In the sister-in-law's case, she's had three kids. Maybe a fourth when she was working in Japan as a 'waitress' before being deported for overstaying her visa. He made a couple of visits to Thailand and was a nice chap - I've never met a Japanese who wasn't a nice person - and bought her a house in Bangkok, and a car. She got rid of him though. Her second (or first) sperm donator was Chinese and worked as a tour guide. She married him for awhile but they split after having a daughter who went to live with him. Her third (or second) sperm donator was a one-night stand with someone she met on-line. That son is now at uni and living between terms at his mother's empty house. The fourth (or third) sperm donator was her second husband, a Australian-based Brit. She lived with him in Oz for a while, before divorcing and he has since died. Their kid lives with us. She now has husband number three and they are too old now for her to have another kid to dump. He's Dutch and was going to live with her in the village. But he decided he'd had enough of dealing with the immigration nonsense here so he and she live mostly in Hungary now, where he bought a cheap house. They were both given a five year visa straight off, and he doesn't have to annually ask for permission to live with his wife and report to the immigration police every 90 days as if he is a criminal on probation. She's happy enough to not live in her messed-up country, and not have the burden of caring for her own kids.

Judge denies Trump’s attempt to delay Jan. 6 civil lawsuit
Bangkok Barry replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Why are so many Americans unable to understand that politics and the courts are separate things. The laws that are there have existed long before any current politician was elected. No democrat has suddenly come out of the woodwork to pass them to 'get' Trump. The laws were there and Trump is accused of breaking them and he has the right, like any other citizen, to defend himself in court. But it appears that his rabid supporters want those long-standing laws not to apply to him. It isn't for them to decide if he is guilty or not. It is up to a court and, in some of the many cases against him, a jury.- 33 replies

Many have children as a future insurance policy to take care of them when they get old, in place of a government system (pension of 600 baht a month. Wow!). They don't have any interest in raising them and quite often dump them on elderly grandparents who can barely take care of themselves, let alone a kid. Many are certainly not parents in the Western sense. We have a 13 year old nephew living with us while his mother lives most of the year in Hungary. It's the culture. And I wasn't even asked about him living with us. I was just told it was happening.

Disappointment in Srettha’s Putin Phuket invitation
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Would you care to read the newsletter headline again? Putin accepts Srettha’s invitation to visit Thailand But, of course, the article says no such thing. More of what we are not allowed to call what it is, without risking 'a holiday' from the site. -
Condition for Using Digital Money Changed from Distance to Area
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
They haven't made it complicated enough yet so they are already changing the rules before it's even implemented. If it was simple - here's the money. spend it how and where you like - is un-Thai. There has to be be a long list of cans and cannots to ensure Thainess. -
You posted on the 18th. You leave Thailand on the 26th. You are in Bangkok and ask if you can return to Hua Hin to do the report. You have a week before you leave. You have time to return to Hua Hin if necessary, but you say you don't have time to do the report on-line. None of what you write makes sense.

The human race doesn't work that way. Never has, never will, until it implodes and destroys itself. Which will happen, sooner or later. No-one or nothing will miss us, especially nature which we'll no longer destroy. It's interesting to think that ants will outlast us.

Their IPA is the nearest I've found to a good English beer. Not easy to find, though.

Ambulance driver probed over snack stop during emergency
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Central Thailand News
Yes. Just another article bout nothing. Unethical behavior, yes, but hardly newsworthy. The headline suggests that the driver stopped for a meal, but if we call it what is is we get 'a holiday' for mentioning the word. -
The Cheers Weizen beer is, in my opinion, far superior to Snowy. I'd even suggest it is up to European standard. When I discovered that I had to have another due to the shock. They do a mango one too that I bought by mistake, and even that was half decent although, of course, rather sweet. My preferred Thai beer is Tapper at 6%. Leo 8 comes in at number two.

I would have agreed with you about American beers a couple of decades ago, but there are countless small producers of craft beer now. How widely they are available, I have no idea. But some of Europe has the best beers - Czech, German, Belgian. I haven't sampled Serbian.

Police Chief To Find Out Whether Thaksin Feigned Illness
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And that is why he isn't making any decision himself but has asked others to investigate. New broom sweeps clean, perhaps, although I doubt it. -
Reckless driving causes 1.2 million baht BMW motorcycle crash
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Thais believe that yellow lines are just for decoration, whether on the road or the side of escalators. The fact they are there as a warning would never occur to them. Having said that, the errant pickup clearly didn't actually encroach onto the wrong side of the road, but drove onto the lines. His fault was trying to overtake the bike when there wasn't room to do so. -
Not easy no money no id. Read the link! As a response, the Phuket Tourist Police provided the British man with temporary accommodation and arranged for him to travel to Bangkok. They coordinated with Phuket Bus Terminal to secure a seat on a bus heading to the capital city, enabling him to reach the British Embassy and arrange his return journey.

Ah, if only you bothered to read the link. As a response, the Phuket Tourist Police provided the British man with temporary accommodation and arranged for him to travel to Bangkok. Why are video games so often blamed for mass shootings?
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Reading books is a passive occupation. Shooting everything in sight on a screen is not. Very different thing. But as for the developed world becoming less violent, yes. A quick check says that is so. Interesting. It seems to me though that random and mass killings are always in the news, so I can't imagine what things were like before. Social media has revealed a remarkable and depressing intolerance for others points of view, so perhaps people letting off steam with a keyboard has replaced some of the physical violence. -
Why are video games so often blamed for mass shootings?
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I believe that in some cases video games might be a contributing factor. They are built on the thrill of killing and/or aggressive behaviour, and there is a danger in the mentally unstable, and you appear to know several who fit into that category, that the line between fantasy and reality become blurred. Killing or driving recklessly, in their damaged mind, becomes the norm if done to excess. And there are plenty who do play these games to excess, spending hour upon hour 'killing'. Humans can be very fragile mentally and can lose touch with reality, as you have experienced. -
Why are video games so often blamed for mass shootings?
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That was born out of the easy-going, be cool man attitude of the 60s. Those who grew up surrounded by that became parents, who passed on the lack of self-discipline attitude to their kids. -

And I have no doubt that there are Thais who drive as if they're playing a video game. Same thing - can't separate a game from reality. Killing or driving like a maniac just becomes normal to them. The human race thrives on violence and aggression, which is why most video games are based on it.
