengue because no aching bones, other than those caused by spending so much time in bed, and no rash. I'm assuming for the time being that I can just sweat it out, but if it doesn't improve tomorrow I will probably visit the doctor.

I was just wondering if anyone else has this or knows of it being around at the moment. I'm just sticking with the paras for now and the occcasional re-hydration salts, any other tips?

The last time I was sick , I couldn't keep anything down so I was recommended suppositories. They weren't very effective, and in fact for what use they were, I might just as well have stuck them up my arse!! (Blame the fever on that one!!). :)

  16. kh.
