  1. I know quite a few very rich people who live happily in Thailand. Are you an economical refugee? It just baffles me that anyone would consider Thailand to be the best country in the world and the one to settle in when they could live anywhere. Buy each to their own. And to answer your question, no. I'm here because my wife is Thai and I want her to be near to her family. We all have to make a sacrifice or two, and that one has kept us married for well over 30 years.
  2. The thing is, I doubt that the threat of punishment stops any crime. Otherwise there would be no crime. My solution in this case would be to break his knees so he spends the rest of his life as a cripple. You know, to remind him of what he did.
  3. And although it's seen as a hi-so car in Thailand they are used as taxis in Germany. I love that. Oh, the shame, the humiliation, the loss of face. As for shortening things, normal in Thailand. Motocy(cycle), paracet(amol) etc.
  4. Do you have any figures, surveys or, you know, facts to back up what you claim? Or did you just make it up? I'd guess - guess, not claim are as you do - that 90% are the 'whatsoevers', which is normal people. Where are you, by the way, and if in Thailand which category do you fit into?
  5. Thanks for the links. The second has no connection to Covid, and there is nothing about your conspiracy theory that the government threatened medical staff with imprisonment if they reported deaths. But we'll let that pass.
  6. yeah like millions of other people that have a nice house or condo in Thailand, or drive a nice car, all of that stuff costs serious money here... This is always the dumbest argument people can bring on. I doubt very much that there are many mega-rich people, apart from Thais, who choose Thailand as the best place in the world to live. The type of people - the millions, you say - that live here are not in the same league as the OP claims to be. Not even close. They are normal and would almost certainly spend far, far more on a house in their own country. My old very average terraced house in the UK now costs close to a million pounds. There are not many people spending 40 million plus on a house here. Did you? So if any argument is dumb, it's yours.
  7. Do you have family? Would you joke about it if one of them, or you, lost their legs? Or is it only funny if it happens to someone else? What a pathetic human being you are.
  8. You have proof of this, and how many are we talking about? And where? If Thailand, the people have a very strong support system, whether at family or village level. Without proof of your 'secret suicides' I put your comment at the same level as the other you made in response to my posts.
  9. Yet another AN contributor who thinks that death and injury are things to make jokes about. Here's news for you - you aren't funny. Pathetic, yes. I'm glad not to know you.
  10. Did the customer complain about the service? Not a clever thing to do in Thailand.
  11. They always ask me when I do. Wasn't long ago I wanted to post something to Kalasin and the girl in the Nana PO asked me what country it was in.
  12. Takes one to know one. Actually, it doesn't. It takes someone with the intelligence to recognise it for what it is.
  13. He couldn't have lost control of a bike he was too young and weak to control properly, especially when it was carrying more people than it was designed for, could he? Someone should ask his parents, perhaps.
  14. Mercedes are, of course, used as mere taxis in Germany and elsewhere. I hope the Ihai hi-sos don't know that. Imagine the loss of face!
  15. There doesn't have to be justification for any rule in Thailand, other than it is the rule. Do you still need a passport to post a letter overseas, by the way?
  16. Someone who claims to be so wealthy and who could therefore live anywhere in the word chooses to live in a lawless and corrupt-to-the-core country with generally poor infrastructure? Come on! I suppose though you could be both very rich and insane.
  17. I thought this was going to be a thread about AN contributors. Should have been, as nearly all the comments made so far are abusive or a complete waste of time. We can't get along because a very long time ago people began drawing imaginary lines in the ground, recognised only by humans - not animals, weather or nature - and then said if you step over that line we'll kill you. And too many humans are violent by nature. They thrive on it. Look at all the movies involving death and destruction. And almost all video games are based on the same. People find violence exciting and an adrenalin rush - until it happens to them. We're a very weird species, and basically a failed experiment by some super intelligence out there somewhere.
  18. Rare to see people named. But then, the accuser isn't Thai. Of course, nothing will happen. And many questions unanswered, or not asked by red-hot Thai reporters. Has this been reported to the police or anyone else? The mother had all the necessary documents from the authorities, so what have those authorities got to say? Why did the scammer evade punishment last time? None of these questions raised by the spineless journalist.
  19. Exactly right. Along with the constant, repetitive and never-ending resurfacing of the promenade. Wouldn't you love to be a contractor in Pattaya. Of course, in other places the contractor would have to re-do a botched job at their own expense, but in Thailand? We have a similar situation in my neck of the woods, with roads having to be repaired or resurfaced every few months. Same situation, different locations. There are only two possible explanations - either Thais are monumentally useless at their job, or - well, you know. Or both.
  20. That is the kind of Chinese Thailand attracts, the cheap end of the market. Go somewhere like Dubai and you see a completely different kind of Chinese tourist.
  21. And bearing in mind that a road death occurs on average about every 30 minutes, and that 80% of those are on motorcycles, this is just one of a great many, most of which we never read about. Same with murders. One in the next village to me last week, no mention on this site. We only read the very tip of the iceberg.
  22. As I wrote, a crutch. Nothing wrong with that for those who feel they need it. But that is what it is. As for the universe, I imagine those who have faith that, in among the billions of stars and planets, someone is there looking over them ...... Well, we are really not that important and that 'being' might be busy elsewhere.
  23. We read such reports often, and it is always. always, a young Thai woman that is responsible. I suspect someone with the mind of a child who can't cope with what is expected of a grown-up. As for landlords, they should never leave a tenant to do who knows what in their property, and should visit, by appointment, every now and then. To collect the rent in cash is the perfect excuse to do so. Not only does it ensure the rent is paid - in such cases as this and in others it usually isn't - but ensures all is well. If the tenant doesn't have the money and/or isn't allowed inside then alarm bells are rung and the landlord can act accordingly.
  24. What has God got to do with anything? Except as a crutch for people who need an imaginary friend, I suppose. Anyone, even those without that crutch, hope to pass on without pain. Nothing to do with believing in God.
