  1. So like many other expats, I've looked to reduce my monthly outgoings, in what small ways I can. (Imagine a smilie in-a-kilt here !)

    You are not an expat.

The expats have large penises and housing allowance of 150K baht, a driver and fat salaries. Half a million baht a month.

If you go down with your question - it is not for the expats. Rather for wannabies.

I'm an ex-fat. Lost 30 kgs in the last 3 months!

is that cos you are in the UK cold and hungry...........plenty of rice in isaan to fatten you up.

  2. Geeze I thought I was all doom and gloom with my scenario of the world spinning off and colliding with the sun...

<deleted> are flesh these flesh burners the police are getting? :o

love your avatar, but have you ever thought of seeing a doctor?yes i agree we can get into too much doom and gloom, and there's nothing we can do about it,just enjoy what you have and where you are,and if thats thailand then we are all indeed very lucky.

  3. Why on earth would anyone come all the way to this island for holiday only to spend one second of it at Tesco?

i would imagine the only extra falangs going to tesco would be families who come here to stay their own houses or houses that they rent.the normal tourists in resorts and hotels/guest houses would n't bother.fisherman's village and banrak are quiet but would imagine chaweng and lamai to be busy.

  4. Come on cheer up all!!!!

    You remember what they "Promised"

We will do everything we can to stop this crisis........

    And they will....

    :o

    Why are war's good?

    Who are those "We's"

Remember in war's there is profit to be made.

Who provides the money for war's?

There is a way to end this crisis.

I bet the plan's have long been written.

    :D

    are you related to nostradamus?

  5. Anybody heard about this Eurasia group, looks like a Russian outfit, wanting to use people to transfer funds from Thailand to Russia?

    Another internet scam?

maybe it was getting too hot in nigeria and they've got residency in russia!

  6. Shame on you, she really is sending me 10000 baht a month enough to keep me in food and fuel whilst work is slack here in the UK. I have no mortgage and no property here anymore thankfully. A house i bought for £42000 in 1996 then sold for £175000 in 2003 is now up for sale after the owner spent £42000 on an extension for just £129000 poor sod!!

Sorry it ISN'T a wind up.

am sure there are a few farangs with thai g/f or wife paying their way.i met an english guy in pattaya here after 3 divorces that left him with little money.his new thai lady owned her own place and had a laundry business and she looked after him.she told me she really loved him and was happy to take care.my girlfriend is on a good thai salary, although it has been reduced a couple of times cos of the downturn in business, and we have always gone 50/50 in expenses.

  7. well if your parents are going to be ill soon you better up the 10,000baht.I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe your g/f was sending you the money out of your own account which would have been smart considering the exchange rate.

  8. well neverdie its cos a showy life means everything to those kind of people,i remember the first car i bought was an old morris minor,my dad bought it for 300quid and i paid him back.western materialistic growth has ben born on debt, and as we can see now it cannot be maintained any longer.we have been lucky in the west over the last 30 years,we have lived a life at the expense of the rest of the world, now that countries like china, india etc want a piece of the action it cannot be sustained any longer from an environmental point of view....................we were not meant to live like this in my opinion.

    Posh!

I just sold my old motor for £300 in the UK. A '97 Xantia TD I bought nearly 6 years ago for £800.

well either i got ripped off or my memory is not so good.then again maybe it says more about automaton bringing costs relatively lower over the years.

  10. does anyone remember the late 50's,early 60's.no credit cards,no real consumer technology in place, you worked, you saved you bought with cash.that's going back to basics in a financial sense.

Nope. In 1950 I was aged minus 25.

well from your avatar you look as old as methusaleh!maybe you should get your ass back to isaan.no credit cards in the villages of isaan, back to basics yes?

  11. yabaaa you are winding us up.i know the UK is going down the plug hole, and even without social welfare cant you sell your body like they do here in thailand.shame on you for accepting money from your girl!

  12. Well I had a very nice Xmas, all you can eat buffet dinner for 299 baht. It was very nice except the sprouts were chewy. He explained that he ran out of time and gave them to the Thai staff to cook. Say no more. Apart from the sprouts it was a feast. I did notice some bars were charging from 850 -1000 baht just for a dinner. Thats around the 17 -20 pounds a hit. JEEZ you can get a cheaper dinner back home in the UK for that. And when things are quiet you would think bar owners would reduce prices to get people in. Maybe they are using the Thai logic when things go quiet. no doubt the same bar owners will be crying about no customers etc in the new year and I don't see there being a high season this winter. My advice is reduce your prices rather than charge stupid prices, but then I don't own a bar so what do I know ? :o

i know what you mean,is saw a sign outside moby dicks(usually more known for short time rooms at 400bHT)Advertising xmas lunch for 800 baht..........starters was soup de jour, followed by usual roast plus veg, followed by tea or coffee..................they were taking the piss i think!.

  13. I'm hoping for no activity for two years. I'm gonna do <removed> all!

Nonsense....your going to get rich & we're going to tour Thailand on bikes, remember? :o

It is true that utopia of which I speak may be smashed to bits with a big job starting in Taiwan, yes.

    Yes, let's tour, but can we take the D-Max . . . it's got aircon! :D

am not sure there will be a recovery, certainly not back to the future. It feels like we are in a period of time that the bible refers to as "the last days".

anyone interested look up 2nd timothy chapter 3 verses 1-7.it accuractly describes the period we are now in.

I can just imagine you with a board on your chest, walking the beaches of Samui announcing to all to "Repent Sinners" "The end is nigh!" :D

MJP - DMAX it is, can we atleast put a couple bikes in the back of it....you know we can park the DMax just short of the watering hole and ride up like we've been doing it tuff all day :D

QS, I can imagine that there will be plenty of other people doing this in other parts of the world!

yes and then stop off in soi greenmango...............the rest is history!

  14. The exchange rate has really affected some people I know. A few guys have already lost their long term partners as they cant "take care" as much....if you think about a 30%- 355 reduction in exchage rates, cost of living increase and now exceptionally low interest rates, I would think the average retiree is about 50% down on a few years ago....so this guy would be living on the equivelant of 15,000 a month...can be done but more anexistance than living...the next year or so will see a lot of relationship breakdowns etc....

yes this is a good point,g/f or wife maybe have to work, the biggest problem is the interest rate reduction of nearly 50% thats halved earnings back home.the exchange rate too when topping up account.personally have had to stop the idea of lots of trips, other than that everyday living ok.

  15. Why is the OP yelling at us? :D

What makes anyone think that the Police 'Care' anywhere in the world? :o

There is nothing nice about having something stolen from you, but you ALL are 'Devestated' because a guitar is stolen....I hope nothing ever really bad happens.

Obviously you are not musically inclined. The loss of a guitar can be devastating to some people.

Then perhaps they should have a guitar sling and keep it placed around their neck and close to their heart. Or in a guitar case and carry it around. Where exactly was this guitar laying when it was taken?

As for my loved one, it's my 2 1/2 year old daughter. When we go shopping she is ALWAYS holding my or my wife's hand. She is always in our sight just like when she is out playing in the yard (always has adult supervision). Just last night she was here in the local market playing in one of those large inflatable jumping toys with 10s of other kids. While all the other parents just let their kids run loose without watching I had my eye on my child at almost all times.

thats really good dingdongrb, but remember you can lose your child in the blink of an eye no matter how careful you are.I remember losing my son(he was 5 at the time)in a shopping centre, was panic stricken but found him 5 minutes later.........its not a nice feeling

So in one of these musically inclined people....they will be overwhelmed at the loss of a guitar, what happens if someone very close to them dies...OR perhaps if they lost 2 Guitars.

Anyway, what makes you think that Im not musically inclined, afterall I was playing for them :D:D

as george harrison would sing "while my guitar gently weeps"

  17. I wonder if the same people who think it is okie dokie to deny service to Indians just based on nationality are the very same people who feel the same way about Israelis. This kind of bigotry is not attractive, folks.

I am not saying that I would refuse service to anyone based on nationality. Fact is, however, that certain nationalities have certain character traits. Obviously, it does not apply to all, or even a majority; but it is certainly true: some Germans will put towels on pool chairs,, some Brits will get rat-asred and become obnoxious, some Russian women will come for breakfast in a string bikini (not that I am complaining about that one :o ) and some Indians are very tough to deal with.

Funny that you should mention Israelis though; general consensus among hoteliers is that they are, by and large, the worst guests to have. Not bigotry, fact.

good for you..........as i said before bring in the basil fawlty factor of that tv series fawlty towers, and dont put up with any nonsense from overbearing, annoying, obnoxious guests,no one needs them and as an owner of an establishment one is quite within one's rights to tell them to bugger off.
