  1. If you apply for a 1 year extension of stay and your passport is only valid for 8 months, you will get an extension of stay for 8 months. Before those 8 months are finished, you need to get a new passport and when you have that apply for a new extension of stay, with all required paperwork. You then get a new 1 year extension of stay.

So apply on January 1 for a 1 year extension of stay with a passport that is valid till 1 September, you only get an extension of stay till 1 September. Before 1 September you go with your new passport to immigration and apply for a new 1 year extension of stay for 1,900 baht and all necesarry papperwork.

If you go after 1 september, you are on overstay at 500 baht a day with a maximum of 20,000 baht.

Is this true? There is only information about the "no transfer" from old to the new passport. That does not mean you are in Thailand illegally. If your old passport has a stamp for 12 months you should have permission to stay in Thailand that time.

Passport is just a identification from your country. It should not play part about your valid period of stay, if it is already admitted to certain period.

Or does that 500 baht / day go for the expired passports also or just the visa extension expiration?

  2. I will get my extension stamp tomorrow. Passport expires April 2014. Extension stamp should be there until end of July 2014.

Can I be with expired passport in Thailand for couple months if I don't need it in Thailand? I have valid permit to stay in Thailand. I will get a new passport just before the permit ends.

I answer this to myself. There is no problem for making a new passport at my country's Embassy in Thailand even the passport is expired. Valid other id is enough and photo. But in Thailand you need a valid passport for the case if police or someone stops you and need a valid identification. That is very unlike thing to happen but if I have a valid permit stamp on the old passport, I guess I am not illegally here. I just don't have valid passport. I do have Thai driving license.

  3. Sad to hear this. I have a 135cc scooter and try to drive carefully but everytime even that does not help. We have a busy road which sometimes has very long lane of cars waiting to get from 2 lanes to 1 lane smaller road. Motorcycles drive past this lane from right. Other day there was a truck which just decided to do U turn without looking the mirrors. Just made the movement without any indication. Maybe pissed off because the traffic jam but guess what happened to the motorcycle driver coming from behind overtaking all these cars?

When we looked the driver of the car... It looked like a construction worker from Burma or Cambodia which might though that this was just an accident and he did not do anything wrong.

  4. 90 days from date application for extension of stay was made or the first time you stay for 90 consecutive days. That would be July 10 it seems.

If you travel without staying 90 days no reports are due. Be sure to obtain re-entry permits before any travel.

Thanks for the info. I already got the re-entry but I wasn't sure how the 90 days work. Glad that I dont have to worry about it when Im overseas.:whistling:

  5. HI there,

I searched with the topic but as the regulations change and older topics can be out of date, I wanted to make a new topic.

I just did my first Non O extension in Samutprakarn. I've never done 90 days reporting. I did not get any info when I should report. I have 2 dates in my extension stamp: 1. date when the extension ends 10th of July 2011 and 2. Date when the extension was approved 10th of August. Which option I should use to count the 90 days?

    And another question.

I will go overseas very often during the year so is it right that I don't need to do anything about the 90 days reporting if I'm not going to stay in Thailand per time over 90 days? For example if I fly overseas every second month during the whole year, I don't need to report even a single time?

    Thanks

  6. Hi,

I made the first extension application 30th of June and tomorrow is the date I should go and get the result. I called to the immigration today and they said they don't have the result of the extension yet. Should I just call them tomorrow about the result or go there in person? Is it common that the non o extension result takes more than the time period said on passport? My passport says that Application of stay is under consideration of the immigration bureau applicatn must contact this office again in person on 10th of August.

It is of course easy to call them again but I've learned that the lady at the other side of the phone line sometimes talks something which is not the same what really happens when I go the office. So should I go there tomorrow even the result is not confirmed today?

  7. Hi all,

I tried to search answer for this but couldn't find it. Sorry if it somewhere obviously shown.

    Anyway my questions are:

1.I did my first Non Imm O visa extension application and I will get the result 10th of August. I had the 400,000b 2 months before the application but does it need to be in the bank account until I get the result?

    2. What other documents I need while I go to get the result except passport?

    3. I should have all the documents right but is there anyone who got the extension denied and what could be the reason?

Thank you in advance for the answers.

  8. Hi there,

I called many phone calls but seems like the officials don't understand my issue or I don't understand them. So that's why I'm trying to get help from here.

My case is that I have Non O visa based on marriage which will expire 29th of May. 400,000b has been in my account 2 months 26th of May which will be the date I will go and apply my first extension. Anyway I need to go out from the country 16th of June and come back 24th of July. So basically I don't know how this is possible if I need to wait 30 days first for the extension to my visa?

Is here anyone who can give good solution for this? I'm just worried that the whole extension can be trouble because I need to be abroad.

    Thanks

    Tomi

  9. Hi everyone,

Worth to mention in main forum in Thailand for expats that the worlds most amazing acoustic guitar player, Tommy Emmanuel is arriving to Bangkok 31st of October 2009 as a main artist at the Bangkok Acoustic Guitar Celebration 2009.

My personal favourite is Tommy but all the other artists are interesting also. 18 years old Joe Robinson for example won the Australias Got Talent 2008 TV series.

Youtube links for the songs of each artist can be found from Thaiticketmajor.com website:

    Tommy Emmanuel - Guitar Boogie

    Joe Robinson - Chatterbox

    Adam Rafferty - Billie Jean

    Michael Fix - Bach's Tocatta

Masa Sumide - Hop, Step & Funk

    Boonchob Tanomwongtana - Europa

  10. I believe these days it is much more "dangerous" for thai people do scams like this because of the internet. The word will spread out very fast and I will let you know an example.

Im from Finland and I read from this forum yesterday about the topic. After that I sent a hint about this to one of the 3 main news medias in Finland. After few hours there was a frontpage news/warning about these scams at the channel 3 website. And now I can see that people are linking that news to very popular forums all around Finland.

What we can do is that we can all go to our countries popular newspaper/website portals and send hints of these scams and warn the people.

By the way Thailand has been the no.1 travel destinations for Finnish travellers couple years but what Ive read the boards now, it seems that its not going to be that anymore. Sad for the honest people who run the tourism businesses in Thailand.

It looks like the cup is overfilled. We are not going to take this anymore.
