Doubt they'd even blink. The only place farangs are important is in our minds.

For a country that gets a huge amount of it GDP from tourism, image is everything.

Giving the Indian 800k baht to get an extension of stay is aiding in committing fraud against immigration and Thai government..

Not really. If they allowed you to submit foreign bank accounts from home there would be no issues. It would be very easy for the Embassy to authenticate the bank documents. But no! Many simply draw money at the ATM each month from their home country to live in Thailand. Some people will simply borrow the money to show the balance as that is the only thing that gives you the least problems (try the monthly income insanity or combination). Not everyone can show and keep 800,000 THB in the bank account without affecting how they live as they are living off the money. Most people in my view earn the money quarterly or monthly from home into their bank account at home. Let me ask you this --- How long before they start asking for taxes from the money you bring in each month?

  3. What are the best government schools in Bangkok?

    • Suankularb Wittayalai School (Bangkok) Boys only. Suankularb Wittayalai Nonthaburi which is mixed.
    • Debsirin School (Bangkok) Boys only. There is also Debsirin Nonthaburi which is a mixed school
    • Sacred Heart Convent School Bangkok - Primary School

Those are very good schools. There are loads of very wealthy families who send their kids there and there are also very talented kids in those schools.

  4. Why so many protests? Look at the headlines on this forum:

Have you done stuff with ladyboys?

    • I am straight and have had one or more sexual encounters with ladyboys - 62
    • I am a straight male and have NOT had any sexual experiences with ladyboys 138

Why always these arguments when more than 25% of TVF members have rogered a ladyboy? Is it the lack of commitment that scares people when it all become legal and normal?

I have a radical idea. Fast lane the employees of companies who want to invest, and re-locate to Thailand, through the visa process. Do not even require them to show up at immigration, no ridiculous 90 day visa runs, no office visits. Just a visa in the mail.

Get rid of the xenophobia, hatred of outsiders, racism, and ignorance on the part of government officials. At least make an effort to find competent ministers.

You can only own 49% of your business or did you forget?

1.) Bizarre and ridiculous. The real solution here is to wean the Thai people off of this absolutely horrendous crop. Switch crops should be the government mantra. However, since the government wants to keep the majority poor, it works for them.

2.) And government subsidies for rice just mean an artificial market, and the inability to sell the rice without losing money. It deprives the government of much needed funds. Did they not learn anything from the Yingluck fiasco? Who's idea is this?

1.) Thailand has marginal soil so growing another crop will be difficult unless there is a bigger investment. They should have started with soil rehabilitation generations ago to have avoided the current mess with rice. Rice will grow on anything and it is easy to grow so the most illiterate can grow it. They did try with the Australians to add bentonite to the soils and it doubled the yield in the North East in a large experiment but the government told the farmers they can get it for free and only have to pay for transport.

That did not take off as they did not want to pay for the transport. Most of the farms in Thailand tend to be smallholdings so they dont have very deep pockets to do it on their own. They however have to keep them on the farm as it keeps employment high otherwise most of those who are uneducated will have zero income as they dont fit into the formal job market. So its political more than anything else.

2.) Many markets tend to be kept alive on subsidies. Wheat as an example in EU farm subsidies, UK farmers get $30 equivalent per ton. This costs taxpayers however it also makes trade in these products impossible to compete with. Not exactly capitalism in the EU either as they export their wheat and corn to countries that cannot compete against their farm subsidies.

@1.33:45 Why implement this rule when TI is already understaffed and overwhelmed with paperwork?  Reply? Here are all the things you must do when you enter Thailand. Essentially, no answer.

Here is a novel idea. Why not be like China and renew the marriage visa once every 2 years. That cuts the paper down to half and makes loads of free time for other things? We are not going to have that because Thailand is more xenophobic than even China
