  1. You missed this bit: The investigation also involves questioning the youth's parents about potential violations of child protection laws.
  2. It makes them feel important, having power over people. The whole of Thai society is based on that. Everyone has to bow down to someone higher up the social ladder. And if you wear a uniform then that gives you an automatic right to bully those you are meant to serve, in retaliation of themselves having to bow down to their superiors.
  3. So it's okay to wait 20 minutes in an airport security queue before embarking on an arduous 12-24 journey, but not before popping into a mall to do a bit of shopping?
  4. Same as a 'man' in the next village to me murdered his sister for not giving him money to buy drugs. Didn't read of it here, so who knows how much goes on that we never hear about. We only see the tip of the iceberg of what goes on here.
  5. Just a thought. Under diplomatic pressure, the Icelandic Government could possibly revoke the Thai owner's visa and deport him back to Thailand! I wonder what diplomatic pressure that might be? The mind boggles.
  6. Well, we could start with where, three days after police were given the license number, they've done nothing. Or the people having the government that is given to them, rather than the one they voted for. And so on. And so on.
  7. My wife says it's ok not to check everyone and their bag as they enter Siam Paragon because there are so many people, and they can't afford to have security at every entrance, and it was only a small gun anyway. She has two uni degrees but still has the logic of a four year old. One of those times I have to count to 100. Of course, if she was one of those shot she might have a different opinion.
  8. Just another two-week tourist with rose-coloured glasses. The authorities love them. Us .long-termers who know the truth about the country, less so.
  9. Especially when one was shot dead while shopping. Doesn't go down well, that sort of thing.
  10. Verbally abusing the judge doesn't get them on your side, ever. It does the opposite, as Trump did in saying he would make America great again while instead making the country a worldwide laughing stock.
  11. Well, I'm sure the poles were set in strong and deep concrete foundations, rather than sunk into soft soil. At least they fell down now rather than later when a puff of wind could bring them down.
  12. You no unnerstan mista. When speak to us no ploblem. No raining sir. Apartments ok.
  13. Did any roofs collapse during the recent record breaking deluge in and around New York? You know, a place where they know how to build properly.
  14. This link explains exactly what double taxation is and which countries have an agreement with Thailand. Many of us will be from countries on the list, but it doesn't include France. How it will actually work, I have no idea. According to the link there are various ways of operating it. https://www.belaws.com/thailand/double-tax-agreements/
  15. Plenty of comments from the authorities about how well security responded, their training regime and so on. Did any reporter ask how, then, someone managed to bring a loaded gun onto the premises? No, I thought not.
  16. What has a Thai restaurant owner throwing a Thai out of his restaurant got to do with the Icelandic government? And what does the Thai government expect that government to do (apart from laugh, that is). Expel him? Idiotic.
  17. And so are the security guards. I once stood outside the very entrance where video today showed people streaming from, and watched as many people went in the exit doors to avoid the scanners or just because they could, and the guard did absolutely nothing. Not unlike the MRT security guards who shine a torch for a nano second at a closed bag. It's a culture thing, as most Thais do not like confrontation. Not exactly a great qualification for a security guard, is it,
  18. That's because no-one in the world gives a rat's fart about Thailand. Check the number of people killed by Muslims in Thailand's south compared to the number who died on 9-11, for example. But anyway, those with a memory will remember the police officer, guardian of the peace, who murdered 22 children in a nursery, and the soldier, guardian of Thai people's freedom and security, who murdered 29 in a shopping mall.
  19. I've read many times that, based on population, Thailand has double the number of gun deaths compared to the USA. In Thailand, though, where we are told in books and TAT literature that families are so close, the shootings are usually family-related.
  20. Around 26,000. Perfectly adequate for me and wife and six dogs, covering electric, car expenses, food including expat stuff, IPTV etc. More very occasionally, like just spent 28,000 on a new aircon unit to replace a 10 year old unit that was failing.
  21. I certainly don't need $2,500 a month to live on. Not even $1,000. Depends where you live and if you own a house, and so on.
  22. Any of us, no matter how carefully we drive, can be snuffed out in an instant on Thai roads. Just the way it is.
  23. The baht is indeed sliding, and I'm ecstatic that yesterday I received 100 baht more when I did my usual monthly transfer from the UK than I did last month, and last month was 100 more than the month before. That 200 baht can buy me a beer in a decent bar - maybe
  24. That's happened to me as well. While on toilet talk, how about women cleaning the men's toilets while you're 'in progress', and at the old Thermae and, as far as I know still at Country Road on Cowboy, men and women use the same toilet area.
  25. I hadn't been in Thailand long when I went to a small shop to buy that days BP, and he wouldn't sell it to me as he hadn't sold out of yesterday's yet
