  1. I suppose Toyota employees should also get a brand new car for free!

Forced to eat noodles ??? I doubt anyone forced them. Do not like noodles go buy what you like!

Left overs food, as in unsold food! How is that leftovers??? Why should company put up a banquet for the staff?

Travel allowance? Is that a joke? Do not like to work or finish late, find another job!

Were paid ONLY 27 baht per hour?? Well that's ONLY the salary in Thailand . Are employees brain surgeons? Or highly educated staff ??

There is nothing unfair in removing those who disturb company operations. They used company time and money for their own agenda, further more they did not contact the management to voice their concerns prior to creating a problem .

If you ask me, nothing but 2 gold diggers trying to make some money.

KFC is a business and profits it makes is not an employees business . If employee has a problem with company profits, they are welcome to open their own.

Wow, 1 free meal a day and transportation allowance. wonder if they are hiring farangs? Forced to eat noodles, how many Thai's you know that DON'T eat noodles 2 or 3 times a day. They will go way out of their way to find a noodle stall. Any job that brings in more than 5,000 baht a month is a durn good job.

  2. "...government should focus instead on long-term policies such as transforming the country into a welfare state." This is a good thing? This is something you want to campaign on? This government really wants to turn a nation of extremely hard working farmers and a burgeoning middle class into a shiftless, lazy, welfare state of dependent, poor, uneducated citizens looking for a handout? The financial burden on the government and the subsequent tax burden on the wealthy and middle class and the required increase in the VAT tax will destroy this country in a few years.

It makes you wonder what this Somkid person is talking about. It sounds to me like he is taking a sort of round about communist line.

  3. "copying" the idea!!!!!........ ......

    is this a good one?

have Taksin studied thoroughly on "the taxi's credit card"? Nope.....i feel it

he will cause them more problems.

they need money management and lots of self-discipline before that.

say not everyone should have credit card(s)..

only fuel payment...... is it worth havin'?

the vat refund is ok... will support

    whatta hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

police and scam other police! Buying Post........

I know very few people who are cautious when it comes to credit cards. The Thai's are no exception. Taxi drivers, whoa nelly. This would create a major problem. Most taxi drivers I know don't have a 100 baht in their pocket. How would they ever pay for their charges? Looks good, smells bad.

  4. I think we should have a Thaivisa "Most Wanted" gallery - as so many of them seem to end up here.

The police are missing a trick if they're not circulating these 'wanted' photographs amongst the expat forums in all the likely countries.

The Thai police miss a lot of tricks. They already think they know everything, why would they ask help from farangs. Face .. above all. :whistling:

  5. after reding this article i can say that it is very provably that PTP is going to win the elections.

Interesting that the article fails to mention one possible scenario, that is the election of a government not to the liking of the military. The omission is even more interesting as in another thread on this forum, the same journal says they are monitoring the statements of the head of the army on a daily basis - a peron they desrcibe as "having coup making experience".

'The Nation' has previously warned that yet another coup would not be good for the country. It is strange, that in the context of an article headlined "Post-Election Possibilities Do Not Bode Well for Thailand Stability",they passed up this opportunity to remind everyone why that is. Perchance they have changed their view on this.

Yes, when your talking Thai politics, you can never exclude the military.

  6. Some interesting ideas though sounding a bit far fetched to me. I love the way Thaksin speaks with the assurance and confidence of an economic guru that seems contemptuous of the world's best (are other countries really struggling because of high taxes - Sweden, Denmark, Norway for example, with the highest standard's of living in the world).

You forgot to mention Ireland with its low company tax etc....maybe Khun Thaksin does not read the same press/media as you and I do

Yes, both points about the taxes I have to agree with. Ireland really is up the creek.

I have to question his motive for making visa applications easier. Is he trying to soften the stance of all the expats? I believe that Western opinion of Thaksin has to extent influenced some Thai people's opinion of him, especially those (Thais) who have daily exposure to Farangs. He hates us, he knows we see past his nonstop barrage of lies, and he knows we share our opinions with the electorate ....

Which "Farangs" are you speaking for?

It doesn't matter a rat's arse what Farangs think or do, since they have no vote (thank Buddha).

Why are so many afraid of this man's influence?

He is the only voice I have heard that seems to offer a vision.

Who else in Thai politics offers a vision of a modernistic future for this medieval society???

Yes, but his "vision" is all smoke and mirrors. He will say anything and does say anything to try and get back in power. Every time he opens his mouth, he lies.

  7. Foreign companies understand the "situation" in third world corrupt countries where labour is inexpensive and there are loads of legal loopholes where they can save money. They factor in the corruption. Once this becomes too expensive to maintain a healthy profit they move out to the next third world nation who is crying out for the opportunity to get it's ruling elite rich off the spoils via corruption.

The problem with becoming a first world developed nation is becoming competitive, as you no longer have the cheap labour and bureaucratic loopholes of a third world system. So one has to ask yourself. If the cost is the same for a company at home who wants to manufacture goods, why manufacture them in Thailand? Thailand's success is due to it's third world status, bureaucratic loopholes, cheap labour force and unfortunately corruption, which allows business practices which are not possible elsewhere.

Personally, I think the first stop in getting Thailand to progress is education. They need to get this right first.

I agree whole heartedly. Education is the key. If you can get education on the top burner, where the common people of Thailand has some idea of what's really happening in the rest of the world, things will change.

  8. Did anyone here know Phra Gordan? I was taken to his temple last year, but he was gone somewhere and never got to meet him. I was just talking about him three days ago and went to see if I could chat with him on e-mail and found out he died April 20th.

  9. I live in District 7 in Ho Chi Minh City, also called South Saigon.

This should give you some idea.

I live in new 2 bedroom, two bathroom house with open plan living, kitchen, dining room in a quiet, friendly residential cul-de-sac. I pay US$550.

An apartment in Phu My Hung, also in District 7 would range from $350 - $700 depending on size and furnishings.

Serviced apartments in town go for up to $2,000.

A villa or big house could be $1,500 - $5,000.

My electric bill for a small house, living alone, is 600,000 - 900,00 VND per month. ($30 - $45), depending on use of air-con.

Water is about $3 per month.

Internet with reasonable speeds and free unlimited downloads is 400,000 VND ($20).

Draught beer in an expat bar is $1.50 - $2.50 for a small one.

Cooking at home, you could live on $500 per month, but you wouldn't have a great social life.

    Hope that helps.

    What's the visa situation like?

  10. Sweet Justice served. I hope the poor tour guide doesn't get shit for this. If the reports are true, it ~IS~ self-defense. I mean c'mon... How many tour guides shoot their hosts dead in this country?

But the dead dong being "Yakuza"... Someone's gonna want retaliation... :(

wait a minute. what was the tour guide doing with a gun. was he allowed to have a gun? and the one guy was shot in the back? there's a lot more to this story for sure.
