  1. Hi All,

Unfortunately i have to transit through Cairo airport very soon.

I have read reports from travellers of cancelled flights out of Egypt, and general chaos at the airport.

Have tried to contact the airline with no joy.

I am not happy with the prospect of being taken to Cairo and then being unable to leave.

Does anybody out there have any up to date info on transitting through Cairo airport??

    Thanks

  2. As already said, using the embassy to deposit a copy of your Thai marriage certificate with the GRO in the UK will not change the legality of your marriage in anyway; as far as the UK is concerned it is already legal. I don't think doing so would gain you the certificate the Spanish require, merely some form of receipt.

Why the Spanish are asking for some form of certificate from the British embassy, I don't know; your marriage is legal in Thailand, the UK and, as Beano says above, Spain!

I've never heard of anyone having to do this when they have married in Thailand and later applied for a Schengen visa for Spain in the UK.

All I can suggest is that you contact the consular section at the British embassy and ask them if they will issue this certificate and how much the fee is.

    Contact details.

    Thanks 7by7

I'm waiting for a reply from the spanish embassy on this

  3. Hi Guys

    Thanks for the replies

This is an email i recieved from the Spanish embassy today,

Dear Sir, first of all if you got married in Thailand please bring the Thai Marriage Certificate to the UK Embassy to get a certificate confirming that a civil marriage which takes place in Thailand and is valid under Thai Law would normally recognised as valid under British Law. Or if you got married in the UK, kindly bring a copy of the Marriage Certificate. So, your wife will not have to pay for a visa fee nor does she needs an offical invitation letter from the Police in Spain. Here we have attached a form for you to fill in so your wife can get an appointment to come apply for a visa at the Embassy. What you will need are the following:

From this it seems that i need to get a certificate from the UK embassy.

  4. I am going through this process right now.

The Spanish embassy doesn't provide very much info on their requirements.

You will need along with the obvious documentation,

    a. Proof of income from either you or the wife.

    b. Full itinerary, ie air tickets

    c. Proof of accomadation during the stay (hotel booking is ok) This is very important

    d. If staying with friends or family an "official invitation letter" available from their local police dept in Spain. I asked about this yesterday

    e. Travel insurance for the wife (this is important too) they must be insured for 30000 euros

Again its a bit sketchy about the application process, but i believe you have to email the embassy requesting a date to apply for the visa.

They will issue the visa to cover only the exact travel dates, ie if you will be in Spain for 10 days, the visa will be only valid for those 10 days

If you are a UK national the schengen visa will be free for the wife.

  5. Hi Folks,

I will be taking my Thai wifey to visit my parents in Spain soon.

I am a UK national. Parents own property in Spain. We will be staying with them for a few weeks.

My question to you all is this; Do my parents need to obtain from their local police station an "official invitation letter" ???

After having visited the UK and Italy several times with the wifey, this "official" invitation letter only available from the police station seems a bit over the top.

Do any of you have any experience with this???

    Cheers

  6. "Reasonable price" is completely dependent upon the individual. Many TVers post "what's the best value", when they mean "what's the cheapest". The December issue of "Big Chili" covers many venues, from Xmas eve all the way through New Year's day. The prices run from 500THB to 30,000THB.

In this case hhgz, reasonable really just means reasonable.

I don't intend to go cheap, i'm just looking for a good christmas lunch without paying a silly premium for it.

1000 baht a head not including drinks seems reasonable to me.

Upon checking some of the prices for some of the local Bkk eateries, 1500-2000 ++ not including drinks seems a tad over the top to me.

    But then that's just me.

  7. Just looking for a few ideas and recommendations on where to eat Christmas day. I'm in the BKK area.

Had a look in the villa.......3500 baht for a 5 kilo cooked turkey (wow $110, and that's before any of the trimmings )

Most of the pubs seem to be in the 1500-2000 baht range and that doesn't include drinks ( nearly $200 for two with drinks)

I would imagine the good hotels would be even more.

Do any of you out there have any recommendations on where to find a good dinner at a reasonable price over the holidays?

    Cheers

  8. I have also listened to ATC in thailand on commercial flights and Im pretty sure the pilots sometime have no idea what is being said on the thai end, and they just follow the approach/departure procedures as filed. Something scary to think about next time you land in thailand:)

    Spot on there!

Biggest problem is when Thai controllers try to communicate with chinese pilots.

There have been many unreported near incidents in the past.

  9. Try the civil aviation training center (CATC) in Hua Hin.

I have a commercial license that i kept current upto a few years ago.

You can just show up and rent out whatever they have by the hour.

Show them your log book and you're on your way.

Hua Hin to Phuket and back via Prachuap kiri kan and Surat Tani is a flight worth taking for the scenery.

A few years ago single engine ran about 4-5 k per hour and multi engine 6-8 k per hour. (includes a check pilot if you need one)

  10. Thanks for that info

craigt3365 and Miiyai46 you both mention Puerta del Sol.

that is the answer i was looking for.jap.gif

as for smartypants honda 99..................don't you realize that this is the Thailand travel forum which includes travel to and from Thailandwink.gif

  11. Hi learned ones.

Will be spending a few nights in Madrid soon.

I have never been before, so can anyone recommend a good area for a hotel.

Would like to be centrally located, not to far away from the must see list.

Any ideas or recommendations would be thoroughly appreciated.B)

  12. A few days ago there was a lot of speculation locally that there was going to be a large earthquake in the region this weekend.

The Thai government even commented on this speculation and told people not to panic.

Apparently the Sun, Earth and Moon were in alignment yesterday, with some saying that this causes unusual gravitational stress on the planet.

After reading about this (on Thai Visa too) over the last few days, i thought that it all sounded like the usual hogwash.

However approximately 1.30 am this morning there was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake centered around the Nicobar islands.

    Coincidence or what???

  13. Went to visit the Ratchaprasong area today, where it was great to see the public and various celebrities and business leaders energetically engaged in a well publicized clean-up.

Those of you familiar with the area will have noticed that a major police HQ sits right near the intersection.

What were all the police doing in the area?................sitting down and doing absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!

Even the damaged police traffic kiosk was being cleaned by the public ....while the BIB sat around watching.

The army are still present in the area, so security is fine.

With all the negative publicity towards our glorious BIB recently, Police General Somchai has lost an excellent opportunity to send out a dozen of his brave warriors with brooms to help clean-

up in front of the cameras.

Seems to me that they sat around watching it messed up, and they are sitting around watching it get cleaned up too!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Evidently from this TAN News tidbit; the 'peaceful protestors' in front of the red-rabble stage at Rachaprasong were a little heavy handed after Central World started burning, and filled their pockets before they reported for the government's free bus ride back to Nakhon Nowhere.
TAN: Luxury items found on some red shirt protesters returning home on buses. Some valued over 10,000 THB

Oh, before the ever present foreign sock-puppet red apologists weigh in with their 2 satang's worth; here's a correction. They're probably 'fake reds' :D , or yellows dressed as reds :) , or ninja warriors dressed as reds :D, or maybe monks dressed as reds :D (Red apologists pick one), what is apparent that they are NOT is the 'dark blue shirt evil doers' as alleged by one of the red leaders when asked if reds were looting. Why would 'dark-blue-shirt-evil-doers' take the free bus home to Nakhon Nowhere?

Just maybe they're nothing more than plain rank-n-file sheep-like red protestors who didn't get their last pay check before their 'party was crashed' and decided to 'settle up' how ever they could.. :D

    A truly magnificent post :D

  15. Right now a large area of central Bangkok is a no-go war zone.

As i search through the Thai TV channels you can see, cooking shows, soaps, celebrity gossip, cartoons and game shows!!!!!!!

Absolutely no coverage about what we all want to know about what's happening right now in BKK.

Have to keep BBC and CNN on to get any info.

This must be a classic case of if you can't see it, it doesn't exist.

  16. Researching this topic on TV, it seemed that this place would issue 90 day permits and re entry permits to anyone, regardless whether you had your extension issued at chamchuree or not.

Was hoping to get a re entry permit.

    No go!!!!!

As of Monday march 8, another policy change!!!!!

You can now only get a re entry or do a 90 day report if your extension was issued at Chamchuree.

Now have to make the trip out to Chang Wattana.

Our friends at immigration making things easier for us again :)
