serious brainwashing from the parents to be successful when they really dont have what it takes.

:passifier: You summed that up very well and it goes beyond women. I think that is where all the conflict comes from. The inability to adjust to reality. I have seen some crazy things over the years with trying to keep up with the Somchai's.

OMG Thai people are so bad, all of them, and of course all farang are perfect.

You might not like what he said but he is correct. He did not say or even allude to foreigners being perfect but there is a line in the sand that most foreigners will not even cross. Running up gambling debt and then having your daughter pay it off with her tail. Thai media is full of these stories as well as here.

  2. If the push for minimum wages becomes a reality then yes Thailand will have to kiss goodbye certain industries which employ loads of Burmese in Thailand in any event. Like any other economy these industries move along much like many jobs moving from China to Vietnam. Thailand will more likely than not shed jobs to Burma next door with wage increases. Thailand is suppose to have shifted to a service and knowledge economy (high-tech manufacturing) by now but still has loads of low-end and mid range manufacturing which should be moving next door.

The guy is an American who made money in crypto currency, the world's greatest ever pump and dump scheme. Now he may have a tax burden.  As a US citizen he can be taxed in the US, in Thailand, or most any tax jurisdiction thanks to US global tax them to death laws.

Wonder if one reason he wants to be outside of any national jurisdiction is because of money?

Apparently he does not own it. See the press release from the builder.

Remember that the TM30 can now be done online … so not much to complain about really .… unless you haven't heard of the internet or are bone lazy.

I think that is only for business. If the house or apartment is in the name of your wife she has to report it in person. She has to report you each time you return to Thailand. We got a fine for it last year as we did not know.

  5. Hi,

There are new rules for the VOA. All nationalities crossing a land border now get only 15 days. The 30 days VOA has been abandoned except for when you are arriving via air. I am also told that there is no longer a 90 day rule for the VOA and that you can get as many 15 day stamps as you want. This was implemented starting on the 5 December 2008.

  6. Since then, it's pretty much the same: one does not have to be knowledgable to be qualified, either as an "OISC adviser" or an "attorney".

I would hate to disagree but to state that one does not need to be knowledge to be an attorney is reaching. You are in my view comparing apples and oranges by comparing an attorney with an OISC registered adviser.

  7. Ensure you use an OISC registered company in the UK.

OISC is nice to have but it is not a guarantee of anything other than the person or persons knows the immigration procedures. That is where it stops. I have always believed that it is better to use an immigration attorney than a layman who has managed to pass the OISC certification.

Firstly bringing your wife or fiancee to your home country does not stop at the immigration checkpoint. It involves Family Law and Property Law if you are a person who owns property and/or equity. I have seen on some of these Thailand forums where individuals who are essentially laymen dispense advice about prenups and property where they clearly had no idea what they were talking about. One I recall was certified.

The OISC certification was a step in the right direction which the UK Government put in place, however it falls far short of providing a one-stop migration shop. It gives people in my view a false impression of what knowledge these people have in terms of aspects of the law beyond the immigration process itself.

At the end of the day you could have the same argument in the Teachers Forum of Thaivisa. Do you want a teacher who completed Grade 10 and has a TEFL certificate or do you want a teacher who is a career - university qualified teacher. Which would you pick when their costs are the same? Why should migration be any different?

  8. Good on you mate!

I thank you for your story as this forum is usually full of apologists who can't see the bear from the woods. Your story highlights what happens behind the scenes. Very insightful and your book would make for a wonderful read. I am amazed however that you don't appear to feel/show any anger after all that you have been through. Well done again on getting justice to take its course.

    Cheers

  9. There always seems to be this comparison with Thailand, Japan and Korea. :o

Put it into perspective. In Korea you are going to be getting a salary of US$ 2,500 per month plus. That is 80,000 Baht a month. In Thailand they will pay you 30,000 Baht a month and refuse to pay for holidays which means you get a salary for 9 months of the year. That equates to 22,500 Baht a month.

    Korea : 80,000 Baht a month

    Thailand : 22,500 Baht a month

Who gets the most qualified teachers? You don't need to be a brain surgeon to work it out. :D Add on all the new costs in Thailand. Cultural course, new education course pay for your work permit. All in all you are going to have to spend another 60,000 Baht to earn your 22,500 Baht a month. Does that make financial sense?

  10. I dont see what all the fuss is about Siam-Legal. I obtained a 1 year Non-Imm. B from them last year for the fee of 214 GBP plus 114 GBP consular fee. The paperwork was set over to the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull, UK, and I got my 1 year visa without any problems just like they said.

This year was a slightly different note, as I was contacted by Siam-Legal with regards to applying for the same visa 2nd year running and they offered me discount because I am a previous customer. The discount was conditional, that I would deposit my remittance into a Thai bank account but I indicated to them that even thou they gave me the discount, transferring the funds would incur a transfer fee and would total the same price as the previous year. So they asked me how much i was prepared to pay. I gave them my figures and right there and then there was a short conversation with there colleagues and finally they agreed my price :o

I had no problems with my visa runs last year and they assure me that this year will be the same. I was a little skeptical using this company when in the long run they have saved me time and money

    One more time. READ

If you were in Thailand when you did this it is 100% illegal.

If you are prepared to take the risk, that is your choice.

  11. This airport has been in the planning stages for more than fifty years before completion. Most, if not all these complaining residents would have been aware that an airport was to be situated on this land before they moved in.

    Cash grab, pure and simple.

:o Correct - Some of the houses had been bought after construction of the airport had already begun. If memory serves me correct the value of the land near the airport became very expensive as everyone wanted to buy land there. I could not figure why they would want to live anywhere near the airport because of the noise and terrible vibrations which would take place once aircrafts started to land.

  12. Police said the shooting was accidental and didn't originate from anyone else on the vehicle. They said they don't have any leads and have made no arrests. Witnesses said they didn't hear any shots.

Methinks their best efforts wont be going into this investigation.

  13. In another development, Henry's sister, Mary-Jane Matheson, said she has gone from sad to angry after hearing that her deceased brother's home was allegedly looted by Maneerat's family.

In an interview with the Canadian Press on Monday, the 46-year-old Calgary resident said she has been told relatives of his wife are looting her brother's Thailand home, and have already taken his cars and motorcycle.

"Her family has been in there," Matheson told CP in an interview. "I phoned his house and his wife's sister answered. They're looting everything he had. His vehicles are gone. There's some man riding around town on his Harley."

  14. I was a little reluctant to go ahead with this question because I see so many adverts & get rich schemes that seem totally beleivable but suspect are 'cons' but here it goes.

Is it possible to do business over the internet without falling prey to the con artists & other hawks out there ? How do you go about starting up your own small business on the net & what are the pit falls to watch out for and the benefits to be had?

I'm not after people's business ideas but would like to know how to navigate around working on the net without falling prey.

    Cheers Chavy

You will never really make money overnight on the Internet. Like any bricks and mortar business it does take time. How much you put into it also pays. Here I am talking about time. Think of what it is that you like first off, then work around that looking for an income stream. There are loads of income streams other than pop-ups. Making money on the Internet is a numbers game, and in order to make the numbers grow takes time.
