  1. The airport handles only three flights a day, all by AirAsia. I can only guess why the airport went through a massive rebuild recently (the photo used in this thread is an old one). Same as Khon Kaen, which was fine as it was for the number of flights it handles but in that case was totally rebuilt. Very clearly there must have been 'incentives' for those involved to spend so much on something that wasn't necessary.
  2. Rumours is the one I buy, the red. Pretty decent to my uneducated palate.
  3. The teacher has reportedly expressed a willingness to apologise, according to the school principal. So he admitted his guilt.
  4. Despite being a teacher, you failed to fully understand what you read. The teacher has reportedly expressed a willingness to apologise, according to the school principal. So he admitted his guilt.
  5. And over-priced. I always tell any potential visitors to avoid it like the plague.
  6. What a strange sentence. Was that to check if he was of a high enough rank to carry out the assault?
  7. It is any wonder that any Thai 'qualifications' are not trusted by overseas universities or companies? I believe that US universities insist that Thais take an entrance exam, no matter if they 'appear' to be qualified. And I know a secretary who worked for a prestigious school in Sydney at which a couple of Thai brothers were studying. They failed their exams, insisted they be given passes otherwise Daddy would remove them and their fees from the school, and the school waved them goodbye. My wife also studied at a Bangkok university to teach English. She showed me an exam paper she was given, and on just one page there were around 15 errors. I corrected the paper, she gave it to the professor, who simply threw it in the bin.
  8. Many people have that kind of exchange with no help from narcotics 😄
  9. The post I quoted referred to farangs.
  10. I take your point, but I didn't actually seek out either. Tempted is not the same as taking it. I'm sure the effects of LSD would have been far more adventurous, more of a ride and - from all the tales at the time - far more mind-opening.
  11. There are so many things we have no way of understanding in this country. Two people, it is claimed, are found to be having sex in public, someone whose business it isn't calls the police who then, instead of taking them to the police station take them to a hospital, and then later don't know where they are. You couldn't make it up, could you.
  12. Yes. And if the person at the desk says 'Cannot" then ask to see the manager. I had a branch refuse even to give me a new passbook where I happened to be in one part of Bangkok, saying I had to go to my own branch. There wasn't time that day so I asked to see the manager and he okayed it. They can do things if they want to, but sometimes don't know how so tell you it's impossible. Often, it isn't. Just one of the pleasures of trying to achieve anything here.
  13. I suppose the farangs always have a way of avoiding that, by not smoking what is illegal. Simples.
  14. So weed will be illegal. except when it isn't. Okay. I confess to being ignorant about stems and roots and so on as I've never tried it, despite being a teenager in the 60s. Beer or wine or a G&T with ice and a slice always did it for me. Cannabis has been banned wherever I have lived or travelled, so I was never drawn to try it when legal stuff was available. The only thing that did tempt me was LSD, but you're never sure what reaction you're going to have with that. Can be scary.
  15. The very same couple that they "intervened with" and escorted to a hospital. no less 😁 Not sure if it's bad reporting or bad policing. Laugh a minute here, isn't it.
  16. LOL! TRUE! A one way street does not always mean the same for all Thais! What it means to a Thai is that they are only going one way, so what's the problem.
  17. Including on a one-way street.
  18. Second paragraph. Maybe you didn't read that far. Glad to assist. Authorities were alerted to the scene shortly after midnight, arriving to find a harrowing sight. If you want to be sarcastic then better to check what you're reading first. Dad
  19. This would not be confusing to a Thai. They're used to it. You no unnerstan Thailan sir.
  20. It's everywhere. WTF has happened to society. Things didn't used to be as they are now. It's as if the entire fabric of society has broken down in whichever direction you look.
  21. Grandparents who are probably barely able to take care of themselves, let alone a boisterous kid. The failure to raise kids properly - and we all have read how boys especially are allowed to do as they like - is a very sad reflection of the culture here.
  22. At after midnight they should be in bed asleep. Parents really don't care about their kids here, do they. No discipline, no rules. That's all too much trouble. There is so much violence in this country. These murders took place very close to where I used to live, and not far from where a motorcycle taxi gang were also involved in a deadly clash. I moved up-country, and the director of my nephew's nearby school was murdered by his wife as she thought he was having an affair. He wasn't. A man from the next village returned home to hide after murdering someone in the south. A woman in the next village recently murdered her husband. A man in a neighbouring village murdered a kid, shot him dead, for taking apples from his tree. Land of smiles, my a***.
  23. The sad thing is that there are so many other places/areas in Bangkok that could suffer the same fate at any time. This isn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last. Can anything be done about it? Probably not, except raze entire neighborhoods, and even many of the residents would prefer to stay where they are. Great to see the community pulling together. Reminds me of what I saw when I happened to be in London when the Grenfell fire happened. I went there 36 hours later expecting to spend 10 minutes and was there for over two hours. A photo is said to be worth 1000 words, but nothing can prepare you for the reality. It literally took my breath away. People still wailing, some sitting in silent reflection, so many helpers providing food and clothing. It's something I'll never forget. I imagine it was the same in this case, although no-one died this time.
  24. I think it's amusing that Thailand, which forbids any form of gambling, is talking - yet again - about opening casinos. Of course - yet again - the talk will go away when those in the shadows, who run the illegal casinos, remind those who threaten their income and pretend to condemn the illegal casinos also benefit greatly from them, with some law enforcement personnel even working for them in their spare time, as well as having the places hidden behind closed doors on speed dial to warn of any unwelcome visitors in uniform on their way.
  25. And no doubt they'll serve alcohol at the meeting 😆
