“They also conducted security inspections in the Old Town area of Phuket, distributing informational materials and promoting the Tourist Police hotline at 1155, which offers translation services 24/7.”
what has this got to do with deporting foreigners who break the law? Do they expect them to call the tourist police hotline and report themselves?

As soon as I saw Changhi down at #6 I knew the survey was fatally flawed. It’s the best for high, medium and low end traveler by a country mile.

Immigration haven’t received a report from Trang police that he is a danger to the public?
can’t they read the newspaper and follow the clues from there?

Having occasionally enjoyed the company of Swiss Nationals during decades of skiing at French resorts favoured by them. I can say, therefore, with authority that some Swiss people are very nice and that some are complete tw*ts and believe that the world should move out of their way; thus enabling them to enjoy their activities uninterrupted or intruded upon by lesser beings.🙏🏼😡🙂
Soooo, just about like all other nationalities then?

Now, that's a proactive thing and it shows someone in the Police Force is thinking ahead, congratulations.
It also confirms my suspicion that there is some sort of mechanism available that could prevent suspects freed on bail from fleeing the country. I do hope that some day this mechanism is actually deployed and can offer insight in why it works for some and not for others. Ahem, riveting stuff, this.
Don’t think they used this mechanism for the Boss case. Wonder why not?

I wouldn’t classify it as “resistance” if he exercises his right to silence, refuses to post bail or accept consular assistance. Those are his rights surely? If anything he appears to need mental health treatment.
for sure he will have the book thrown at him, rightly so.

You didn’t have a video of the incident that could go viral and aren’t Thai.
but you know that.

“Thanet suggests the government should legalise sex work. Like in certain European countries, this would bring the industry out of the shadows,”
sex work is in the shadows? Seems fairly front and center in your face to me.

Passengers having their legs chopped off by the travelators and fliers smuggling live animals onto planes probably doesn't help.
Those things and the multi-billion dollars of corruption that goes hand-in-hand with state-run airports in Thailand.
That travelator incident is all that needs to be recalled to put Suvarnabhumi bottom of any list of airports.

They can decide whether to prosecute a crime before deporting, or just deporting... but he should be deported. This has been so public that I do expect him to be deported, but if he has the money to smooth it over the best as possible - he might only be given a 1 year ban instead of what should happen for crimes which is a lifetime ban... (the only for 1 year would not be mentioned in the press though). The moral of the story when visiting as a guest in another country (and we are all just guests as all visas including non-immigrant retirement and marriage visas are temporary -- hence non-immigrant) is be on your best behaviour and do not commit crimes while visiting.
Is speeding a crime? Not wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle? Littering?
crime is a crime, right? So be careful what you wish for.

Don’t be silly, of course not.
the point being made is that the two of them were involved in the altercation with the doctor. So far action has only been taken against the foreigner.

Wow, a minor assault charge, to background check on all foreigners in Phuket. That escalated fast.
i wonder where the issue of gangsters in Phuket came up? Afaik, there has been no suggestion that the badly behaved Swiss man is a gangster.
But in Thailand big announcements rarely lead to any action. And if it did, you can bet your bottom dollar that honest expats will be put through a ton of hoops, while the gangsters just pay their way out of any check.

In a Western country it’s a case of assault and would be dealt with in a minor court without much fuss and bother. A fine, suspended sentence maybe. Over and done with.
here it’s a national incident, partly because these days Thailand is ruled by “netizens” and viral videos. If there is a viral video, the bib and various other authorities are on the case. No viral video, not interested.
This guy was a jerk and should pay a price. National incident requiring 24/7 news coverage? Nah, not really.

The genie is out of this particular bottle, or box as Trump would say. Any regulation now is just a money earner for the bib

Given the number of foreigners entering and exiting Thailand, a percentage of whom are bound to be up to no good, this sounds like a slow day at the office for immigration, not something to shout about.
i’d expect double this everyday if they were doing their job right

So, when Thai people complain about why they couldn’t go to their hotel room, they really mean go to their hotel room AND close the curtains. Bolt the door in case a passerby opens it?
I mean how does a passing motorbike film a single spot for over a minute? He clearly stopped and made a beeline for the couple.

They suddenly realized the issues at the airport? We have suffered for years.
To be fair, most airports in the UK are the same, but Singapore is not. Compare yourself with the best, not the worst, as my mother used to say.
the sad thing is, we all know that after the hoopla dies down, everything will drift back to the same as before as attention switches elsewhere and machines break down through lack of maintenance or some harebrained decision is taken that negates any benefits gained.
I’d wager that in a years time the same issues will be back. It’s quite depressing really.

Here we go, first of an anticipated bunch of anti Korean stories in the thai press. Get those patriotic juices flowing.

Bearing in mind the current trend toward visa free entry to LOS in pursuit of ever more “tourists”, I doubt this will ever progress beyond indignant righteousness expressed online.
frankly, I personally can’t be bothered to rise to the bait of most of what is expressed in the article.

“On Friday, National Police Chief General Torsak Sukwimol moved to try to limit reputational damage to the Royal Thai Police. “
he has a pretty big job on his hands. I’ve never heard anyone praise police honesty, thai or farang.

16 minutes ago, Falcon said:And what questions are the Thais asked when they go to other countries like the UK, us, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc? They have to first fight for a visa and the are subjected to all of the questions you have just complained about Thailand asking. If it was as easy for the Thais to travel to other countries and stay for immeasurable time as we foreigners can do here in Thailand, I’m sure that everyone would be happy.
Stay for immeasurable time?
pretty sure that most foreigners have to go through visa hoops to do that. You know, the ones where you have to hold a cash deposit in a thai bank, take photos of yourself in your own home, photocopy quite a few documents and THEN, even when you have a visa to stay, not immeasurable time but 1 year, report to immigration every three months to report your whereabouts, or report to immigration if you spend even one night outside of your own home.
you know, those kind of hoops.

Can’t see that the thai government will make much of this. They want S Koreans to visit Thailand as tourists so won’t want to start a tit for tat war ( no pun intended)
in any case, what does the thai government care if a few Thais get treated badly trying to enter SKorea? There’s no money to be made in objecting and if the Koreans did a deep search for Thais working illegally in SKorea, they wouldn’t come up empty- 2

I can’t count the number of foreigners who have been shafted by Thai business partners.
I’m sure there is good and bad, but I personally would never enter a business partnership with a Thai person in Thailand. Their field, their rules, foreigner loses. Unless he/she is very lucky.
