  1. Nissan March EL 3 cylinder eng, 71 hp 106 torque, weight 960 kg ฿509,000 wheel base 2450 mm

Honda City S AT 4 cylinder eng 117 hp 146 torque weight 1065 kg ฿589,000 wheel base 2600 mm

Difference im price between the 2 cars ฿80,000

You will get at least ฿ 80,000 more than the March when you sell the car a few years from now .

Consider the ฿80,000 extra for the City money in the bank with interest and in the mean time you drive a much better car.

When we bought a Jazz, e considered a City, but comparing these 2, Jazz seems to be a better car, better build quality and better looking, in our opinion anyway. Jazz is also a hatchback so can fit more cargo. To me city looks like a cheap version of civic.

    Sent from a Nuclear Submarine.

The cheapest March is advertised at 388000 and there are quite a few versions before you get to 509000. The City and the Jazz may well be better cars but you will need to pay a little more

you are right in everything you say,

The reason we need a second car is because my wife does not like driving our Colorado diesel stick-shift truck, she wants an Automatic , easy to drive, but still able to handle long trips and seat 5.(I hate automatic even in the US I always drive stickshift)

So I looked at everything not wanting to part with any more money than I have to.

The difference in price between the March E and the EL is a little less than ฿30,000

but you get so much more in the EL , if I bought the March (not a bad car )I would certainly go for the EL for the small difference in price,

then I drove the Honda city,

No comparison, it feels like a real car, lots of room inside, plenty of engine power, and a trunk (boot ) that can hold all our luggage while still seating 5 adults.

The March is a nice car and Fun to drive, and if all you do is putter around the city, it might be a good option for some, but for those long drives from KKC to BKK or from KKC to Nong Khai with four in the car it would be..., well let's just say ,not good. and on the way back, no place to put any of the thing we bought while shopping .

If you have a few extra Baht sitting in the bank, and did not mind tying it in a car for a few years, it is a no-brainer , you will get all that money back plus interest when you sell the vehicle , as the Honda City has a much higher resale price than the Nissan March.

As far a styling is concerned I Think the CITY is fine. I have got to an age where I really don't care about styling, if all thing were equal, I would of course go for the, IMO, better looking car.

These Two were not the only cars I looked at. I Looked at everything in the price range, So far, IMO, for the money, The CITY stands out.

But if some one has a better option I am still willing to reconsider my positionsmile.png

If you want more space in the back,Almera is still the leader, bigger trunk and more legroom..more room than City and way cheaper... less power...sad.png ...but better FE smile.png

  2. Yeah, I read about this a few days ago. The main reason for the quick big change is that Toyota are suffering rapid erosion of market share in the biggest market, USA, as against Accord, Fusion and the new Sonata. It's a new world for Toyota (everywhere except Thailand where the sheeple never waiver). wink.png

    * I love this quote from a news article about the new change: "It's a machine for those that think of cars as an appliance." Toyota personified. (Though I love Lexus - and some Toyotas too)

..."It's a machine for those that think of cars as an appliance."...thumbsup.giflaugh.png

  3. That's pretty obvious about the U-turn that one have to yield to the other/upcoming traffic....but if you ride a motorcycle,or a car with no headlights on at night, you are not legal on the road and better use your logic and know, that you can't be seen...or you may be dead soon...and put the other driver in jail, for your negligence...it sucks does it ...

  4. I've had 25 years experience of driving here in Thailand from the very south to the very north, and I can assure you that in the event of an accident involving a Thai and a farang, irrespective if the Farang is in the wrong or not, the farang in 99% of the cases will be judged by both Thais and the police to be in the wrong.

I know of 3 accidents in the last month involving Farangs who were the innocent party, yet finished up paying, including one farang who left his car parked up at the side of the road, facing the correct direction. Which was then hit by a Thai coming from the opposite direction who lost control of his motorbike. Police verdict, Farang must pay.

It is possible that your friend was illegally parked on a red and white spot or out of hours.

You know of 3 accidents in the last month involving Farangs who were the innocent party, yet finished up paying. Life for you and your buddies here in Thailand, the persecuted and the oppressed, must be one form of living hell.

You must be a hard believer in ....thainess....

My car was hit by drunk motorbike rider while parked(!) legally(!) and when police asked him what happened,he said that....the car hit him!!!!...even the cap laughed...laugh.png

  5. Drunk driving is a criminal offense and killing someone whilst driving is manslaughter at least. Put the two together and they are culpable homicide. In the States or Europe you'd be looking at a 7-8 year stretch. Thailand probably 2-3years or a big payout before it got to court. Anyway I'd rather do a couple of years in a Thai prison than live in Russia for the rest of my life. The Russian Embassy will know who these people are and I am confident there will be resolution. Russian investors in Phuket or Thailand don't need the bad press.

Killing someone while driving is in now way automatically a.manslaughter offence. Have you ever driven in Thailand?

Drive 5 miles in heavy traffic and there can be 100 opportunities to hit a bike and be in the legal right. Undertaking, overtaking, weaving in and out, illegal uturns, no signals, no helmets, no lights, there is barely a legal motorcycle driver in Thailand by western standards.

But you are not in the West, so you have to adapt to the ways of the roads in Thailand, otherwise for those who find the types of driving here undiscerning, than I suggest they should use public transport or walk, because it`s not going to change in the foreseeable future.

Motorcycle users are a way of life in some parts of South East Asia and other types of vehicle users have to make allowances, because this is how it is.

There probably are multiple opportunities to smash into motorcyclists, but the art of being a caring and responsible driver in Thailand is having tolerance and avoiding them, or at least doing one`s best to avoid having any accidents, losing those Western attitudes and not assuming that motorcyclists are the lowest form of life on the roads and therefore those in other vehicles should have the absolute right of way.

"...But you are not in the West, so you have to adapt..."....looks like those Russians are doing good job at adapting...tongue.png

  6. Why so many drivers involved in accidents here do the runner?...one of them who 'surrendered' next day to the police (different case of course),have said, that he was afraid that the mob would kill him,if he stayed...and he was Thai...so,what could happened to a farang(not necessary Russian),if one would stay on the seen involved in deadly accident...I wouldn't chance it....better to do the runner,I guess...

  7. Anyway, with Songkran just around the corner this sort of thing will be happening all the time.

Just another Thai bashing thread, with the majority of posters having little sympathy for the boy.

Perhaps the boy`s family are reading some of these posts and I know how I would feel if it were a child of mine.

I strongly hope that it is you that will become a victim of a traffic accident during the festive period and I can be in the position to say; ah well, it was Songkran, tough luck.

RIP for the boy and my sincere and heart felt symphaties go out to the parents and families of the victim of this tragic accident.

If you were a parent, would you let your boy to go on the motorbike,in the middle of the night and without the helmet?....I am a parent and I would do everything to not allow this to happened...my wife is Thai and she thinks different...ohh well....

  8. You both are aware you compare two completely different machines...??? It's like comparing a farming tractor with a Ferarri, on paper the amount of horsepower looks pretty similar with the exception that the Ferarri has to do more than twice the rpm to get at max horsepower, and the tractor wins on the amount of torque....

Still riding a Ferarri at maximum performance will probably scare the shit out of a average person, which maximum performance on a farming tractor is something around 60km/h.

The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is a cruiser, and the Honda CBR500R is a wannabe sportsbike (and not get me wrong it's sporty).... I always had a problem with people buying a Harley and trying to justify the purchase by trying to convince that the motorcycle could actual put some performance on the tarmac... Sorry, I have a Harley-Davidson Sportster XL1200 and enjoy to ride it, but I would never compare the 1200cc V-twin with a Ducati 1198 that makes me just laugh...

    ...well,one can't have both...tongue.pnglaugh.png

  9. I lived in Issan for 6 years and I loved living in Issan, one thing about Thais as i'm sure the majority of you on here know is if you act like them you will be treated like them, if you however decide to bring your western ways here then you will be shunned at every opportunity. Western arrogance, tempers and "common sense" do not have a place here and if you display these traits you soon become known as an idiot, harsh but the truth.

So...If you use "common sense"...you will become known as the village idiot...?

read again ggt. I said if you displayed so called Western "common sense" you will be known as an idiot, not "Thai "common sense" which is another thing altogether

...so,what's the better option...to 'be known as an idiot'....or become one..? tongue.pnglaugh.png
