Can he obtain this extension at Khon Kaen Immigration office on Monday - delay?

Wife's sister visiting with her UK husband. She has Thai passport, he has UK.

He wants to stay 3 or 4 days longer  than the 30 days he got on arrival.

Told him he can just pay the fine at immigration at the airport when checking in for flight. Now 500 Baht a day?

Read somewhere this is equivalent to surrendering and not a problem, but if caught in a street check it is breaking the law. This could be serious.

He is worried.
