There was an article about the convictions of the "rioters" on Al Jazeera this morning. Apparently the British prison system isn't capable of housing all the convicted "rioters" and has to let prisoners go before their time is served to fit the new ones in. Some are being held in police cells till there is space in prison for them before having their court case. While I agree that the situation is not good, the actual amount of resources committed to silly things like gender services as a part of the NHS would be tiny. The problem is actually that people have life threatening problems because they live unhealthy lives. They smoke, they eat too much bad food and do too little exercise etc. It will be impossible to provide enough medical services to keep up with the demand, without bankrupting the country. The solution is in people's own hands- live healthy, pay to go private or wait for a free service.

Pulling back to a defensive line is a completely normal military action. Given it was a long way from the front the Russian forces in that area would be second rate, and once the Russians bring up better troops I expect the situation to change. It's hardly been any time since the invasion, so why anyone considers the situation to remain the way it is are too hasty, IMO.
