  1. Kudroz,

    Lets say you were actually paying;

B83,000/month for house rental (approx.1M/year) (nearly impossible to even find in CM)

Had 5 full time 'house staff' at B10,000/month each (ripoff), B600,000/year,

Constantly drove around 3 gas guzzlers spending B30,000B/month on fuel B360,000/year (just plain stupid and terrible for the environment) You would'nt even be HALFWAY to 4MIL/year. Either you have a shopping fetish,gold-digging 'partners'or are full of shit.

I would hazard a guess that he is including business expenses also

Seems reasonable if he's running a company

  2. There will be positive changes here in the future.

    Competition is a wonderful thing.

For a long time Thailand has been the big boy on the local block.

Now some of the other nations want a bigger piece of the tourism pie.

The powers that be will eventually notice this.

I even think that immigration and some of the silly anti-foreigner laws will change for the better.

    Just give it time

  3. Require taxi drivers to actually know where they are going.

Suggest that drivers actually stop at zebra crossings.

Teach them how to clean the roof of those new yellow buses.

Give the glass building an occasional clean at the airport.

    Some critical thinking.

    Stop the "saving face" thing.

    Some common sense.

Larger portions of french fries with your meal. :)

  4. I researched life insurance in Thailand a while back.

Simple conclusion, it is very bad value for money. Risk pool is too small, premiums too high compared with the potential pay out.

Ones which sell you on an interest rate are just scams to be honest. Sorry, but it is true.

Ended up getting a life insurance policy in Australia (where I am from) via AMP. Was straight up and told them I lived and worked in Thailand.

For AUD $30 per month (800 baht), I get $750K worth of life insurance (nearly 20 million baht). Couldn't find similar policies like that in thailand. The difference in the premiums, I invest elsewhere. Beats any return you see on those 'savings/insurance' policies you see here.

Suggest you look back in 'the west' on this one. Much, much better value for money.

    Very interesting

Do you think it is available for British nationals?

  5. Brilliant idea, I have a lot of the british sit coms, I am looking for the specials from only fools and horses, I have all the series but not the specials, i.e Jolly boys outing etc.

I also have all the Blackadders, Red dwarfs, men behaving badly etc etc

Jolly boys outing was one of the best :)

    An absolute classic

Every so often you can get the specials for around 5GBP on amazon

  6. Hi people

My first posting in the smoking corner

My main question to you learned folks is, patches do they actually work?

They are available locally so i will give them a go

Anyone here have any experience with patches?

Your comments sure will be appreciated

  7. If you check out any international airsoft sites, you will see that they will not send an airsoft gun to Thailand

Airsoft is illegal in Thailand, along with many SE Asian countries, but it does exist here in a gray zone.

I would advise anyone NOT to try and bring an airsoft gun into the country, it would very likely be confiscated (and end up on Somchai's shelf)

A few of the major manufacturers are represented here, and you can order through them (but they are not cheap)

Bringing in accessories is quite possible

  8. As poorly operated at Thai Airways International is this seems like a prudent business decision. Because it is Thai I am supicious that something else is going on, a back story of some kind. The move that makes most sense is to negotiate for smaller Airbus aircraft to reduce penalies for canceling A380 orders. However, "This is Thailand" and the minister of communications or health may want the country to start an airline manufacturing company, maybe call DumbassSiamAirlineManufacturingCompany, in an attempt to become the aircraft manufacturing hub of hubs.

And the managing director will be Somtit Iwannaseeyourporn

  9. I have just picked up a case of Penfolds bin 2 for 500 baht a bottle :)

There are deals to be had if you ask around and buy by the case :D:D

Slightly off topic, but how long can you store it here at room temp before it goes bad??????????

  10. As an avid DVD buyer myself, i always order from amazon uk

If you order 2 at a time you should be ok, they seem to always slip through

However, any more than that and it's hit and miss with customs

Then you have to deal with the hassle of a trip to the post office to pay the tax

  11. Mr 7 baht, a little drunk are we? been on the old liquid courage before we hit the keyboard have we?

On reading your opening post, i did initially pity your apparent situation, yes the visa laws are tough and inherently xenophobic

However, as previous posters have noted, 400k is a reasonable amount of money for the local bigwigs to deem you able to provide for yourself for a year

A little planning on your part was needed.

I must point out to you, your over zealous use of the phrase "hahaha", as it does grow rather tiring having to read through it all

Take it easy matey boy, or a moderator might come on and slap you on the leg

  12. I for one am glad that the tourism numbers are in decline here.

For far too long, the TOT and the powers that be have taken the incoming masses of tourists for granted.

What they didn't realize was that the travelers and backpackers of yesteryear put this place on the tourist map.

Add to that all the totally daft rules and regulations here regarding foreigners and here we are.

Soon you will probably hear that the TOT are going to spend a few trillion baht to promote this place again

when all is needed is a good house cleaning at the top

  13. choppychugger, after reading your post, something does not seem right about this.

Any bank i have ever used in this country has ALWAYS asked for ID, when using a bank book.

I have had to produce ID in order to receive any money in this country (money changers being the exception)

If this is the work of a complete stranger, then this is very worrying to any foreigner living here

    Good luck to you
