  1. Thank you as I would like to believe my wife I was not sure how to proceed.

I am not sure whether paying any fee for a accident in a playground is really fair,

Interesting about the insurance I shall ask her.

Also I was thinking as verification should the family of the other boy not be obligated to provide some form of medical paperwork/photos

I am feeling bad here for not believing my wife 100% but in turn it just doesn't all seem to add up and I'm not sure where the some of 20k baht has come from?

    any more advice greatly appreciated

  2. Don't know is any one can help or advise.

I have a rather tricky situation and I'm not sure if someone or someones wife here in the UK may be able to advise me.

My self and my wife have been married in the UK for one year and we have a baby and my wife has a three and a bit year old son in Thailand.

Now the son still in Thailand has just started school and in turn has supposedly thrown a marble or something into a a child's face and this in turn has injured his eye, and guess what the injured boys family are demanding money to the sum of 20kbaht now I am trying to believe my wife but "sick Buffalo" springs to mind.

As we are married and have been bar a few ups and downs happy for the last year I'm not sure what to do.

I am refusing to give the money as though not a bank breaker is still some 450quid.

Also the money would appear to be plucked out of thin air as some form of allowance for the fact they will have to take there son to the hospital, well as we all know in issan thats a lot of donkey rides.

I guess what i want to know is

1, Do these things happen in Thailand where you have to pay apparently random demanded sums or not, as I can not see any logic to where this plucked sum of money has come from (bar the fact I'm English).

    2. I will happily pay more than that if i have to use a solicitor not to pay the family any thing (as if true they are just two kids in the playground and i think that kids are kids=sh+t happens)

    3. Also if true can i get a letter drafted from a solicitor in order to get the people to go away.

    4. Also do they or can they get the police involved

    thanks in advance

  3. Ok sorry If im being thick but im trying to get my head round this,

my wife came here on a spouse visa which lasted for six months then she gets a FLR which lasts for two years

in that two year period she needs to do her life in the uk test or go to college, then she at any time once she has completed one of these two things she can apply for ILR, which will enable her to stay in England for as long as we want and in turn not have to apply for a further visa until we decided to go for passport e.t.c

    Is this right ???

  4. Thank you

Time wise it was about spot on 16 weeks and I put it all in the post on about the 5th of October I think.

I Think I am right in saying that you can only apply for citizenship after you have been here for three years but I was not so sure about the ILR.

If we can apply for it now then I guess we may as well do it as soon as she has done her Life in the UK test can any one clarify if this is the case ?

    thanks bread

  5. At last we got after 16 weeks of waiting our visa and passports back through the post which is great

and now I have some more questions

    1. It seems to indicate that we can apply for ILR after my wife has been in the uk for 2 years, not 2 years after she has now been granted FLR is this the case ?

    2. What docs will I need to get/keep for the next two years?

    3. What is the maximum amount of time allowed out of the UK between FLR and ILR

    4. Can I still get child benefit e.g. tax credits and child allowance though my wife is 100% not entitled

as always thanks in advance bread

  6. Hello my friend well done well done charlie!!!!!

Yes I have been on the phone as 14 weeks was up, the response I got was "The application is being reviewed" in turn I asked time scale, when etc and the reply was.......yes you guessed it "the application is under review"

but hopefully with yours now coming through mine will not be far away I am defiantly going to pay the extra money and do it over the counter if that is possible next time !!!

Do you know what the criteria is for two years time e.g. max time out of the country, documents needed e.t.c as it will make it easier to have that in mind now.

  7. Can any one tell me what would be the normall way my wife wants to go back to thailand for a holiday she will be on FLR and is on a thai passport she will go back with my daughter who will be about 6 months old this may sound silly but if I go to the thai embassy and get my daughter a thai passport/birth certificate.

Do I also need to get a UK baby passport (is there such a thing and how do you get it)

  8. Wow what a long time it appears to take for the home office to process a FLR, has any one else received one back by post recently and could give me an idea on how long they were waiting that would be good.

I think I am just coming to my 6 maybe 7 week now and will soon be moving all my appointments, job centre (national insurance number) and the Thai embassy again.

  9. It will be ok mate

The other thing to start thinking of which I think alot people forget is finding out where the local thai eating places are and where the chinese/thia supermarket is, it makes life easyer also i would go and get some thai food for when she gets here (big points) eg. oyster sauce, nodles, rice, rice cooker etc.)

But as a say I wouldent worry mate sounds like you got the pre visa jitters it will all be fine.

Where are you in the country ? you never know may be able to point you in the right direction for some good thai food

  10. darren I would not worry,

Have you gone through the questions they are going to ask my wife was asked my mothers name where we where going to live what I did for a job e.t.c

Its rubbish lots of the questions she did not know the answer two as I dont see alot of my family so had never spoken about them eg. sisters name

As long as your paper work is ok there really wont be a problem also I dont think I have read one case that someone that had a genuine case on thai visa and had given the correct paper work being turned down.

I know its hard sitting in england waiting for you gf to do it (and if like mine some of the finer details of what they wanted to know got lost ) but it will be ok
