    Have you seen this -

I have heard about that, and no doubt serious people are looking into it, but it could be for some unusual reason.

If one is able to be re infected normally, the only option, IMO, will be to forget lockdowns and let the chips fall. No way any economy will survive if in lockdown till a vaccine is available in 12 to 18 months time.

well... it is more of an extension to the thai/foreigner business model; in that the thai half gets 51%+ control over everything, without needing to ever lift a finger

In the end my wife wanted 100%, which was when I realised it was over.

Such a shame. I married the perfect woman for myself, and I gave her as much as I could. She certainly had a better life than if she had never married me.

She always refused to talk about whatever was causing her problems, so that made it too difficult to work on solutions.

So, I can only guess as to why she changed from being the perfect wife to a shrieking harpy from hell, but it became impossible to live with her, and that was it. No one gets married to someone in the expectation of getting divorced, and it's always very sad when love turns to hate. I will say though, that I'm glad she did become someone unloveable, as it made it possible to end it. I could not have done so if I still loved her.

The ironic thing though, is that she ruined our marriage because she wanted to give all my money to her family, but after we got divorced she fell out with her family and lived far, far away from them. I wonder if we had both moved if we'd still be together.

I used to hate her at the time we got divorced, but over time hate has turned to pity. She had the chance for a better life and ended up with not much at all.

    Life really does suck.

I think this and some of the other comments here are a bit harsh. A marriage is a partnership. And as you say, family is incredibly important in Thai culture.

I'd put some money in a joint account for normal living, some in her account so she feels secure, and the rest in your own name. So a balance which reflects the loving partnership but gives some protection at the same time.

LOL. If a farang Thai marriage was a partnership, the Thais side would be contributing as well to the financial pot. Fact is in most it's only the farang paying and the Thai taking, so that is NOT a partnership.

My wife never gave me a satang but expected me to pay for everything- that's not a partnership.

I didn't marry her family, I married her. As long as the family were hundreds of miles away she was fine- the perfect wife. That all ended after she conned me into moving to the village, and it never recovered.

If you were marrying a western woman in your country, would you expect to have to give her money so she felt "secure"? I think most men would not.

    Fair enough.

I forgot to include a BIG reason to prefer LOS- the weather. I hate being cold. I was never cold in LOS. I slept with a sheet over me in cool season, but that was the only difference.

A minor reason is the bum gun. Soooooo much better than paper.

There are legal ways to do it,how legal they are or if they would standup in court is the question, however it satisfied the Police when i had my ex wife removed from said house,of course court is a different matter, that's why even though i was fairly sure i would win,i payed her off to get a divorce, have her name removed from Chanote ect.

I've always understood a farang can own a house, but never the land on which it stands.

I suspect the bars will still get their regular customers, but I don’t think the tourist traffic will pick up anytime soon, only when people are convinced that the virus is no longer a threat.

More likely, IMO, when they can afford it. If you are in LOS, you may not realise just how screwed western economies are. Business as usual is not returning any time soon.

I fear it will not be the Jewish nation that will return ,but another more recent one will become all powerful ,that is if mankind survives ,but i fear we will eventually destroy ourselves .

The return of the Jewish nation is just a sign, not the entity that will end life as we know it.

BTW, the Jewish nation returned in 1948.

    Everything ends, sooner or later.

The one I'm thinking of has two bat-like arms that clamp around the tree and give it a vibrate.

LOL. I think the "cherry picker" he is referring to is one of those platforms that lifts someone up high to work on something, not something that actually picks fruit.

Bit expensive just for an infrequent event, but one may be able to be rented locally.

IMO just being tied on securely is good enough, so long as someone is around in case you end up hanging.

Can kiss international tourism by air travel goodbye for a long while. That alone will have severe effects- no need for more planes, so any plane makers and all ancillary industries that survive lay off most workers, everyone that previously worked in international travel probably unemployed, etc. Just in a Thai tourist town like Pattaya, thousands of poor people make a living in the tourist trade working in hotels, restaurants, massage places, selling clothes and trinkets, and even those that try to sell food and souvenirs on the beach. That's not even considering those that work in the nite scene.

Buckle up, it's going to get tough.

  10. As a long time tourist before moving to LOS to live, many hotels and guesthouses deserve to close, as just bad news on every level.

I stayed at hundreds of hotels and guest houses, and a few were excellent, but most were shoddy, overpriced, had poor service, and in some cases staff were outright rude. Too many with thieving cleaners, and decrepit rooms and bathrooms.

If this makes some re evaluate their operations good news and those that think they can just return to normal when it's over should go bankrupt, IMO.

Thailand could target quality, instead of quantity...and look at countries such as the Maldives

Thailand already has some resorts that equal the Maldives, but I very much doubt the entire country could upgrade sufficiently to attract many more. The infrastructure is just too bad to do so and it isn't possible to rebuild the entire country. The rich will probably never consider LOS as a desired destination. No doubt they can get high class call girls wherever they choose to visit.

So, even if they did reposition more resorts to high end spenders, the vast majority of Thais that live off tourism will not benefit, IMO.

This will take six months to get through but I’d be surprised if Pattaya wasn’t up and running again in 2021.

I’ve never witnessed a situation were people around the world were largely in the same boat. Many people will lose their jobs and businesses everywhere.

Depends on which "Pattaya" you refer to. If it's the Chinese destination, possibly, but if you mean the farang bar scene I doubt it, and even possible it vanishes, or becomes as pathetic as Chiang Mai or Hua Hin.

The reason for that is two fold, IMO.

1/ western economies are going to be devastated, and I doubt mongers will have the funds to be visiting Pattaya in the required numbers.

2/ something that was already underway- bargirls are transferring to the internet to seek customers. No need to hang out in bars getting bored and pretending to like fat old men.

Stuff. Just stuff. Things I’ve acquired over the years. Things I don’t really use but don’t feel comfortable getting rid of. At least not yet. But when the resentment of paying for storage space is stronger than the connection to the stuff then I will be free.

You speak truth. I certainly have been a slave to my stuff over the years. I would have had a much better life without it, but having acquired it at great expense I am reluctant to get rid of it and especially because I'd never be able to sell it for what I paid for it.

Anyway, the few times I did get rid of something I needed it shortly afterwards.
