  1. well the crisis has just begun and no one knows how it will unfold.

as a result of the financial crisis, yes in the past it has been solved by world wars.

maybe this time it will be coupled by environmental disasters, massive famines, nations in riots, people turning against each other in dire straights....................i,m beginning to sound like alex lah,who maybe a washington insider and therefore knows more than

  2. usually there is a column where you have to put down the reason for the transfer.have you checked your account to see if the money is still there?

Yes money's gone, and looking at my copy of the swift transfer request form there's no where on there that mentions reasons for money being sent.

did you send via telegraphic transfer or internet banking?

  3. I, as a single male, am considering LMG maxicare plan but their lifetime limit is 20,000,000 baht or under $600k US.

Although I have been in the best of health all my life, if one were to have several catastrophic health problems in the future, could that cap be easily blown using the better hospitals, given the rise in health cost in Thailand.

would have thought 5000000baht would do it.

  4. thanks ubonjoe, its just that i picked up such a visa in kota bharu but was informed i would need to show 400,000 baht in my thai account,am not married,so considered this a good visa to get.but thought the amount asked for was high.

Are you saying you just got a multi o there for marriage? Did you show 400K?

If so we need to add them to our list of consulates for that kind of visa.

no joe,i said am not married,.Went with visa run co.yes i was told i had to show400,000 baht.A note of warning though i would not have been confident of obtaining this visa on my own, hence the reason of going with the visa run co.

  5. You can get a multiple entry non-o visa based on marriage. That means you have to leave the country every 90 days and about every 15 months get a new visa.

Or if you are going to school here you can get an ED visa and extension for study.

this a question for ubonjoe.the poster is not yet married,so applying for a non immigrant O visa in the UK,would he have to show money available to get this type of visa?and if so how much?

  6. So i was thinking to by a really cool penthouse condo in Patong. Its up on a hill, incredible views as you might imagine. i know the lady who owns the big plot of land down the hill in front of it. The side of their plot that abuts the foundations of the building i wanted to buy into is already built out...however there is another rai in front of that which they are looking to sell for a cool 100million Baht. A nice 6 story hotel there would completely obliterate the view from the condo i want(ed).

At any rate, i saw this lady today, told her i was interested in the condo behind but was interested in the future of her open plot...I loved her answer...

"If you by up on that hill, you gonna be very sad...."

I guess it helps to know your neighbors in advance! :o

and thats what can happen in thailand in resort areas, you buy but you never know whats gonna happen around you in the future.

  7. Less than 1% of Indians from India travel abroad. These Indians are wealthy and always get their way back home, pay next to nothing, click their fingers and demand the best. They then take this attitude abroad with them. This can be extremely uncomfortable for those on the other end.

I could not cope with such demeaning attitude, and would have to tell them where to get off(unless it was a genuine complaint).

Financially,India is doing well at the moment, so expect more of them traveling abroad. I think they'll get unstuck when they start to come to Europe, with that attitude.

yes,and one day they will come up against a thai proprietor who wont be so compliant and then they will see some fireworks

  8. Yesterday i went to an italian restaurant, few people were there apart a big table of indians.

When they lived there was a 15 MINUTES discussion about the bill, they wanted a discount! :D

Gee, we should all be like them, always ask for a discount on everything, Samui is way too much expensive :o

as said before in this thread,i think by an indian, this is what they do all the time, leaves an unpleasant taste for the proprietors be it restaurant, shop, resort, would they do it in an indian restaurant?probably, nature of the beast.

  9. Sorry but to recommend to a complete novice that he should find/purchase a clamp on meter, remove the cover to his panel and start to test/check circuits? I think is very poor advice and if he is not trained in electrics the cost of his monthly bill will be the least of his worries.

Stay out of your panel unless you really understand what you're doing!!!

very good advice.I dont know how anyone can get a bill for 10,000 baht a month, someone somewhere is ripping the poster off big time.

  10. as i understand it when you jump on a baht bus you take your chances that he/she will go exactly where you want to go,for a price of 10 baht,if you want them to go specifically to your destination you pay extra.never had a problem if the guy goes of in another direction, ring the bell and jump off,get another and pay another 10baht,thats the system and its pretty good,i remember getting a baht bus from jomtien to soi 6 off 2nd. road for 10 baht.............a bargain, maybe farang should be charged double the thai price to help them in hard times, could anyone really complain at 20 baht a trip?well yes i guess we could, maybe charge 20 baht for long hauls like jomtien to pattaya.
