  1. There is also Uncle Drunks, I think its still on Bang Na.

There is also a supposed Farang Disco / Karaoke thing I think from memory on the corner of 103 and Sukhumvit, The rest is very much Thai oriented from what I can see

  2. Indo-Siam, I just re read your post

I do not recall if there was an official fee (50 baht?), but I do understand that where my Thai wife and I registered (Mukdahan), it was customary to give the registration official an "envelope" as part of the process. I think we gave 600 baht (in 1999) - but this was completely after the event, and not at all demanded. My impression was - we were making the contribution to make life easier for the next mixed couple who came in.

When I did it with my wife I theink the official fee was something like 100 or 200 baht. My wife actually asked about the "invisible hand" and they were almost insulted by it. If fact the guy who wrote the certificate dorve us to the immigration post so I could get my visa updated......

Obviously things are different in southern Surin than at the Ampour you were at.

  3. When I went to the Ampour, the main thing they were interested in was a 5 year achievement award I got from XYZ Australia..... (XYZ of course is that household name computer company).....

He held it up and showed all the other guys at the Ampour. The rest was very simple. You have to have your passport, and a birth Certificate and maybe an employment letter may help.

  4. One thing I have found is I can drink some types of drink all night and not get a hangover, no matter how much I have drunk. One of these is Scotch and Diet Coke, it is probably terrible for the liver with all that Phenelaneline (sorry for the spelling) and alcohol since I often feel drunk the next morning. But that covers up well with a cheap after shave like old-spice, so the boss doesn't smell the booze coming out of your skin whilst you are doing your "Fair Days Work for a Fair Days Pay...". Normally the feeling is gone by morning tea time.

But other times I have had a small amount of certain brands of local beer, usually 6 or less in an evening and I feel like my head has split in half. It is obviously some of the presevatives and other flavour enhancers they put in it like formaldahyde.

But to keep it on topic, water and lots of water is the best answer. I find it really difficult to start drinking again the next morning, maybe my body is telling me something. :-)

  5. If you got a version of Websphere Portal Server, from say Pantip - you know the discount one, then you can install it on your normal web server, it can serve your normal pages as portlets from youe regular http server - well thats the theory. And all you do is define the various wap devices you want to support.

I think its too much effort for the over-indulged and bored on the BTS.

  6. Timba;

Your timing may not be great, I have a ute and a couple of Thai friends who could have helped for a case of Hienekin and 1000 baht. But I am not back until then to drive my little truck (Ute for all us Australians)

It works out I pay the Thai's 150 baht for a days work x 2, Petrol maybe 300 baht (depends on how empty the tank is before we start) 500 baht stress money for me supervising and driving the rusty ute and a case of beer to sooth my nerves. :o

  7. Cheapest Way would have to be by boat - Sharpen up your sense of adventure. Maybe whilst going around Java you may be lucky to meet some people-smugglers and get a cheap holiday in Australia as well.

Then you can get a free holiday on a Pacific Island and a return air-fare (for free) to wherever your passport was issued. :o

  8. Personally I think the notion of paying the Sin Sod is objectionable. OK a token offering and some sign of respect, bet at the end of the day its a scam.

The only reason I paid it was I knew exactly how much was coming back, when, and what the rest was being spent on i.e. not Whiskey for all the villagers.

That Is why I am going to do the online Sin Sod Caluclator - to make a mockery of it.

At the end of the day when you take out the food my wife and I ended up with more money than we paid in the first place..... But we pretty much bypassed mum, did it with Grandma, and grandma gets the big benefit of living in the new house rather than the shitty run-down shanty my wife's mother makes the poor 82 year old live in.

Yes I know this situation is rare, but my wife is a bit crafty with culture and well grandma was higher up the peck order than mum (the boozer).
