They can decide whether to prosecute a crime before deporting, or just deporting... but he should be deported. This has been so public that I do expect him to be deported, but if he has the money to smooth it over the best as possible - he might only be given a 1 year ban instead of what should happen for crimes which is a lifetime ban... (the only for 1 year would not be mentioned in the press though). The moral of the story when visiting as a guest in another country (and we are all just guests as all visas including non-immigrant retirement and marriage visas are temporary -- hence non-immigrant) is be on your best behaviour and do not commit crimes while visiting.
Is speeding a crime? Not wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle? Littering?
crime is a crime, right? So be careful what you wish for.

She have a visa that could be revoked ?
Don’t be silly, of course not.
the point being made is that the two of them were involved in the altercation with the doctor. So far action has only been taken against the foreigner.

Wow, a minor assault charge, to background check on all foreigners in Phuket. That escalated fast.
i wonder where the issue of gangsters in Phuket came up? Afaik, there has been no suggestion that the badly behaved Swiss man is a gangster.
But in Thailand big announcements rarely lead to any action. And if it did, you can bet your bottom dollar that honest expats will be put through a ton of hoops, while the gangsters just pay their way out of any check.

In a Western country it’s a case of assault and would be dealt with in a minor court without much fuss and bother. A fine, suspended sentence maybe. Over and done with.
here it’s a national incident, partly because these days Thailand is ruled by “netizens” and viral videos. If there is a viral video, the bib and various other authorities are on the case. No viral video, not interested.
This guy was a jerk and should pay a price. National incident requiring 24/7 news coverage? Nah, not really.

The genie is out of this particular bottle, or box as Trump would say. Any regulation now is just a money earner for the bib

Given the number of foreigners entering and exiting Thailand, a percentage of whom are bound to be up to no good, this sounds like a slow day at the office for immigration, not something to shout about.
i’d expect double this everyday if they were doing their job right

So, when Thai people complain about why they couldn’t go to their hotel room, they really mean go to their hotel room AND close the curtains. Bolt the door in case a passerby opens it?
I mean how does a passing motorbike film a single spot for over a minute? He clearly stopped and made a beeline for the couple.

They suddenly realized the issues at the airport? We have suffered for years.
To be fair, most airports in the UK are the same, but Singapore is not. Compare yourself with the best, not the worst, as my mother used to say.
the sad thing is, we all know that after the hoopla dies down, everything will drift back to the same as before as attention switches elsewhere and machines break down through lack of maintenance or some harebrained decision is taken that negates any benefits gained.
I’d wager that in a years time the same issues will be back. It’s quite depressing really.

Here we go, first of an anticipated bunch of anti Korean stories in the thai press. Get those patriotic juices flowing.

Bearing in mind the current trend toward visa free entry to LOS in pursuit of ever more “tourists”, I doubt this will ever progress beyond indignant righteousness expressed online.
frankly, I personally can’t be bothered to rise to the bait of most of what is expressed in the article.

“On Friday, National Police Chief General Torsak Sukwimol moved to try to limit reputational damage to the Royal Thai Police. “
he has a pretty big job on his hands. I’ve never heard anyone praise police honesty, thai or farang.

They have to first fight for a visa and the are subjected to all of the questions you have just complained about Thailand asking. If it was as easy for the Thais to travel to other countries and stay for immeasurable time as we foreigners can do here in Thailand, I’m sure that everyone would be happy.
Stay for immeasurable time?
pretty sure that most foreigners have to go through visa hoops to do that. You know, the ones where you have to hold a cash deposit in a thai bank, take photos of yourself in your own home, photocopy quite a few documents and THEN, even when you have a visa to stay, not immeasurable time but 1 year, report to immigration every three months to report your whereabouts, or report to immigration if you spend even one night outside of your own home.
you know, those kind of hoops.

Can’t see that the thai government will make much of this. They want S Koreans to visit Thailand as tourists so won’t want to start a tit for tat war ( no pun intended)
in any case, what does the thai government care if a few Thais get treated badly trying to enter SKorea? There’s no money to be made in objecting and if the Koreans did a deep search for Thais working illegally in SKorea, they wouldn’t come up empty- 2

Why down the toilet? Do you have some metrics that support that comment?
leaving aside the carnage caused by rampant gun ownership, the obvious racism evident in some states, the damage to democracy caused by the electoral college system of voting; a number of the usual metrics utilized to rank a country actually make the United States seem to be doing rather well. Perhaps that’s why the stock market is at record levels (if stock investing is a barometer of economic metrics)

Do they know how stupid this sounds? I suppose not, or they wouldn’t do it.
unless of course they are right and it’s only on Valentine’s Day that pedos come out to play.

I haven’t seen much said about the process of segregating overseas income from capital and then only remitting capital into Thailand.
The same process that non UK domicile people use for UK tax purposes. Rishi Sunaks wife being a prime example until it was highlighted when he became PM.
Presumably that works for Thai tax purposes if the overseas accounts show clear segregation of capital and income? Although presuming things may be a tad risky

The one sure thing I’ve learned in Thailand is that bad stuff happens all the time and it will never stop because there is little to no enforcement of laws unless a case is deemed expedient in terms of prosecution, ie enforcement benefits someone involved in the enforcement process.
what do the police care about the well being of the little girl? Nothing, she’s a nobody and therefore they don’t care.

Are funds remitted to Thailand for a condo purchase now taxable, for those who are tax residents?
If it is income accumulated since 1st Jan this year, I believe the answer is yes. If it was accumulated in prior years, no, it will be treated as capital.

“a permanent visa-free policy“
What is a permanent visa free policy?
Entry without requiring a visa until such time as the policy is changed?Free tourist entry visa, good for 90 days?
Permanent entry visa free of charge.
some combination of the above?
I’m unsure why any of them would cause the condo market to boom. It was easy enough for Chinese to get a tourist visa previously and I don’t think the requirements for any other visas have changed. But hey ho, any reason to talk up the housing market is a good reason

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
If the had not diverted , there would had been complains why they did not.
If they were following standard procedure, then the passenger’s post was defamation that could damage the airlines reputation and result in loss of revenue.
The airline was right to take legal action, if I was the CEO I would have done the same, and I suspect that if this was your company you would have done the same also.
Actually, I don’t see that the passengers post defamed the airline at all. If anything it gave them publicity for taking the correct decision in the interests of safety. I wasn’t aware of the incident before, but I am now and am impressed that they put safety first.
So where is the defamation?

Better yet, throw him in a jail house full of Katheoy's and let them do jailhouse justice to him.
It's predators like him that make a bad name for good foreigner teachers....
Should there be a trial first? And then if there is a guilty verdict, mete out your punishment?
it’s sort of the process many civilized countries follow.

Bangkok airports hit turbulence: Ranked among world’s worst

That travelator incident is all that needs to be recalled to put Suvarnabhumi bottom of any list of airports.
