  1. Thailand does have casinos, only they are owned by untouchables and therefore do not officially exist. They only make the news when they are raided because of a dispute between them. The country does not have official casinos as that would damage the business of those who lurk in the shadows. Any talk of establishing legal casinos is quickly forgotten as in the recent proposal to open them in Chonburi.
  2. So many Thais are morally bankrupt. The only thing that matters to them, no matter what, is money. That can buy or solve anything, including possible kidnapping.
  3. Yet more brain-dead Thais who sell illegal content on social media, and are no doubt shocked when police show up at the door. They simply cannot comprehend that if potential customers can see their posts then so too can the authorities.
  4. Nice company the unelected by the people PM keeps. Has he booked his flight to Pyongyang yet?
  5. There are so many comments in this thread about it being just another money-making exercise. Yet nowhere in the article here, or in the link, is there any mention at all of passengers being charged more if they are heavier. Not. One. Word. It is about weight distribution. The movement is an effort to save fuel. I'm not an expert but to me, and others who have commented, that appears to be rubbish. This passenger weigh-in measure, initiated today, allows airlines to distribute weight more effectively on international flights, thus reducing fuel usage.
  6. A very good point. Perhaps they'll give 'victims' a second pack of peanuts as compensation. Or, if it's a Thai airline, a small bottle of chicken essence.
  7. Utter nonsense. They haven't brought in any new rules yet, and you just made up that it is a reason passengers are giving up on THAI. The second paragraph, which you clearly don't understand (maybe English isn't your first language) refers to foreign airlines. Air Asia and Thai Lion are simply asking for passengers to volunteer to be weighed. There is no mention at all of THAI being involved. How did you tie this article to THAI and bankruptcy?
  8. class acts these taxi drivers eh.... Certainly cleverer than him.
  9. Aren't people wonderful. Morally bankrupt, exploiting those already suffering.
  10. So many roads all over the world are poorly lit. That's why vehicles have headlights. It also helps if the driver is vigilant and drives at a speed appropriate to the conditions (dark means drive carefully)
  11. Thais are perfect and never do anything wrong, so of course she was upset at your not accepting Thainess. I remember having lunch with my wife and her brother. He and I both ordered the same thing. One meal came and I let him start. Mine came only after he had finished. We asked the waitress why they could not have been delivered together and she burst into tears. You have to accept that many Thais act like petulant children, something they picked up at three years old and will never grow out of. That is also Thainess.
  12. Why have the mods not deleted this nonsense? It's been up for 18 hours as I write.
  13. How do you leave a car running without the key inside the car? True. So she only left the car with the engine running with keys left in the car for anyone to steal. Hmm.
  14. Why was the mother not able to unlock the car? Did she not only leave the engine running and car unlocked so the toddler could leave the car, but leave her keys inside the car as well? Darwin Award candidate.
  15. How can you possibly understand someone who deliberately blocks an ambulance? And it happens often in Thailand.
  16. But.... According to the Phuket Express report, the authorities have not revealed the identify of the bike rider and have not confirmed if he will be charged with blocking the ambulance.
  17. And all for just 300 baht. Unbelievable. She claimed that she had nothing to do with the gang and that she was paid Bt300 to open the account in question.
  18. Come on! Thailand is a democracy where people vote for the government of their choice. Of course the reality is that, despite what the voters want, they are given the government that a non-elected 'committee' says they should have. So, democracy in Thailand is - different. Just another English word that Thais don't understand, like mansions for blocks of one-roomed apartments, resorts for short-time rooms along the highways, mafia for small-time hustlers etc
  19. Logically, it should be the other way around, with those married to Thais a shoo-in for permission to live with their wife with minimal fuss. Retirees have no such justification for an extension and their reason for a long-stay is arguably less justified as they may not support a Thai family. Also, again without logic, you don't need to be retired to get a retirement extension.
  20. I had the same treatment earlier this year. The IO actually ignored me, as they do on a home visit, and spoke only to my wife, asking such nonsense such as do I have any brothers or sisters etc. We've been married for 32 years and living in Thailand together for around 27. But he's a nice chap and when I asked if the 'interrogation' was due to the recent arrest of over 100 IOs for being overly helpful to the Chinese, including at his office, he laughed and admitted it was and that the new boss had demanded it. Whether that was a temporary thing I'll find out next time I apply for my next marriage extension.
  21. My office has tried to get me to convert to a retirement extension, but I have no wish to tie up money to suit their rules. And we aren't the only ones who complain about too much paperwork. Immigration do too, which is why they try to get us to convert, but whose fault is that? Maybe they should campaign within the service to end the nonsense, and at the same time keep a digital record so the same info isn't demanded year after year after year after year. You know, join the 21st century. My sister in law and her Dutch husband live most of the year in Hungary. They both got five year visas with minimal paperwork and no need to renew every year, no need for 90 day reports, no bureaucratic nonsense at all. Thais like to have power over others, at any level. The entire social ladder is dependent on it. Hence the rules.
  22. Depends which office you use. Kalasin requires one set, even though applications are then forwarded to Khon Kaen.
  23. Me too. Especially as my talents - okay, talent - does not extend to learning another language. I am jealous of those who can. And so, living with a son or daughter I can't communicate with? As now with the nephew. He's been learning English for eight years and still can't put a sentence together, but still had his turn one month as best in his class at English. I guess, like me, his talents lay elsewhere. Actually, he's very good at drawing cartoon characters and I've suggested that should be encouraged. Falls on deaf ears, of course. I was wise enough to know that I don't have the patience to be a parent. I learned from my father how not to be a father and would have avoided his mistakes, but I know it wouldn't be for me. I can interact with a kid for only a very limited amount of time. Some would say it would be different if it was my own kid, but I don't think so.
  24. Plenty of experience. Including restoring power when a transformer blows up. And at any time in any weather. High fives to them indeed.
  25. I'm not actually interested in some fable that was written thousands of years ago concerning someone who defied science and was said to become alive again after being declared dead, with no possible means of judging whether or not it has any validity. But thanks for the comment. But, come to think of it, there are sometimes reports on here about people being carried to their cremation who are found to be alive, so.......
