  1. Hi.

My extension will end July 30th. It's not first but first time I am planning on doing it as early as possible.

    1. Can I go and do extension already July 1st?

    2. Does it take 1 month to get the extension approved or do I need to wait longer because I go there so early?

    3. Will it be extended from July 30th?

Reason I am asking is because I need to time it differently this year.

    Thanks for your answers.

  2. I just came back from this "ghost" tower with 3 friends. We went all the way up at 11pm. They have signs there in Thai language that you will get arrested if you get in. We met one foreign guy at the front picking some wood to his restaurant decoration who said it is impossible to get in but luckily it was late enough that the place was empty. Security just left and we found a very small hole to go in. No people to bribe. Dogs were scary at the front and about midway we heard clamping noise and I think I heard someone coffin. Clamping was not imagination but maybe that coffin was. Need to check the video. We had a GoPro camera and headllamp. I will post a video sometime.

After all it was a great experience but I don't want to do it again. It was very dark and there were holes were you can make yourself drop with wrong decisions. And also around 40th floor you need to find another stairs to climb 10 more floors. I think daytime it is easy to climb. Chinese businessman bought the building for 50 million USD and it will be a hotel. If you want to do the climb, it is still possible but I guess risks are high.

  3. Hi everyone. I hope someone with similar experience or knowledge can help.

I will move to Bangkok from Samutprakan next month.

I have Non O visa based on marriage it is with yearly extensions from several years.

I do 90 days reporting by mail to Samutprakan office.

    Questions are:

    1. Can I automatically just send 90 days reporting to Bangkok immigration without any notifications to either Samutprakan or Bangkok immigration?

    2. For next visa extension, do I just prepare all the documents like before but only the house registration will be different?

    3. So more simple: When moving to different city/province how I can keep the 90 days reporting and VISA extensions working fluently without any unpleasant surprises?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

  4. Finally. Thank god they got the murderers and dna match. Atleast these bastards won't be killing again. I guess the parents want death sentence to these animals. Thai polices great breakthrough was main news yesterday in Finland. Finland is by the way maybe the least corrupted country and blue eye finns believe what cops say. Now the Finlands no.1 tourist destination can continue as no.1. All credits go to great drtective work of Thai police. Well done. Case closed and forgotten in 1 month.

  5. If it is a local gang killing tourists, think about how big effect it has for the tourism. It cannot be like that in any situation. Hopefully there won't be a set up.

It sounds to me as though there might have been multiple killers because of the sea water found in the male victim's lungs and evidence of a struggle by wounds on his body. One or more assailants was possibly attacking him including dragging him into the water, while one or more assailants was attacking the girl. The semen does not match the DNA of any of the suspects currently, and sound more like the actions of a local gang.

What possibly started as a rape ended in a double murder perhaps. Based on this and the murder weapon (the hoe), the investigation should also focus on local Thai suspects, as they have avoided even the mention of this for tourism reasons thus far only vaguely referring to one Asian-looking suspect.

  6. was stopped 6 months ago(railway street ,under Motorway 7 viaduct -bridge in Pattaya)

Had tax sticker ,copy of blue book, driver license ,copy of passport +extension of stay.

After seen all this ,he asked me 400 bht.

I ask why...he inspected my tires (all as new)...came back and again asked my driver license .

I suspected he was going to keep it and did only show it ,did not give it and closed my windows .

He started getting angry, but i was friendly and was 100% ok with regulations.

He then asked for the invoice of the car .....which i did not have with me (in my safe )

That moment my wife jumps out of the car and walks to the other police man sitting on a little table under the bridge,

and she pays 400bht. The copper next to my car said "this is Thailand " i said " Cammoy" and drove away.

Since my wife doesn't want to come near that street ,that is her solution .

So i learned : if police ask for money ,just give it ,smile and continue your way, then start swearing for 10 minutes,lol.coffee1.gif

You made a mistake there I think. I usually ask why also but then I start to get the price down. Once I tried to avoid the police and drive away and the police went mad and asked me 1000 baht. I said my apologies and and sawadee them ko tood etc.. Got away with 200 baht. This has to happen quickly and you need to show regret. There should not be argue at all but you can ask why it is normal.

  7. I've been stopped by police several times in and out of Bangkok. I find out that smile is the most important document together with apologizing behavior. Sometimes I argue with them in funny manner and situation can get very funny. Police already know me in the area where I live so usually they don't stop me when I drive motorcycle. Several funny stories to be told but actually it is not good to reveal them online.

My advice: Just show respect and never argue for "real" justice. You will get away with the situation very easily with right kind of mindset and 100-400 baht. Sometimes they let me go without fine. Driving license is all I've ever needed during 7 years of stay. Both car and mc.

  8. Hi. I know there must be information about this with the search but as the regulations do change pretty often I would like to open this new thread.

My friend is visiting Thailand with 1 entry tourist visa and now she wants to extend the stay 30 days more. I know where to go and how to do it but is there any regulations for the timing?

When she should go to the immigration to do the extension? Can it be done 2 weeks before the 60 days runs out without losing any days or should she go just the last day?

    Thanks for your help.

  9. It can be a big step for many to go to the doctor and do medical check up. I suggest this for under 40 years old people already. There might be things building up which can be prevented before it is too late. I did a check couple months ago. Blood, urine, ultrasound, blood pressure etc. Doctor gave me good tips to keep living more healthy life. While you are getting older things are not getting any better anymore without exercise and good diet. Go and check yourself.

  10. I think 1900 baht is very reasonable price. I am at same position so I don't want it to be more. Maybe if I qualifie to some other "fee" group I would take more from you and pay less myself. Like I said it is always about which side of the table you are sitting or who you are "friends" with. But everyone here can ask a questions "Why I am so important for Thailand that I should not pay anything?". Only thing we need to understand that everything works here and everywhere else with money and connections. Life is not fair is the fact number 1 to realize :D.

    Topah

In my language a "fee" is a sum of money paid for a service.

The only fee I pay to the Thai Government, in return for an extension of stay based on retirement, is 1900 Bht.

    Should I be paying more?

  11. I see the point that teachers give education and money to the community and retiree can only give money. I think everyone has their own opinion depending which side of the table you are sitting about the right amount of baht you need. If you are about to retire and want to live in Thailand you want the conditions to be easy for you and if you are Thai goverment you want as much money as possible. I think they want less old people here with greater amount of money compared to more old people with less money. Very simple logic. I haven't seen any reports from Thai goverment that they want alot of foreigner retirees here with less money. Better keep the fees high and take only the people who have money. When they keep the fees high, Thailand won't be overcrowded and if the demand as a retire home is high it works like a business. Very simple. Family connections are totally different topic by the way.

    You're missing the point, Topah.

An expat teacher working here is able to spend 25,000 bht per month, and may have his contract, if there is one, terminated with no notice and without any seemingly logical reason. A retiree on a regular pension of 35,000 a month will be able to spend 10,000 a month more, and is much more likely to have some kind of medical insurance paid for via an investment if he or she isn't too old to be acceptable to providers.

Both are worth money to the local Thai economy, but the expat retiree is a better long-term bet as the pension is open-ended and will only stop when its recipient dies.

As regards contributing to society, many experienced expat teachers in government schools believe they have little chance of this due to the education system, but at least they try. On the other hand, retirees with a regular pension income are often involved in groups who attempt to help the underprivileged in both the Thai and expat communities.

Finland, it seems, has similar problems to the UK as regards migrants, but when I lived in the multi-ethnic East End of London, I saw many official abuses perpetrated on migrants unable to help themselves due to language of health issues.

Respect for human rights is diminishing all over the world, and it'll be the death of society as we know it. Us humans have the 'law of the jungle' hard-wired into our brains from antiquity, and many don't know how to lock it away and lose the key.

  12. I think Thailand system is great. I wish they use the same in Finland where I am from. I would also choose and allow people to live here who have reasonable amount money in their pockets, not someone who only use the resources and not give anything back. We have a lot of that kind of people coming to Finland from poor EU countries and people are pissed off. Think if all foreigners would be allowed to Thailand without control? Thailand would be a paradise for people who did not succeed in their life and are pretty lazy. And people who retire are going to be sick also and they need to have money to pay their hospital bills/insurances etc.

Thailand is like any other country. People basically want to keep it for only themselves but if foreigners bring something good (=money etc.), then they are ok. Otherwise you are not welcomed. Why you think you are so special that Thai goverment would want you here?

  13. I have a friend from Finland who is going to visit Thailand for Holidays 12.1 to 6.4.2014

He is now making a tourist visa application in Finland and asked me what he needs to put to the "Number of entries requested".

He will stay first 60 days and then we go and get that extra 30 days from the office. There is no intention to leave Thailand or/and stay any longer than 90 days max.

Is the single entry the right thing to put there or does it matter?

    Thanks

  14. Got my extension stamp today.

Officer tried to explain what is happening. I guess he is not 100% clear what is happening. He stamped first whole year but corrected to May 2014 which is the month my passport will expire.

Anyway there is a new stamp also. Which says

Extension of star approved up to = End of next July where is supposed to end.

but permitted to stay up to = May 2014

    Due to validity of passport.

Officer explained something that I need to apply a new visa if I don't renew the extension on May 2014 with new passport. He was also talking something about 6 months which I did not understand.

What I will do is that I will get a new passport on May and have all the requirements for the extension ready. I lose 2 months but who cares. Just need to have that 400,000b little earlier and keep it there couple months.

    Some are naive travellers.

Whilst working I travelled for several years using two passports.

One valid and one expired but containing a valid visa !

    -Never a problem !

This is what I try to get sense of. My extension ends in July 2014 (hopefully they stamp it tomorrow like that) and Passport April 2014. I just get the new passport and keep it as a valid ID and go for new extension in July when the extension expires from the expired passport. Should not be a problem.

Or do they want all extensions start with the near date when the passport is issued?

Or is it just a matter of quitting the service of moving the extension from the old to the new passport.

  16. If you apply for a 1 year extension of stay and your passport is only valid for 8 months, you will get an extension of stay for 8 months. Before those 8 months are finished, you need to get a new passport and when you have that apply for a new extension of stay, with all required paperwork. You then get a new 1 year extension of stay.

So apply on January 1 for a 1 year extension of stay with a passport that is valid till 1 September, you only get an extension of stay till 1 September. Before 1 September you go with your new passport to immigration and apply for a new 1 year extension of stay for 1,900 baht and all necesarry papperwork.

If you go after 1 september, you are on overstay at 500 baht a day with a maximum of 20,000 baht.

Is this true? There is only information about the "no transfer" from old to the new passport. That does not mean you are in Thailand illegally. If your old passport has a stamp for 12 months you should have permission to stay in Thailand that time.

Passport is just a identification from your country. It should not play part about your valid period of stay, if it is already admitted to certain period.

Or does that 500 baht / day go for the expired passports also or just the visa extension expiration?

  17. I will get my extension stamp tomorrow. Passport expires April 2014. Extension stamp should be there until end of July 2014.

Can I be with expired passport in Thailand for couple months if I don't need it in Thailand? I have valid permit to stay in Thailand. I will get a new passport just before the permit ends.

I answer this to myself. There is no problem for making a new passport at my country's Embassy in Thailand even the passport is expired. Valid other id is enough and photo. But in Thailand you need a valid passport for the case if police or someone stops you and need a valid identification. That is very unlike thing to happen but if I have a valid permit stamp on the old passport, I guess I am not illegally here. I just don't have valid passport. I do have Thai driving license.
