  1. not wearing bike helmets when its law to do so.

smoking in bars and restaurants when its now law not to.

Turning into one way streets( top end of soi green mango comes to mind)

Riding motor bike against the flow of traffic for convenience sake.

These are just a few that comes to mind, can you list some more.Personally i love this quirkyness, does n't bother me at all but i could see it might anoy others.

How good is the new ghost road?I know not part of topic but i went down there the other night quick fast(without helmet!)far cry from a year ago when it looked like a WW1 battle field.

it is THEIR country. What? are they supposed to do all things like they in your country? :D

as i said in the post i was n't complaining..............i do all of the things i mentioned too"when in rome do as the romans do"

I didn't interpret your post as a complaint either. The Thais have the right to do it 'their way' - this is Thailand. I actually think it can become an interesting and amusing thread (although some people may take the opportinity to 'have a dig', or be overly defensive - as above.

    "overly defensive"? :o

    OK - "defensive" :D

Oh...I get it...this is the Thai bashing thread!...no problem with that, but I do find that tiresome, not "defensive" at all...just find you all pathetic...if you don't like, try to change, if you cannot, get out...I did with my country. But to spend your time whinning about...really "bitching" about...what you don't like here?....that's rather lady (or lady-boy) like, no? So please, bitches, man up and get on with it. :D

not thai bashing at all,i think we all agree we love thailand and samui in particular, just a bit of fun, would n't change anything...........lighten up!

  2. First, I don't wear or own a gold chain. I used that as an example because I could wear a gold chain in the new city without any problems.

Second, the ladies are all available here, but they don't work for short time/ long time fees. Here, you simply take a walk around and look for a cutie...it takes a few days to spot the good one, and then, you can ask her for dinner or ice cream. A simple date. Don't expect to hit the hay within the same day, but if you can wait a few days, not weeks, a few days, then you can have a lovely girl. The long term payoff is much greater too because you found one in a normal area and you will not be paying on a daily or monthly basis for her time.

It helps to take a shower, wash your clothes, brush your teeth and smile. If you can do those things, then you can find a very sexy, hot, and lovely young girl. No tattoos, no smoking or drinking, no boyfriends hiding behind the apartment or on a motorbike. etc......

If you start the relationship off by paying for the girl, then you have set the tone for the balance of the relationship.

However, if you start out dating for a few days, you will gain a relationship that is not based on money. (you will pay for dinner, clothes, movies in the long run, but you will not be paying a monthly salary or giving money for buffalo/thai man/mamma/pappa/car/house/land/gold/phone/motorbike/ and other types of nonsense.

come share with us...............where is this paradise you have relocated,am on my way!

Thats tgill doesn't make it right..

Isn't that why Countries such as Thailand & everywhere else around the Globe, actually have Laws ??

there are laws in thailand...........but no one seems to keep them until money is needed.

  4. having just returned from 5 days down there am sure you will enjoy.Only stayed 1 night in krabi town and i liked it.there are plenty of cheap guest houses for about 400-600 baht a night, nothing flash but ok.Did n't see any 4 or 5 star hotels but did see more upmarket thai hotels. There are western restaurants/bars all near the customs house/pier.Krabi is more a destination for back packers, however i am your age and i had fun, stayed at a place called gooddream guest house(400baht a night with a/c..........just a basic room. The guest house has bar and food menu, big plus i found was that you got 2 hours free internet access per day of stay. From Krabi town you can drive down to koh lanta and out to Ao Nang which i liked,a very small version of patpong.hope you have a good time.

  5. if the sex tourist goes, so will pattaya.

Pattaya has very little to offer the family tourist.

much better beach resorts around Thailand and the world for that matter.

also remember to get a family of say 4 to fly from Europe to Thailand plus hotel

for two weeks is very expensive.

Keep Pattaya the way it is, Birds, beer and Tabs. :D

There would be more family tourists from Australia coming to Pattaya, rather than Patong, if the sex tourists departed :o

plenty of other places for families to go.Pattaya is "sex in the city"long may it remain so.

  7. When I first visited Thailand back in 1997 the "novel" idea my friends and I had was to move to Thailand and buy a bar. We never did but nowadays it's a cliche. Well, people shouldn't let the idea of owning a bar in paradise keep them from doing due diligence. I recently learned of a retired man from England who thought he had bought the bar next to me here in Bangrak. After paying 1.2 million baht, he arrived the other day to find out that the man he bought it from has skipped town with his money and that the bar isn't his at all. This type of thing needs to be publicised no matter how ugly it is. People need to be aware that this kind of thing happens around here (please refrain from the "it happens everywhere" excuse. We know that already). The only possible good news in this specific case is that the guy who took his money has been found in Hua Hin and just might feel enough guilt & shame to return to Samui. For both their sakes I hope so.

any update on whats going on?

  9. Am thinking too thailand is n't really that cheap a place for tourists(couples, families)some of the prices for 4 and 5 star resorts, prices are western prices, same as eating out at a nice restaurant, liquor prices too are n't cheap.Holidaying in australia(apart from the cost of the flight to get there)is n't a lot more expensive.Thailand stil cheap for backpackers though and for western residents(if you eat at thai cafe's and dont go to bars every night................where is cheap these days?

and yes the new rich are the russians, chinese, indians, pattaya will have to be renamed "little moscow"soon.Think the west is going down hill fast,we'll be 21st century "poor relations"

  11. all that money spent on the games could have gone to fixing up the lives of the poor people decimated by the recent earthquake................i bet thousands stil dont have a roof over their heads, running water or food.Corrupt govt.and look what they are doing in Africa, dont believe you can separate politics and sport,Beiging.and how corrupt is the olympic organisation anyway.

  12. just a w-nk fest! 3weeks of nationalistic pride. Many atheletes drug cheats.Host nations spending billions of dollars(sometimes they do not have, china excluded)displacing poor people from their homes to make way for new stadiums and villages.................all for what?Thank heavens the "premier league starts up again soon.

You obviously hate the games judging by your comments......

I'm not the greatest fan either, however, a century old tradition is being continued and compared to the Premier league the games are by far superior.....

What am I talking here, the first games happened in 776 BC.....

Is there any bigger sporting event on this planet ? I guess not.......

very true but at what cost to others, together with much chest thumping, testosterone, and whats the point if people are going to cheat by using drugs.

  13. I read just moments ago a news article about the ongoings in Venezuela. Makes me wonder what will it take for LOS to succumb to the same fate. Will it be the energy "crisis"? The restive southern part of LOS?

With all that is happening around the world, regardless of hunger, thirst, or wealth, it seems that everyone is learning that a small bit of dissent goes a long way. Frankly, I would not be half surprised to see LOS revert to the policies of Vietnam, Cambodia, or even China as they were 30 years ago.

With pessimism running rampant in my mind tonight, I wonder when/if the countries we belove will become intolerable.

2 things come to mind with living here that would make me leave:

    (1) If the govt.kept putting up the amount of required funds needed to live here for retirees

    (2) civil unrest.

(3)if i became really ill,i'd probably go back home.

Other than that,i dont worry too much, just happy to be here.
