  1. Just a small point Kev ust had a toasted cheese and tomato sarnie from your place, consisted of 2 pieces of toast with a piece of cold cheese and tomato placed between the slices, surely the filling is suppose to be hot  :)

    Chips were ok btw :D

Never thought of that! We have cheese on toast, which of course is hot, but very few people ever ask for a toasted sandwich. We don't have one of those toasted sandwich gizmos so they are making two pieces of toast and adding the filling. A 'toaster' is now on my shopping list. Glad to see that you like the home-made chunky chips - a lot of time goes into making them.

  2.

As for the staffing problems, I think using Fawlty Towers DVD's as training videos might have been a mistake   :)

You just reminded me that I haven't put the 'No Riff Raff' sign back yet (it was replaced by a Christmas decoration during the Season of Goodwill, and that's behind us now, of course). That would explain how the tone has lowered of late. Some odd characters have slipped in, especially just after Christmas. :D

  3. One of the benefits of free wi-fi is the customers can comment quicker and I will be able to react quicker!!

Who would have thought that a simple post notifying people about free wi-fi would turn out to be so controversial (other than me :D ).

    I love Thai Visa. :D

Another benefit of having Wifi in your restaurant is that now some ThaiVisa members can verbally abuse you, criticize your establishment, complain and poke fun directly by email on line from within your own restaurant, saving them all the inconvenience of having to log in on ThaiVisa and doing it somewhere else.

But they will have to put wifi in at Guitarman so that he can read them.

Actually, I've been in The Red Lion all night, but if Nicky is still open I might just pop in for a swift one on the way home. I'll mention the WiFi to him, but tell him it was your idea. :D

PS Did someone verbally abuse me? I never noticed that one. Maybe someone can point it out for me. I like a bit of verbal jousting, even if it is over the internet. :)

  4. Talk to the owner of the Sugar Bar 2 and Coffee Shop on Kotchasan Rd just south of Loi Khor. They own a few businesses that require these license and they have the information that you need.

Actually, Bill, the owner Sugar Bar 2, has already left to Afghanistan for a year..

    -Mestizo

He should talk to Pedr at Olde Bell , as I believe he struck a deal to get a reduced rate for the bars thereabouts.

  5. A busy day for the Mods. As I stated earlier "It doesn't bother me that customers complain." ... "I would rather these incidents didn't occur, but if they do I'd like to know about it in order to rectify the problem.".

I don't get flustered easily, so it's interesting to see so many people doing so on my behalf. A word of advice, if I may....

    "Calm down, calm down." :)

  6. OK, guys and gals, we're getting a bit loopy here on this topic.

This poll dates from last September. Charlie's wins according to the results.

I believe everyone who wanted to vote, has voted.

All in favour of closing this thread, raise your right hand and say "aye". :)

    Aye!

It seems to have served it's purpose. If the results are in, there is no need to prolong it.

  7. Bump!

What does 'Bump' mean? I've seen it a few times over the years on various forums. Am i just behind on the times?

    Aitch

It means that no-one responded, and as a result the topic fell down to the bottom of the page. The Op bumped it back up hoping to get some response.

  8. Oooh id forgotten about those feedback forms, yes an excellent idea... my only suggestion there would be to make sure pens/pencils are available for people to fill them out... we didnt have any on our table and i didnt want to annoy the Staff further by asking for something else :D

Good idea. Pens on every table, as soon as I'm back from tennis. :)

  9. Hope the wifi is faster than the service. My BLT took over a 45 minutes to arrive, despite there were less than 10 people in the restaurant, and it arrived cold.

The coffee tasted awful, served without milk/creamer, which i had to ask for... The Old Thai lady who appeared to be running the show constantly complained about how busy she was (10 customers in the bar - of which they had all already been served!!!) and then proceeded to mutter some pretty insulting Thai swear words when i reminded her i was still waiting for my sandwich 45 minutes after ordering it. I guess she didn't realize i speak pretty good Thai :)

This was just after Christmas 2009, and to be frank, i've had better service and better food at the McDonalds across the street.

Maybe next time i will choose a different venue for my mid-day breakfast!

Mr Moderator, the OP a sponsor... You can't possibly have a bad experience at a venue that pays for advertising with TV. You must of made a mistake, right ?

I doesn't bother me that customers complain. I've spoken with the staff and tried to establish what happened and why, and I will try to ensure it doesn't happen again. I have a form on every table for people to leave their comments and the first page of the menu says "If you have a problem with any aspect of our service please don't hesitate to inform us."

I would rather these incidents didn't occur, but if they do I'd like to know about it in order to rectify the problem.

  10. That was a quote from me Dad, and as some of you may be aware, I've pretty much gone along with that :D . However.......... in order to keep up with the times in this new decade I'm pleased to announce that we now have free WiFi for customers at the Red Lion. And not only is it free, it is fast - AIS 3G, no less.

(Technically, me Dad's old adage is still true, because you are expected to order something - even if it's only a bottle of water). :)

  11. 70 HBO

    72 Star Movies

I should be so lucky! Perhaps there are different packages for WETV? There's certainly no HBO or Star Movies on my little lot :) Anyone else got these?

    Aitch

No. I don't have HBO or Star Movies and they aren't mentioned on their web-site (wetv.co.th/en_channel).

There is a Star Cinema channel which is a movie channel dubbed in Thai and shouldn't be confused with Star Movies, which was a part of Star TV (and as such was crap).

  12. i always thought the walking street markets were free to vendors, just roll up and sell yr wares but no copied stuff

    i could be wrong thou

The best known is Rachadamnoen "walking street" on Sundays, and the other 2 on Saturdays are Wualai Road and Bumrungrad Road, the section north west of the British Council/Consul.

This market is mostly on the road joining Kaeo Nawarat Rd and Rattanakosin Rd at  the lights near McCormick, and like you said, is not well known amongst the expats. There is also a market behind Carrefour in the Chiang Mai Business park but I'm not sure which day it is (weekend) catering mostly to young Thais - fashion and accesories. One of my many sisters will be here in a few weeks time so I imagine I'm going to find myself being dragged around such places - it's the only time I ever see Walking street.  :)

  13. My wife told there was a love movie about art students who took pictures on that bridge. So like after "Pai in love" when there were more couples annoyingly taking picture than real customers in the "all about coffee" shop and around on the streets.

I've seen a few movies being filmed on that bridge over the years, so that would probably explain it. I cross the bridge every night on the way home and I've never seen any indication that "the youth are selling their body". Mostly they are young couples. (And people fishing).

I don't know if people are aware of the fact that this bridge was built about 17 years ago and is a copy of the old original nawarat bridge.

          post-54542-1263362602_thumb.jpg

The new bridge was completed a week after I moved into my newly built house, and cut my journey home from about 10 minutes to 3 minutes. Very considerate of them, I thought.

  14.

I wasn't aware such one-sided media coverage was allowed in a democracy.

    Cheers

    Aitch

The very point of democracy is the freedom of expression!!*

    * Local Rules and Regulations may apply.   :)

  15. capture930.gif

Why not just go for the save Sony PSII.2.2 version, you can play yourself whenever you want, after all the real version not really something you can't miss I guess, and hooligans may be confused with red shirts, you really don't want that...

Its a pity there isn't a 'Translate' button on TV.

  16. I would go to pizza company, but realy im making this post coz ive just registered as a user, and i wanna see how it works.

u started a pizza thread just to see how the forum works? great selection mate :D

Yes, but if he'd asked 'Where can I get a free glass of water with my meal?' ................ :)

  17. Maybe UNIrish?

    They close at 1am.

I would suggest asking them at Keuy Chiang Mai restaurant on Sriphum rd, which is open all night. I often watch late-night football there. If there is no Premier League or FA cup football on, they may be prepared to show the American Football. I think they have about 4 big TV's and a projector and they seem to have both UBC and WETV. Thias love Football so that will always be the priority, I imagine, but if there is enough of you maybe they might be persuaded to change one of the TV's over.

FYI , Keuy Chiang Mai is next to the old Rasta Art Bar, which is now closed, but still has all the signboards up.

  18. Interesting to see how minds work.

Seems farang consensus is they have the right to change the channels (which of course they do - although slightly dodgy when they have been pushing the pre pay option). Plus of course don't like it so will cancel it.

All my Thai friends seem to be way more cynical - the consensus saying "pressure " from UBC.

Although having had WETV for many years this sudden massive change in channels is totally unprecedented. It certainly gets you thinking as to what might be behind it.

The only pressure I heard about was perfectly reasonable. A couple of years ago WETV were showing Premier League football through Supersports South Africa whilst UBC were paying quite a lot I imagine, for the sole rights to broadcast it it in Thailand.
