Nobody ever said Farang.
An asian tourist was blamed.
And it was an Asian tourist from Bangkok.
“Foreigner condemned for driving car on Kamala Beach in Phuket; PM blasted for saying cannabis policy yielded bad results”
this headline from the AN of the day suggests differently, does it not?

1000 Baht is rediculous. At least 10.000 or more even. And revoke his visa. And confiscate the car.🙏
Hard to revoke the visa of a thai person.
could revoke his drivers licence, if in fact he committed a traffic offence

At the time the video went viral, I believe that farang were blamed as being the driver and their were howls for their deportation.
oh the irony

The answer is a clear YES. Any money brought into Thailand from abroad, no matter how it is brought in, is assessable. That doesn't mean it will be taxed but has to be added to the mix and is declarable.
I’m not sure you are correct. Only INCOME brought in is assessable to tax. Possibly capital gains also. I see no mention of assessing capital monies that are brought in to Thailand.
there is also the issue of whether the person withdrawing cash from an atm is, in fact, resident in Thailand for tax purposes. No details were provided by the op on that.

FFS where are these idiots coming from? They are making it hard for all of us, Thais are just barely tolerating us now.
They always have just barely tolerated us. Just before they needed the money more so hid it better

Similar incidents?
Germanic man grabs the collar of a taxi driver. Two Thai guys cut off the arm of a shopkeeper.
Other than cigarettes, there are some quite marked differences

The reference to a Chinese national was in relation to a SIMILAR incident that occurred some time ago. Not this incident.
it clearly says so in the article.

How do they know he was a tourist? Might be here on a long term visa extension.

If it is such a clear and present threat, why was it legalized in the first place?

But wasn’t that the masks for foreigners only story this morning? Or is there a steady stream of them coming out today?

If you said that to a Thai, they might say that you didn't have to do all that.
You may think your largess gives you some "rights" in Thailand, but Thais will disagree.
They might even think you are some sort of idiot for not spending your money on yourself ( and of course any Thai family you may have acquired ).
I’m not sure you are painting “Thai” people in a very good light with your view of what they might say.

It’s quite hard to tell which story is the 1st Aril spoof.
I feel like I read 3 of them on AN already today

Far better to say ALL overseas arrivals regardless of nationality must wear face masks for 10 days or so
How could that conceivably be enforced though? Once out the airport there’s nothing identifying a new arrival.

Locals don’t need masks because of their greater resistance to regional ailments?
1. Covid is a regional ailment now?
2. Locals can not only resist the effects of Covid, but also can’t catch it and pass it on?
how about some scientific studies proving both these points.

A lot of Russians, a lot of Arabs, a lot of Indians, very, very few Europeans or Westerners. Any place that has about 40% or 50% Russian tourists is going to be a place that is difficult to have a good time. These are not nice people, these are not polite people, these are rough people with a Cossack background, who come from a very uncivilized nation.
As far as this guy goes anytime at anyone attacks a policeman he should be locked up. Perhaps there should be a mandatory prison sentence for this kind of ridiculous behavior.
Certainly the number of west European tourists is very low.
Apart from what I see with my own eyes when around and about, I recently flew from London with Ettihad. The London - Abu Dhabi leg was ram packed. The Abu Dhabi - Phuket leg was 10% full, if that.
So wherever those people on the Londo flight were going, it certainly wasn’t Phuket.

The usual punishment for those of Russian nationality appears to be a 500 baht fine, eg the period raged Russian lady who kicked a 7-11 employee. Contrasted with the Swiss idiot who was held up to national humiliation and deported (I believe) for kicking someone.
Likely the two Russians referenced in the article will apologize and get a small fine. But I doubt we will ever hear about it

It’s Thai Elite, Thai first class or when you request special assistance. Apart from that, I’m not aware of any other legit golf cart services.
Sounds like the process used for those categories of people is moonlighting for mere plebs…..for a fee.
Efficient use of resources I’d say. The authorities should officially take over the process and double the fee. Or, improve immigration waiting lines in general, but don’t hold your breath on that one.

Swedish guy:deported. Russian woman: 500 baht fine.
I don’t go around kicking people, but if I did, I’d pretend I am Russian. After all, they are internationally regarded as peaceful compared to those violent Swedish people. /s

Has the Russian woman had her visa revoked and been blacklisted? Need to have exactly the same treatment for her as for the Swiss doctor kicker, who got what he deserved.
I thought she was a “tourist”. In which case, no visa to revoke.

Is there a hint of racial profiling to this crackdown?
I can just imagine the uproar in a Western country if the authorities announced a crackdown on the criminal activities of any Thai people residing there. Not that there is a need for that of course, no Thai person would commit a criminal offense in a foreign country.

Anutin urges Phuket officials to get tough with foreign offenders
in Thailand News
Posted
Xenophobic hate of foreigners is a current bandwagon that is easy to hitch onto. It distracts from government failure to address major issues, such as air pollution in Chiang Mai, inflation and, in Anutins particular case, the issues raised by unlicensed cannabis use.
Providing a common enemy that everyone can rail against, provides a useful distraction.
