  1. anong guesthouse is very good, very close to burger king up a small soi...............about 800baht per night and it now has a small swimming pool(its ooposite entrance to Samui Coral)hope that helps.

ps..............i stayed there last year for 1 week, rooms are good and have a/c.

thanks do you have email adress or tel number.

cannot find anywhere..........am going into chaweng today will get back to you.

  2. this zoning plan was a mockery of the law ,back handers were flying around everywhere,at the time there was a school there and many hotels and houses ,since the party started nothing has been built or sold ,i wonder why

I think there are laws, but they are not adhered to.Its always been about money changing hands to keep the status quo or to get things changed. If you buy property here in thailand these things have to be accepted, cos thailand's not going to change for us.

  3. Whoever wins the current political ding dong, their moment of triumph could be brief. This article from the telegraph. What will you be doing as the end of the world approaches ?

What will I be doing??? Something tanned, sexy and half my age. Way to go !!!

Cost? 500 baht all night so plenty of time there :o

    cheap charlie!

  4. samui bill very sorry to hear about all the building around your place,i would n't like it either, but am sure you will find a buyer regardless(as seen by some replies to your post).

I think its one of the perils of buying here in thailand as there seem to be no laws governing what you can build and where.probably next time you buy better to buy in a western style complex with security and high walls, then its only the neighbours that can be irritating but seeing as they'll probably be westerners you'll have more luck at communicating any problems that may arise...................good luck.

  5. Hi can anyone please tell me whare i can go to complain about a bar being built next to my house and other peoples houses,i am trying to sell my place and if a bar was to be built there i would have no chance, there must be rules about whare a bar could be built, many farang houses in the same place and also thai houses.the land is rented by someone who has a big club in chaweng also, and i cant see many people coming from chaweng to bangrak to go to a bar on waste land!

where exactly is the location of this bar in banrak?

  6. returning to the original post re aussie pensions paid in thailand,it does seem unfair to me to penalise people who may have moved overseas before reaching the retirement of 65.To have to go back to live in OZ for 2 years before retirement age or for 2 years after appling for the OAP seems to very beauracratic to the extreme. As some one else said in this thread,by living overseas we make no extra claim (other than the pension) on the govt. e.g.bus and train pass concessions,no burden on the health system. So in my humble opinion the govt. is being petty.

Maybe one of the problems with pension allocated funds in australia is that it comes out of general tax revenue, unlike in the UK Where it comes out of national insurance payments(being a % paye tax)I believe UK pensions can be paid anywhere the recipient lives, unlike australia.Sometimes makes me wish i'd never left the UK to go and live in Australia.

  7. As a Brit I am very proud of our National flag, but even more so being English very proud of The St Georges Cross

what is the basis for your pride? did you design these flags? :o

Naam kind of has a point. Excessive pride in our flags is a symptom of excessive nationalism. The trouble with that, even though it is obviously coming from our basic human natures, is that excessive nationalism has in the past, does in the present, and will in the future been a cause and justification for all kinds of wars. Not all of these wars make sense. Flag love isn't as innocent as it might appear. In the US, during times of building up to the 911 war, the flags came out everywhere, and frankly, it was VERY CREEPY. The people who were displaying the flags (and I mean everywhere, with no real respect for it) were often taking the stand that if you DIDN'T wear the flag on your chest, you didn't love your country and probably were on the side of the enemies.

have to agree here, too much national pride not good and excesice flag waving is part of this too

  8. I don't mean to be superior or anything but the handout/freebe Thai condoms tend to be inferior and have less quality than Western ones (durex etc).

Its better than nothing of course but they are not infallible.

I've had cheapo thai condoms 'fail' on me several times now.

Back in the UK I Got the 3 month HIV checks done, all clear, but the nurse says to me 'Why the hel_l are you using the local thai condoms? They are death trap for slipping and splitting! Don't use them! Here, use proper ones instead!' She then passed a packet of about fifty premium grade condoms! Cheers. :D

Had those NHS condoms before, far too small for me. :o Cheers

    Mark

well you could always blow them up like a balloon before putting on!

  9. well i hope it was n't anyone at shagwells,i stay there often and really like the place although have always paid cash, and have always thought the staff trustworthy.

  10. I live down Soi Arunothai and am very happy here. I lived down here a few years ago and made the mistake of moving down Soi Nernplubwan (East Pattaya) which I did not like, so Moved back to Soi Arunothai in a nice big house. Quiet location, Carrefour only minutes away, lots of restauraunts, 7-11's in walking distance.

The good thing about living in Soi Arunothai, is there are ways out to Sukhumvit, Pattaya Klang, 3rd Road AND Pattaya Tai.

true but so noisy, used to live in nirun..................no peace.

  11. No one has the knowledge of what goes where so when they replace something they daren't cut the old wires cos they don't know what they are doing.

Like all of Thailand, why don't they make the pavements once and do it properly instead of doing a half arsed job and having to re-do it every few years.

cos it would n't be thailand if they did
