I blame the original judge.in SA law there's never a jury,a jury would surely have convicted.
-
These rulings seem so odd to me, as an American, where this would be considered double jeopardy.
south african legal procedures are kinda weird

"backpackers" always used to refer to young people on a strict budget looking for everything cheap.I think a thing of the past.Today's young 'uns like their i phone,i pad, skype etc..............its essential to call mum and dad daily via skype and post on face book things that you are doing as you post.
From where i sit( an aged traveller from the 70's) it's kinda sad,but i'm sure they have just as much fun.

No great loss to society, now lets move on, next please.
Wow, I love the sense of biased judgment from so many Thai Visa members, and their total lack of compassion.
You have no idea of this person's background or story, nor who he has left behind...
Let's hope that no people in unfortunate circumstances cross your path, EVER!
You obviously have not been following the news on his background then...
lets hope i never cross the path of a hell's angel too.

Fair play, they found him, wonder how long to get the killers?
they never will nothing in it for the BIB
or for australia for that matter.

Rule #1 in Thailand….do not ever interact with any woman who is with another guy.
You never know who she is with….and if he is a nutter you will soon find out to your detriment.
rule no.1 anywhere i would have thought.

Farangs have a few motivations:
1. on vacation, i don't care, i'm leaving soon
2. i'm with bar girl, would like to keep to myself and anonymous
3. i'm retired, got a good thing, can't rock the boat
4. i'm drunk
5. someone else will do it
6. back home, i wasn't an activist, why now?
7. i don't understand Thai
and the list goes on and on and on...
pay for me to fly there and hook me up for a year....i'll do something...
westerners living here do so because the thai authorities allow us to (visa status applicable)..."we have no political muscle.the authorities if they want to can easily rescind a visa,so what we do is keep a low profile, watch our P'S and Q's and be damn careful when out in the traffic.Time and unforeseen occurrences happen. This is how thailand is,the authorities just dont care, and they care less about their own people unless they have wads of cash.

In Thailand life is cheap and enforcing laws means doing something. Its a bad combination. Combine that with reckless driving and copious amounts of alcohol and it all adds up to carnage. It sums up Thailand in general, not just Samui.
possibly 10,000 baht per month police salary is a reason......too busy collecting tea money, and the attitude"if there's nothing in it for me" goes hand in hand.

Just one point, the pension age is now 67 not 65 unless you was born before a certain date, I just fail 65 and have to wait until 67, they might even make the age higher in years to come and hope more die before ever getting the pension.
what date of birth for 67 to apply?
-
Jeez. 2 years or not 2 years?
Do you have to convince them you plan to reside in Australia? Ie own a home or show rental, electricity etc?
Once you get it approved you can back to Thailand and live happily ever after?
yes its important, after the 2 years its still currently portable.the best advice comes out of "international pensions" in hobart,a lot also depends on the "case" officer at your centrelink local office.
-
"heybuz,i'll say it again you do not have to reside in OZ FOR 2 YEARS PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THE PENSION.You do have to show them that you have returned to OZ to once again reside in australia,I have several friends who have done just this and they did not have to wait 2 years before receiving a pension.

I'm 52 years old. I've lived in Thailand for 1 year and haven't returned to a Australia. I guess I will return at some point for a holiday but essentially plan is I live here forever. Just for clarity....your saying in 13 years time (in the unlikely event the rules dont change) I can return to Australia for a few weeks and organize them to send me a reduced pension to my Thai bank account? Sorry, not questioning your integrity it's just that I was 100% sure non resident = no pensionif you have 30/35 years working life you are entitled to the full pension, means tested, around about 857 dollars a fortnight single,[married 657 a fortnight married with one partner ineligible.]
ineligible meaning not of pensionable age or non citizen. if you reside in thailand you will lose about 67 dollars a fortnight, the extras paid for phone, electricity ect. i f you tell them you are married you will lose the extras plus 200 a fortnight. this is based on their theory that two can live more cheaply than one. i've been all through this and all appeals excepting the federal court. my only way to access the single rate of pay was divorce.
you have to be resident in australia for 2 years b4 you can claim, you'd have to return when 63.
not quite correct. You have to live back in OZ for a period of 2 years but if you return at age 65 or over and apply for the aged pension you will receive payment straight away, although the first payment may take 3 months to get.

Saudi Arabia, the official wing of IS.
And friend of US...
If I'd been President during 9/11, I would have cut diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia.
not if you are the bush family you would n't.

Jeez, I'm sick of Australians here complaining about this and that re your pensions.
What you are is a "low class" drain on our economy. I'm early 40's and have accrued enough now where I will never qualify for the pension.
It angers me to know my tax dollars are funding old dudes here that never really made it at home financially. I really wish you'd all piss off back to Aus and keep working.
well bully for you.dont come whingeing and moaning and asking questions about the aged pension when you need it in 23 years cos there wont be a pension to get,and while you smugly tell us that you've already got enough to take care of yourself, just remember the gains you've made can easily go tits up,through no fault of your own.

I remember reading about how the isaan thais eat this one river fish raw….and this is the one that has the liver flukes that cause the cancer.
They also do drink like fish, no doubt.
I don't know them well enough to observe whether they fancy going to the doctor when they have a problem….maybe they just ignore it thinking buddha will make it go away.
most put off for lack of money, then if they do go its usually too late and the doctor tells them to just go home.
The biggest problem is poverty and ignorance about what is good to eat and what is not.You just have to go to an isaan restaurant look at the food on the menu to know its not really very good.
I refuse to eat the food, cook at home, safe that way.

Yes its right to debate such an issue, but i hardly think britain going to war will hardly matter(in terms of influence),this is all about "catch up" and being seen to back up others.

Flagator, she recently had a full health check before this problem started and was in tip-top condition 3 months ago. She has been on medication for about 2 months now.
I do worry about the amount of medication she is taking, and the long term,
She actually did sleep in another room last night away from me, but there was still no difference, she got 4 hours and was awake from 2am onwards.
All the advice given on this thread is useful, but conflicting in a lot of ways so it's making it harder for me to know what the right thing to do is.
But please keep your comments coming, I have to get to the bottom of this problem and help her resolve it.
Thank You all
TP
4 hours sleep would be ok if she got up pottered around for a while and then got back to sleep for another 4 hours.history tells us before electricity families would often do this, and its what i do sometimes, wake up after 4 hours, get up and do something and then go back for another 4 hours.

Cool?...i like.Strong winds means i can float my boat and i guess watch it sink...retire to the bar.

You lay down with the devil and its not easy to get up.

I just hope at the end of destroying isis, any of the Jihadists that survived should be charged with war crimes and legally be sentenced to death by firing squad or hanged. radicals won't change
there wont be that luxury...they will blow themselves up.Even if the west says"IS" are defeated,i believe they will morph into something else, and fix their attention on the 7 "stans" in S/E russia and onto western china(urghars),where finally they will meet their match.
-
the whole point of social media was for the public in general to be able to express a point of view without fear of intimidation,i guess it did n't work out.Governments dont like being criticised and clampdowns will get worse as security is deemed to get worse.
Welcome to 1984.

so the old terminal 1 will be for international flights?...package tours from malaysia and china perhaps.

Someone better tell this ignorant company that it is not allowed to reuse plastics to manufacture bags to contain foods, even in Thailand.
how about just banning plastic bags and bottles?...too difficult, too many interested parties would lose money?

France shuts down three mosques and four Muslim prayer rooms

I agree with your 2nd. paragraph, but not the first.many mosques are a hotbed of radicalisation and in the past the authorities have been too scared to shut them down
