Can I leave Thailand and get a new Non-B sometime next week without doing the steps mentioned above?
No. Because your old employer must inform them that you are no longer working with them. Immigration will need that letter with a date on it to type into their computer when your work permission ended.
I recommend that you ask your current employer to end your employment in 3 weeks time in the future (the maximum length of time in advance you may apply for a new work permit and visa with a new employer).
Your new employers then have three weeks to get the paperwork together to make the application. Press them to put the paperwork together.
My memory is, counter-intuitively, you need the visa before the work permit issued. This necessarily means there is a period when you are working without a work permit.
It follows you should apply for a re-entry permit with the current visa. Do not use leaving and entering the country as a way to deal with this issue.
(I would be interested in feedback on my suggestion)

The key moment of decline was when they all but abandoned trying to provide a serious cheese selection. It is 10 years+ since they stocked French Heritage Camembert, the greatest cheese to have existed. Now, a pack of processed cheese sandwich slices is the best you'll find.

If they diverted even half of the funds siphoned off by the army
The military budget 2022 was 6,300 million dollars.
The number of pensioners in Thailand is 12.11 million.
If half of military budget was given to the pensioners that would mean 21 dollars per pensioner per month. Around 711 baht extra.
I guess better than nothing.

Expenditure on refugees inside the UK was in 2021, £898 m. That money was obtained by simply reallocating development aid funds that were intended for outside the UK.
The pension by contrast was 104.5 billion in 2021.
Not only have the refugees not cost a single penny more than was allocated in the general fund for development aid abroad, they are little more than a rounding error compared with the high cost of pensioners.
In fact the burden of pensioners is far greater, since prioritising their health crippled the country during Covid, and their voting inclinations for Brexit decimated the economy by a far greater sum than a mere billion..

Wealthy Thai Chinese families have for generations sat on land paying a little or no tax. It's positively criminal
I can recall discussing the concept of inheritance tax with a taxi driver many years ago. Since back then there was no inheritance tax in Thailand and no discussion of it, there was a crashing noise as the scales dropped from his eyes.
Part of the reason why the Thai population is so placid, docile and pleasant is because the wealthy elite very carefully limit any discussions of welfare benefits and redistribution of wealth.
Buddhism, in contrast to the early revolutionary creed of Christianity, also encourages docility and acceptance of the social structure. Just accept your lot in life. Hope that you are reincarnated as a robber baron as a reward for your merit in this life.

Same here in the US. I live in a huge city and older people are living on the streets.
USA is considerably more unequal than Thailand, coming in at the 47th most unequal in the World.
This is only possible because of massive levels of government propaganda to support the extreme neoliberalism.
This incapacitates Americans from noticing, by telling them how evil the alternative of "socialism" is, or deflecting blame by pointing out Mexicans "r takin' r jobs".

Correct.
Thailand is the 98th most unequal country in the World. South Africa holds the dubious distinction of being number 1. Even "Communist" Lao comes higher than Thailand. The UK is... 94th.

Thailand, in line with many countries around the world, is getting older.
State Pensions found in European countries are staggeringly expensive; in the UK, welfare benefits are a rounding error compared with the cost of State pensions. And the problem just increases as the elderly portion of the population increases.
The only possibilities for even wealthy Western countries are to either cut pensions, place the burden on their children or raise the age of entitlement.
It is implausible that Thailand can do anything except a very modest increase in the pension.

New info.
In response to the Singapore Court's demand for an update, Zipmex has just informed the court that V Ventures, the potential buyer ("Subscriber"), will now only provide 10 cent or 20 cents to the dollar for the creditors. They had previously promised 100%.
V Ventures is doing this in response to what it believes was the unilateral decision of Zipmex to not include Thailand Zipmex in the scheme of arrangements at Singapore Court, and secondly the failure of the management of Zipmex to sign off on the Management Arrangement scheme.
Zipmex are currently negotiating with them, and also with a couple of other potential buyers because of the desperate nature of the situation. They have also requested that the court again extend the moratorium.
This ploy by the buyer was predictable, and should not be rewarded. Even if the creditors get less, an agreement with anybody but V ventures would now be best.

The shots were free when I got them in Bangkok.

Final extension for Zipmex was granted by court until 23rd April.
It is a complete mystery to all media and the SEC as to whether the deal is on or not. Zipmex and V Ventures have been silent.

I really want to know the Thai expression for this. I don't even know the British expression for this.

Is he a rentee? A co-rentee? A lodger? A licensee?
It sounds like he is the latter. So if Thai law is like English law, then an oral agreement of reasonable notice (a week?), and then the police will come and remove him.

He appears to be suffering from a hoarding disorder . This is a sign of a serious mental issue and it might well be owing to depression or schizophrenia and so on. The best route ahead will probably involve SSRIs and cognitive behavioural therapy. But you need to get him to a doctor.

Your friend chose Thailand's most expensive hospital. Soi 1 is Bumrumgrad; its name generates shivers in insurance conpany boardrooms.
Clearly he did not simply sleep for three nights. He must have been in intensive care and a very difficult and challenging case. I would like to hear the breakdown of that price tag.
But still... why that much? Is your friend Arab-looking?

went out on his moped for some food in the middle of the night in Bangkok
By reading other reports it's apparent that this newspaper report is probably wrong on several important parts of the story.
It looks like the accident happened on one of the islands, and that he ended up in the hospital chain called "Bangkok Hospitals".
It's also clear from other newspaper reports that the insurance company has not only refused to pay the repatriation costs but also all the surgery costs. This is significant as the grounds for refusing repatriation costs are much more extensive than the grounds for refusing the surgery costs.
Most travel insurance will not cover scooter accidents. These reasons will vary from him not having a motorcycle licence, to riding a motorcycle being classed as a dangerous activity and not covered by standard travel insurance, to not wearing a helmet. Reading other reports I'm not convinced the reason for refusal is the failure to wear a helmet.
As usual, it is important to take the information in these reports with a giant grain of salt.

Bonus: The RE desk stamps you out for immigration as well so no waiting in that long line
I've used it dozens of times, and they've never stamped me out. But they do allow you to partially cut the queue so that there should be no more than 5 or 6 people ahead of you.
I think it's better to pay the service charge because I've noticed that if you do it yourself, then at the 'consideration'/ processing area they take slightly longer. In any event, shouldn't take less than 5 minutes, and more than 25 minutes.

I invite you to think of the consequences.
What are the consequences for social solidarity when you can't see the other person? Do we need social solidarity? Do we need society? Can't we just sit in our rooms alone, munching cheetos and date AI chatbots? Why do we even need to communicate with other humans? Why not upload ourselves and escape our meat bodies? Why not become Skygods?...
In other words, your dismissive "what's the problem?" is exactly the problem. There is always a problem.

1. Get your prescription from the best eye hospital in your city. Make sure this includes the pupillary distance (PD) as that is often forgotten but is necessary for an order over the internet
2. Order the glasses over the internet with Zenni, using their convenient App
3. Express surprise and delight at the high quality, the speed of delivery and the incredible cheapness of the product, next time you use the Thaivisa forum

We actually need to see less military production nationalism. As an example, the current problem in Western Europe is that the countries are unwilling to purchase/research new tanks unless they are domestically made/designed tanks.
Poland has ruthlessly, in contrast, chosen to purchase an enormous quantity of Korean tanks. And Ukraine is attempting to get a German manufacturer to stick a new factory in Ukraine. Meanwhile, France, Germany, and the UK are struggling to produce enough tanks for their future needs.
BAE working together with other countries' companies with similar values, is a good thing. Aircraft research and production is simply too expensive for one country.

I didn't know this, but according to an announcement (in tiny writing and in Thai) on the SmartQueue DLT App, so long as you have completed the e-learning course, and you are simply seeking to renew the licence, there is no requirement to book a Q number; you can walk straight in.
I should also point out that no proof of address is required if you have a work permit.
End of life regret?

What isn't mentioned here but which relates specifically to people with regrets on their deathbeds:
What is quite fascinating but is something the dying will only quietly mention to academic researchers is the distancing from the loved ones in the final days.
Despite the impression that the "Disney death", where a huge family surrounds the dying person, and they go gently into the night, it turns out that is not what the dying person is thinking.
In fact, they are preparing for the next journey. Wherever they are going it is not with their family or close ones. They are preparing in their head to distance themselves from their family. You are their past.
The family being around the bed with them is quite awkward for them. This is obviously such a taboo that even close to death they will not mention it. But could be reassuring to any members who have no family with them now.
