1. No BBC News and I can't find the movie channels. If it doesn't change by Monday I'm canceling my WETV.

What does the fact that they've posted a new TV listing (without BBC or CNN) on their web-site tell you?

2. I just got through to WETV and told her if the old channels don't come back, me and at least a hundred other people would cancel their service, as nothing worth watching anymore.

She said it was a license problem. I pointed out that has never been an issue in the past. She said she would look into it.

So if you all start calling now something might get done; 053 418720 is there number.

An interesting idea, but bear in mind that the 'licence problem' is probably the fact that they don't have licenses for anything they were showing (or at least anything worth watching) . Why do you think it was so cheap?

3. At this moment, Sky news has changed to Fox and BBC has changed to Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera has changed to a Red shirt channel .......

Stay tuned , because it could just be the lad in the control room is bored and playing with the remote. :)

Just re-checked - practically every channel has either moved or changed!! There are Two Supersport channels at this moment, and the 2 movie channel have moved and changed!?

There is more entertainment now in figuring out what channels are left and where have they moved to and what the new channels are, than there ever was in actually watching them. :D

The new listing on the web-site doesn't have BBC or CNN, but the good news is ....there is Z Music 'Music & Variety from India'. Goodness Gracious me.

Sellers & Loren

4. Yeah, and they also replaced CNN with Sky News.

OK, I'm not the biggest fan of CNN.

But Sky News? When we already have the Beeb?

Rupert Murdoch strikes again... :)

I don't think Rupert has any control on programming at WETV. I know some of the locals do, espescially with regard to sports. Apparently, a call to the right person can ensure that a particular channel of Supersports is shown at a particular time. :D

As regards to the choice of channels - I think it may have more to do with what is 'free' than anything else.

5. when it rainys do u ppl ride ur motosai?

ive never ridden on rain b4, but with wet oily roads, its gonna be very slippery?

Just to let you know about new rain on oily roads - I saw two guys come off ther motorbikes last night due to oily roads. Be careful, espescially on the corners. Maybe not so bad now that there has been a bit more rain but fore-warned is fore-armed, as they say.

6. Thanks, Kevin. Where exactly on Thapae Road is the AIS office? Can I get by with my rudimentary Thai?

By the way, I find myself topping up my prepaid SIM every month just to keep it active even though I'm an infrequent user. Is there a plan I can switch to for infrequent users?

It is on the corner of Tapae and Kampheng Din rd - i.e. about 200 metres after the Changklan Rd turn - heading towards Tapae gate.

I have a 2-sim phone and one sim is just an emergency back-up so I use it infrequently, and don't want to keep topping up. I want to see if I can get the expiry date increased by a couple of months - why don't you try to ask them and let me know how you get on?

They have staff that speak perfect english.

7. You can register at AIS office on Tapae rd. You need to take your passport. The benefit is that if you lose your phone you can report it to AIS, retain your number and get a new sim card with any outstanding balance included, for free. That was my experience about 3 months ago.

8. Does anybody else have same "mobile" saunas like iainiain101 bought? Are they as good as usual ones?

My wife bought one. The steam is produced from a rice cooker adjusted with a spout as an outlet. She doesn't use it any more. Maybe because I laughed at her every time I saw her head popping out of the hood.

For three months of the year, I am hot enough just sitting reading the paper to not need a sauna. I avoid the heat like Thais avoid the sun. What are the benefits of these saunas? You certainly won't lose weight, which is why most Thai women buy them.

9. Dogs bark, cats meaw, frogs croak, birds tweet, cocks crow and Too-kays say 'F*%k you' all night. Get used to it. It makes life a lot easier. I have all these noises around me and I still sleep like a babby. If you don't let the noises bother you, you sleep a contented sleep. It's not the noises that are keeping you awake, it's the getting annoyed. Calm down. :D

Actually I agree with you Kevin. Very sensible post. Is this a new years resolution. :D

I ask for information only, but in your avatar which one is you?

I'm the tall, good looking one. The other one is you (in my dreams). :)

10. This is also a load of rubbish. You obviously have never had a dog in a house close enough that had a bark that loud for you to understand. Is it really beyond your comprehension that not all dogs bark at the same volume?

I have about six dogs next door, two on the other side, three of my own and maybe six Soi dogs that howl all night. There are also a few chickens next door - I forgot about them, but one just crowed. Last night the dogs howled like something from a horror movie, at a volume that even surprised me. I ignored it and slept.

One morning I awoke to the sound of a neighbour replacing his corrugated iron roof less than 20 metres from my window. I got up, looked out the window, shrugged my shoulders and went back to sleep. I woke up periodically from the sound of a hammer on metal, and each time went back to sleep. I don't let noises bother me, so I sleep a contented sleep. My neighbours never complain, so presumably they are doing the same.

I noticed you are from England? When I go there I can't sleep because of the deafening silence. Honestly. With double glazing you don't hear anything at night. The last time I was there, whilst we were sitting in the garden, my sister complained about a yapping dog - 'It hasn't stopped all day!!', she said. I strained my ears and detected a puppy yapping maybe two hundred yards away. I couldn't believe it, but then my sister has always been a bit neurotic about noise. She is the sister ( I have five) that insisited on turning the TV down below human hearing, and asking us not to flush the toilet because the baby was sleeping!!

Anyway, the fact that you think I talk a load of rubbish and am beyond comprehending that dogs bark at different volumes won't cause me to lose sleep. I think it was a little bit rude, considering I took the time to offer my invaluable advice.

I might add that I've been here for twenty years. Presumably you are either a Newbie, a Neurotic, or both.

11. The Red Lion is owned by a scouser, I think that is as close as you get or if you fancy the Welsh option the Old Bell. :D
Liverpool is sometimes referred to as the capital of Ireland and certainly has a very strong Irish influence. A Dubliner is as close as you'll get to being a scouser outside of Liverpool. Same sense of humour, but they talk funny. :)

I originally considered the idea of opening an Irish pub instead of an English pub (and almost had Eddie from the Escape as a partner!!) but then I realised that after 12years of explaining why an Englishman had a German restaurant (Haus Munchen) I didn't want to go along that path.

12. Sometimes you have to have relatively thick skin here ( and all the tv forums) but I agree with you, I don't understand the mentality of those "who will find some way to give some kind of sarcastic or nasty comment."

caf, you constantly insult and provoke Kevin Hunt for no good reason and everyone knows it.

Now, you have attacked me on another thread with some nasty remarks - although you insist that it is "just a humorous remark".

You do all the exact same things that you complain about on here constantly. Have you ever considered a little professional help? :)

A bit light on facts. A bit heavy on knee jerk reactions.

You need to read more. There are several good book shops in Chiangmai. Try Geeko. :D

See, I'm even giving you a plug. Just be a bit more open minded.

I took Oneman's advice and use the 'ignore user' option. Worth thinking about, but don't forget to 'Block User' from PM box too. :D
13. Dogs bark, cats meaw, frogs croak, birds tweet, cocks crow and Too-kays say 'F*%k you' all night. Get used to it. It makes life a lot easier. 14. quote "Lang may yer lum reek an a guid N’ear Dy"

That's very good. A combination of Australian and Yorkshire.

Long may your bum reek , and good tomorrows to you as well.

15. Maybe you need to learn netiquette Kevin as good manners online should be as necessary as good manners in person.

Unless good manners in any form is not of interest to you?

Good manners is of no interest to me? Where did you get that from?

Did you ever see me using profanities, mis-spelt or otherwise? I don't need others to tell me about ettiquette, my mother taught me that already. I have no need for bold or all-capitals as a means of expressing anger since I never get angry. :D Netiquette or not , I still find it amusing that people interpret all caps as shouting. Leave the caps lock on and people are saying 'Alright, I heard you. No need to shout!!!' :D

Anyway, I'm off to 'work' so I hope you enjoy your evening. Happy New Year to all. :)

16. <snip> the forum would be better off without the foul-language ( disguised or otherwise ) <snip>

<deleted> that! :D

I could say that the forum would be better off without excessively sensitive prudes. But I don't believe that. I believe that, as far as reasonable, inclusiveness trumps exclusiveness. I think the TV forum has found a reasonable balance when it comes to language and subject matter. The moderators have a light touch and I like that, though I'd like it more if it were a little lighter still.

I love some of the strange rules, like the one about bad language. Bad language is not allowed unless it's combined with bad-spelling!!! It's either allowed or not, why would mis-spelling make any difference? :D

Even funnier is the notion that BOLD text is interpreted as shouting and people actually get bothered by it!! :)

17. Is the rictus grin of "ming the merciless" aka I. Forbes still trawling the streets of Chiang mai. Seeking out the beautiful local things for local people.

Ian Forbes is out enjoying life, having fun and making people happy.

That really seems to bother sneaky, socially inadequate losers who hide their identity and insult people from the computer to make up for their pathetic lives.

Karma always gets you in the end! :)

I sent a message to Ian in September telling him that he will be annoying a lot of people on TV by being so happy and obviously enjoying life and living it to the full.

I also related a true story my wife told me about her visit to a sister in Germany.

It reminds me of the story my wife told me about her being stopped in Stuttgart by a middle-aged woman who wanted to know why she always looked so happy. Her reply was 'I'm Thai'. I got the impression that the woman was really annoyed - ('why should she be so happy, when we're all so miserable'). :D

18. I agree! I go there often because most of my friends frequent the place. The food is uite good, but the staff sure can be miserable, and the staff do not want to hear it!

The staff don't want to hear you telling them that they are miserable? Strange people!!

Have you ever had someone say to you 'what's wrong with you today? - you don't look too happy.' , when in fact there is nothing wrong with you, you just don't happen to have a permanent smile on your face, or maybe you were just thinking about something. How do you answer that, other than the obvious? :)

19. I haven't been to the UN Irish for a while but I got the impression that it was very popular for quiz nights and sports nights and that it had a good core of regular younger expat locals. If that is the case, then some people are obviously quite happy with the service. I've never had a problem with the staff, and always considered Sandy as being one of Chiang Mai's jolliest bar owners.

20. I have yellow Tabien Baan. Do I need it, NO. its another form of ID and it will most the time eliminate the certificate of residence from immigration if required. As I say this if you can get a Tabien Baan go for it. Rememberer regiments very from Amphor to Amphor

I've never had, or been on either a blue or yellow book and don't really know why I would need them. I've had about 18 one-year visas and a similar number of one-year work permits and I don't think anyone ever asked for one? Why specifically do you need them? That was what the question was about, by the way - Do I need one?

21. If the idea was something along the lines of a group of like-minded souls getting together once a week or once a month to maybe go for a meal at a different restaurant, or visit different bars or go on the occasional outing it might work, but a permanent based club would be a non-starter I would think. Too expensive and not enough people willing to fork out, I reckon. A male equivalent of the International women's group, maybe? Not that I know too much about what they get up to.
