  1. a foreigner working on one's own land is not the problem - but the tractor: Do you have a tractor operating / driving licence ??

somebody who envies you about the tractor might take this to a case... special "gaan khaset" licences (operating farming machinery)

have to be obtained for tractors, caterpillers, excavators, combined harvesters, even for the 4-wheeled truck-like Isaan TukTuk

  2. "Meanwhile, domestic tourism will also expand by 3% next year with at least 91 million trips to be made by Thai tourists"

this increasingly is the half-drunk bunch on the roads when heading home for some holiday and, of course, plenty of

government officials, teachers and students who are TAT- induced to aimlessly travel up and down the country

  3. ... on the train down to Bangkok although the connection dies completely when you get to within about 1 hour of BKK - I guess CAT do not have the infrastructure and/or the necessary licences to operate in the BKK area

I run an Ovation MC760 on CATs CDMA, gives you true 3g on wireless internet with 1,7 Mbps up on VisaSpeedtest, but:

It only works in 57 provinces! After I came back from BKK some time ago & complained to my Khorat CAT people they

shamefully produced a photostat with the 57 live provinces, the remaining parts are no- licence areas for CAT. As a rough

indication, it works up north and in the south - it does not work in BKK, surrounding provinces incl. Chonburi/Pattaya and

further east. Going to BKK from the north, it blacks out in Saraburi already

  4. Does anyone know of any guest houses or other accommodations along route 226 (between Korat and Buriram)

there is a "Cabbages&Condoms" restaurant (maybe even some rooms to rent) in Chakkarat near to

where you turn left (when coming from Khorat) to Phimai. Even if they are full they will surely help

    with info on local accommodation

  5. if it is a new inhouse pump she should contact the supplier to assist. in case of an older, re-located pump

she will contact HomePro or DoHome - not for them to do the job but to recommend a suitable

    company.

if it is an outdoors pump (from a well into into the garden or paddies) then any neighbour can fix that

  6. Greetings, Any members know if there is a VIP bus between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani? If so, what is the Chiang Mai departure time and travel time. Would appreciate any help.

    excerpt from http://www.retire-asia.com/lao-travel.shtml:

Buses run between Chiangmai and Udonthani. Road distance is 850 km (520 miles) via Pitsanulok. Daytime and overnight VIP buses (aircon, toilet) run from the Chiangmai Arcade Bus Station, (about 600 baht or $18) to Udon Thani main bus station; continue to Nongkhai and the Mekong bridge by regular bus or minibus. There are also flights between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani

  7. apparently, you're thinking about a PlanB already ... seems you're not depending on travel partners

or a rented flat or the like: If so, just come here first, check the situation n make an adhoc decision
