That's a really constructive comment.I gather you are one of the advocates of all night parties, regardless of their effects on other people. Some people don't have a choice of where they live.

    Good on you mate.

you always have a choice, whats the point of complaining and doing nothing about it!

  3. Previosly the bars in Kho San would give an ash tray if you sat at the tables outside, Kho San center for one. Noticed now that none of the bars will give ashtrays & tell you to through the butt on the ground. Well 2,000 baht fine for doing that. Why dont they give an ashtray? is it because if they do they are endorsing smoking in a public place & therefor liable to be fined, whereas if they dont provide one the onus is on the customer. Just wondered if anyone had been fined down there & the reason they wont give ashtrays anymore.

now there's a good business opportunity....................selling portable ashtrays!

  4. i started out in pattaya(7 months)but found the place too dirty, polluted,no where nice to swim on beach, and oh so noisy.Once i'd got over "walking street, soi 6,7, and 8...........i got out, went to phuket(patong beach)also kata before heading off to look at Samui, have now been on Samui 16 months and love it.Has the beaches, quieter pace but good entertainment(bars, restaurants if you want it),only thing it does n't have that pattaya has is good live music.

  5. I live near Bandon hospital Bophut, and am looking for a dentist to do a scrape, clean and polish.Have checked out one place near fisherman village who say they have a special offer on for 1200baht,but i have no idea if this is a reasonable price or not....................any advice, information would be appreciated.

  6. koheesti, this thread was not set out to be a thai bashing thread, just an idea to list some of the quirky things they do(from a western perspective)........no no no not thai bashing at all.

Yeah, I agree with you 100%. I should have used a :o in addition to putting thai bashing inside " ". I don't see anything bashing in pointing out behaviour that seems quirky to those of us from other cultures.

I would be really interested to see a list of what Thais find quirky about us. Do you think it would include something like - buying a house and putting it in the name of a prostitute that you've only known for 4 weeks but you KNOW it's true love?

yes good idea, start new thread(we can take the p-ss out of ourselves. Here's another close to your own.falang on holiday in thailand, meets thai lady, falls in love, goes home, one day later gets sms"am not well have to go to hospital"have no money can you send me 10,000baht........."i love you honey long time"

  7. its written by a missionary...and " they" is far too general

they believe in God, and all that crap, so how on earth are you expected to get an accurate picture from people like this?

Would you trust someone who says virgins give birth, men in big boats, walking on water.. etc

Having faith in any religion doesn't affect one's powers of observation or make them less trustworthy. On the flip side, I wouldn't trust athiests because they get so worked up over something they don't even believe exists. Morons. I'm agnostic and couldn't care less if someone believes "virgins give birth, men in big boats, walking on water.. etc". If having faith makes them happier or gives them some kind of inner peace what's the problem? However I do believe they should practice what they preach or <deleted>.

As this is a "Thai bashing" thread, let me add that I get a kick out of their fear of the sun and getting darker skin. Whites around the world spend billions each year to get the natural tan that many Thais have. I get food delivered from a nearby restaurant and seeing her walk up to my bungalow under an umbrella on a beautiful day brings a smile to my face. :o

koheesti, this thread was not set out to be a thai bashing thread, just an idea to list some of the quirky things they do(from a western perspective)........no no no not thai bashing at all.As for maps i dont think thais have been taught at school how to read them thats all.

  8. as i understand it from all the replies,if resident overseas which we are ,you have to return to OZ on day you turn 65 and apply for OAP,and because having been resident overseas for a while there is a 2 year waiting period until qualification sets in.Anyone living in thailand on a retirement visa is going to find it hard to meet this criteria cos if you do have to wait 2 years and reside back in australia that will cancel out the retirement visa.............damned if you do and damned if you dont!..........probably by then they will put back the retirment age to receive pension to 70 years old,any excuse not pay a pension.
