We ate at Doo Dee tonight - I had ribs and hubby had burger. Both were superb with good service, good portion size and very reasonable prices. They do 'specials' Mon to Fri with a theme each night eg, pasta, stir fry, burgers for 200 baht including a small beer, wine or soft drink. We'll definitely be going back when we next have a craving for western food.

There's a shop in the lane where Somphet market is that has something similar, if not the same. It's on the left hand side about 70-100 metres from the market. They used to be on a stand outside.

Not all "western" countries add the tax. In the UK the price you see is the price you pay. Some restaurants sometimes include a 10% service charge but you can ask for it to be deducted if you prefer to leave a tip for an individual member of staff.

Being here for 7 months we can't bring that much cash! 12000 baht a time is the most we're allowed to withdraw from an ATM in a day. On the one occasion we went to the teller and asked to withdraw 20000 baht, she just escorted us to the ATM (where we could only withdraw 12000). She just shrugged her shoulders and went back to her desk.

Call your card company and ask for an increase on the card limit. That's who has your limit set at 12k baht not AEON or any other bank ATM machine.
We use a credit card for our withdrawals (our debit card has HUGE charges!). Will our credit card company increase our withdrawal limit on request?

Used the Aeon ATM at Siam Electronics yesterday. No charge....................
It started today apparently.

So that's that then - nowhere to withdraw cash without the 150 baht charge.
Unless someone knows better .....!

Personally, I wouldn't buy a secondhand Kindle. I've owned 3 and my daughter 2. All have died at around 18 months old. As you won't know for sure how old it is, you might not have it long before it becomes useless.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Kindle - that's why I've had 3! They just seem to have a planned obsolescence of around a year and a half but I use it every day and gives me a lot of pleasure and they're cheaper every time I buy one.

Parade and opening ceremony starts at 4pm today (Saturday) from Nawarat Bridge to Tha Pae Gate. It's a slow parade, so you can show up later.
Just picked up the schedule from the TAT office. This info is correct.

Rumour has it, 4pm but looking at the timestamp of our photos taken there 2 years ago, we were walking the parade route between 11.30am - 1.00pm.

We buy our spuds from Somphet market. Far better quality than supermarket spuds at home.

There's a shop about half way between Central Festival and Big C / Homepro which should fit the bill. I don't know what it's called as the signage seemed to be only in Thai.

Tesco Lotus Express Chiang Mai Thailand.
We just found a good little shop out the front of Tescos. We just needed a cheap mattress topper as me might not stay long.
2,800 baht delivered for a 2inch king size topper. Made our rock hard rented apartment mattress really comfortable.
Which Tesco Express?

Never free, but sometimes available!add a packet of ketchup to hot water......tomato soup.
We're looking for a cook. Are you free?
Very cheap to make, about 5bht for this tray of shortbread fingers.
Recipe please! Surely not 5 baht though, not if butter is used.
