  1. So, Thai villagers can vote to eject someone from their village, presumably led by some chump of a headman. The only things missing are a set of stocks, a ducking stool, and a 20 foot wicker man.

I wonder if the people of the village and the headman who voted them out, know that more than likely a lot of them are probably suffering from Hepatitis, Tuberculosis or any of the multitude of infectious diseases that are in all villages and cities of Thailand, not only their village. They being easily led and uneducated would not know what HIV or AIDS was and don't know the difference between the two, let alone what any of the other infectious diseases are that they already have. I think this is also a follow up on something else I read where a Monk was scamming in Lop Buri taking people on tours through the HIV/AIDS hospital there and asking for donations for their pills, but not buying any and letting them die. I believe the Government was looking into the scam.

  2. Going back later when the queue is shorter could result in the bike being taken away to the compound in the meantime, before you have paid your fine.

Yes, and the cost for getting it out of the compound will probably be quite a bit more than the fine which he will still have to pay anyway. sad.png

And after they have booked you for not having a bike licence, sad.png you immediately pay the fine, smile.png get your key backthumbsup.gif and ride off.w00t.gif Don't make much sense does it, "O" well.coffee1.gif

  3. I spoke with a friend of mine re travelling from Pattaya to Hua Hin return, he said there was a large Ferry that did this from the Pattaya Pier.

Can anyone confirm this and any idea of the time it takes and the fare, or if you have used it?thumbsup.gif

  4. The Military are the ones that had the arrest warrants issued by the courts and they, the Military are awaiting a heap more warrants to be issued when they do a bit more investigating into this and other matters.

I believe the Military should set up a Internal Investigation Unit (IIU) that has the Power to Investigate any Government body. They should have separate offices in each Provence and be able to link up to their internal branches. They should be given absolute power to investigate any and everyone. This head person should be picked from the military and he in turn pick his own investigating officers, one he can trust. They have been doing the work and so far have come up with the goods. Corrupt Prison Officials, Police, Government, etc the list goes on. They probably have stiff penalties for people employed by the Gov that are found to be corrupt in any way or form, it just has to be enforced.

Did you miss the bit when the military imposed martial law six months ago, seized power and imposed an interim constitution which basically says the law is what they say it is.

No I did not miss that I was here at the time and it happened on my Birthday 22 May 2014.

What I am talking about is a special branch being set up with goodies and no baddies. They should then become separate from the Military and have the power I mentioned above.

As a matter of interest, in the B/Post where it mentioned two others were arrested, it also states, the arrest warrants were issued by the Bangkok Military Court, not the Public Courts.

If the 'goodies' were that easy to spot then Thailand would probably not be in the mess it is now.

Ahh but we cant look at the past, we must look at the present and future of Thailand and there is a new boy in town, who I must admit although a bit slow, has made a difference in the last 6 months.

Currently there are a heap running for cover.

  7. The next time this guy gets out of Remand, should be to go to court and then to maximum security, along with the rest of them and more to be arrested to join him. Especially the ones that stood over people and threatened and bashed them for money. I bet there are a lot of hard working Thais that are happy this gang is being rounded up. It's typical of these guys once arrested they admit what they have done and dob in all their mates. I reckon after they finally get this mob all arrested, they will need to build a new prison.

  8. In answer to you question, both of the bike riders were in the wrong as according to you, you were there first and one came up on your right and the other on your left. They had to give way to you. But that's the way Thais and some farungs ride bikes, you see it at every intersection 100 times a day.

  9. I once went outside at night in my bare feet for a wee wee and fortunately heard the hiss of a cobra which was in the classic posture near where I was going to do it. Sucking on the wound is no longer advised I believe.

That's when the doctor told the nurse that is not advisable.cheesy.gif

  10. Going on what the OP said, they had plenty of time to talk to the store owner, the police officer who wanted a bribe etc and not one of them bothered to use their Video phone, which would have ended the whole scam in a flash. If the cop insisted on the cash before he gave the Passport back, take the video to Police headquarters in Bangkok and also put it on Facebook.

  11. Siren, siren - cover-up alert.

Obviously this is getting too close to home for certain people - and so is being closed down.

Only those too close to the last government can be targeted perhaps? While they are no doubt guilty as sin, what about the rest?

I think the key word is (YET) that is what he said, no arrest warrants have been written out or served yet.

So I reckon if any further info comes up they will be issued and served.

  12. Wait, wait - perhaps these ISIS guys turn out to be those "quality tourists" the TAT planned to "lure" in... smile.png

This Army Chief must be walking around with blinkers on and obviously is not getting any info from south Thailand, who ever is informing him of the southern situation, is about as handy as a wheel on a walking stick.

For a start Thailand is one of the country's that ISIS use as a stepping stone for it's terrorists to head to the bad lands overseas, as the last 4 brothers did from Australia.

  13. Some of the guys that are full bottle with your question will give you the correct info, but to my knowledge, yes you do have to get an Education Visa as you are going to teach as you have stated.

No, I'm not teaching. I'm taking Thai classes. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Well that's a different story, if you are only taking Thai classes to learn Thai, to my knowledge you only need a Non-Immigrant "o".

But as I said one of the guys full bottle will fill you in, more than likely ubonjoe he is on the ball.

  14. Take the bus from Pattaya to Mo Chit station, then a taxi from there to immigration, about 140 baht or so.

The above info is best, but make sure he turns the meter on. Some don't want to go there and make out they don't know where it is. When leaving, there will be about 50 or more Taxi's outside waiting for passengers, it's like Swampy Airport with Taxi's. That's why a lot don't want to go there as they have to wait ages for a fare. Bit of advice, get to Immigration early.

  15. Despite the occasional complaint posted, I have always found the Immigrations office at Jomtien to be efficient and helpful ... particularly if you have all your ducks in a row as you appear to have done. Make your application straight forward and organized and they'll handle it quickly and hassle-free.

Going for my 9th extension is a few weeks, so your report is very encouraging. Out of self-serving curiosity, did you go in more than 30 days before your current extension expired? I normally go in closer to 45 days early and have never encountered a problem with that, but there was a single rumor or rumor about a rumor about them only allowing 30 days early recently.

No I had to apply in Bangkok for a Non-Immigrant 'O' this time as I was naughty and did not get a Re-Entry on my last Retirement/Extension.sad.png

But further I went in today and handed over the Red Card and was handed my Passport with a Retirement stamp in it. It runs out on the 11 Jan 2016.

Had paperwork filled out for application for Re-Entry Permit, that was all done within a half hour, so now all back on track again.thumbsup.gif

I asked Immigration re your question above applying early or late. Currently you can renew your Extension there 30 days before, if you want to do it 60 days before, you apply to see the boss there with your airticket and he will approve an early application.

A bit of gossip from the horses mouth. On the 1st Jan 2015, the Military are replacing the current boss of Chonburi Immigration with someone else.w00t.gif The staff at Chonburi are a bit worried about their positions as this new guy may be bringing his own staff with him.ermm.gif

  16. My wife bought a True move H 3G+ WIFI. It is about the size of a small Nokia phone and can be used for up to 10 connections. Has its own internal battery that can be charged as you use it or you can connect it to your computer via USB of stand alone. I used it all over Thailand last month where we could not get a good connection from hotel WIFI connections. Worked like a charm. Cost of WIFI was about TB 990 with Air Card and TB699 for 6GB per month. Very fast any where we were. Can be topped up at any True shop.

    Mobile WiFi or MiFi.

I have a few of them, unlocked.

WiFi They have them at all True Move shops.

  17. Sorry but I'm a bit confused by your reply:

    1. I'm to go to a navy base on top of some hill and find some English speaking person to tell me where to find the cord?

    2. I'm to drive down to the international airport and ask them where to buy it?

Honestly, the chances of satisfaction at either of these approaches seems very remote to me.

I mean, it is difficult enough to find an associate in Big C who can direct me to the peanut butter.

    3. Seems okay but I have failed to notice any of these military stores despite living here 3 years and riding my bike around a lot.

    1. The Royal Thai Navy are on top, the highest point of Pratnmac Hill which is the hill between Pattaya and Jomtien, not hard to find or see from any direction around Pattaya or Jomtien. They do speak English.

    2. The Utapao Air Base is run by the Royal Thai Navy and they have heaps of aircraft there, where I would imagine they supply the pilots with parachutes, you know just in case.

    3. There are military stores in Pattaya and there is one on Siam Country Club Rd for a start. If you have lived here for 3 yrs and rode your bike around a lot? You don't take much notice of your surroundings or where the hill is.

    4. The Peanut butter is in the Farang section at Big 'C' as every one knows.
