  1. Pattaya 46: Well, it is a nice place to have a walk....but, a few days ago I went for a morning stroll and witnessed 4 Thai men kicking the <deleted> crap out of another Thai man with a cute Thai lady sitting and watching nearby.

I had front row seats to this brutal attack, along with 20 other Thais that stood around and did nothing.

So, if you don't mind an asskicking once in a while, then I guess it is a wonderful place for a walk.

I left Pattaya march last year to travel, ended up on Samui, but the 7 months i had in Pattaya i enjoyed, never had any problem with violence and often walked along beach road at night(checking out and talking to freelancers).Only found Pattaya too crowded, noisy, and dirty(pollution)but swimming ok in north pattaya and beach hill.

  2. During the day why dont you go for a long walk and look around, then you will realise that you have done the right thing leaving uk.

its so beautiful here how could anyone want to go back to the UK

    Where is 'here'

You obviously don't live in bkk??

Btw when i said the UK is a sh*thole it's a term to describe what has happened to the country ie:the general decline, the weather, high taxes, violent crime, prices etc but if we are talking about raw beauty the English countryside is far far more stunning than Thailand could ever be.

by here i meant thailand.yes the english countryside is beautiful, maybe just move out of BKK.i live on Samui and love it.

  3. I would not take any of my friends there unless they really wanted to see the night life. Because everything else is crap. walking down the street is depressing, I felt like spin kicking random people just to cure the bordem a bit

whats your problem mate.........moan moan moan, hate hate hate!!!!!!!!!!!111

  4. It's not about money, it's about ones ability to live, whatever, however, wherever!
Even your average Thai can afford to eat fresh fish, prawns and lots of other lovely stuff on a "Broke" budget.

...this is the only thing I would disagree with!

The OP's "broke" budget is 17000/month which is still more than an average Thai's budget I guess.

Not sure if the OP could survive on a Thai "broke" budget though which I guess would be in the range of 3000-4000 a month.

not much fun living off a budget like that..........would become depressing

  5. Enough with the Japan talk, everyone know Thailand is much cheaper.

Anyways there is still 6 and a half months before I make my move. Got to sell my CRV that I just purchased, its a shame and all my belongings.

Im not going to go hit the beer bars all the time when I get there. I just want to get buy on the income that I hope to make from my investments and not work in a office no more.

I wa thinking about opening a small tour guide business, not really care about making money on it, but just taking foreigners out camping and all the other tourist attraction stuff just so I dont get board.

I also hear that you can buy cheap condo's for 300,000 (ofcourse im not expecting too much for that price). Which I hope to get one in Chaing Mai and also somewhere near the beach not too far from bangkok. Not Pattaya.

I think for me to make friend in BKK is to go attend Thai speaking classes and I should have no problem with it as im still in my mid 20's

well don what a load of BS,your 28,while all the worries mate!

  6. I'm thinking of going out of Bangkok for a couple of days this month and deciding whether to go Koh Samed or Huahin... Has anyone been to any of those places recently?

Koh Samed: will stay at Sai Kaew beach resort, but read that there's renovation going on... anyone stayed there very recently? any inputs on hotels and weather? I've been to samed quite a few times, but usually stay at jebs bungalows. will be my first time at sai kaew beach resort.

Huahin/Pranburi: was there last songkran and liked it.. thinking of going back there and stay at evason. any inputs on this hotel and area? whats the best way to go there?

  7. To answer PaddyThai's question above, I don't know anything new, or have anything new to report, beyond my prior post of June 7. Haven't heard from her in any form since just prior to then, as I previously reported.

Last time she and I talked, I told her I wanted her to explain to me what was going on with her, her "problem", when she could. She also said she might be coming back to BKK for a visit sometime in the future. But since then, no communication. So, since that time, I haven't attempted any further communication. If she wants to talk or pursue anything, she knows where to find me.

  8. I had always assumed that the Australian OAP was 'means tested'. Is this the case and if so, at what income level does it cut off?

I retired to Thailand in 1997 at the age of 45. My income is from investments in Australia. On the advice of my accountant, I declared myself 'non-resident' in Australia and now pay 10% flat tax on earnings there. That is a lot less than I was paying.

Should I live to the age of 65, (highly unlikly with my lifestyle), how poor will I need to be to receive an old age pension or part there of?

read your message re "non-resident" in australia now paying only 10% on earnings there.I dont have an accountant in oz and was wondering if you'd be prepared to give me your accountants contact details as i need some good advise
