Wow!  The UK "rogers" there citizens with a 20% VAT?  Criminey!
"Bend over commoners and let Uncle Starmer and friends have their way with you."

Interestingly it was a Conservative government that raised the VAT rate to 20% - it had been 17.5% under the previous Labour government

  2. I would second what has been said previously about considering a base model of the M4 Mac mini

if you want to upgrade from an M1 Mac Mini (2020) to a newer Mac model for better performance I believe you will be hard pressed to get a better deal

for example upgrading to an M2 Mac Mini from an M1 Mac Mini won’t give you a big bump in performance

😏 yeah for sure I tried this already.  Perhaps your expertise can help me?

    I bought a 4-meter HDMI cable, bluetooth mouse & keyboard & the USB-C adapter/hub.

Works but too many interruptions in video, gotta keep hitting Play.Told the technician it might be the too long HDMI

    cable but he disagreed.

Internet too slow is the only other snafu I can think of

    Your thoughts/solutions/suggestions, pls

    Most grateful, thanks

I use the following set up for watching soccer on my TV from the True app on my phone

Plug my Apple TV into my TV with a 1 meter HDMI cable (could be shorter depending on where the HDMI ports are on your TV)

Change my iPhone settings so that the display never locks (switch this back after you’ve finished to secure you phone and save battery when you are out and about), then plug my iPhone into its charger to keep the battery topped up. Finally use AirPlay on my phone so that the display is mirrored on my tv via the Apple TV

Any solution you have will be limited by your internet connection and the WiFi signal in your home.

If you have good internet but poor WiFi then you’ll need a laptop or pc that you can attach to your router via an Ethernet cable

If you have poor internet but a good mobile phone signal then you could consider getting an internet router that runs off a SIM card. You’d then need to get a SIM card with a data only plan

  4. I’m thinking of switching my extension from being based on marriage to being based on pension but I’m not sure if I’ve left it too late for this year.

My current extension runs until 31/10/2024 but I’d like to do the extension on 15/10/2024 just in case there are any issues.

If I increase the money in my savings account to 800,000 before  15/07/2024 will that be in time?

    Thanks in advance

  5. Just looked at the online booking service for Division 5

For some reason Chiang Mai only offer bookings for 4 types of extensions and Thai Family is not available

All the other offices I checked, Chiang Rai, Mae Sai, Lampang, Lang Phun, Mae Hon Song, Pai, all had many more types of extensions available for booking

    Do they have a photocopier?

At Central Festival Immigration they do - the girls at the entrance desk took a photocopy of my 90 day report and did not charge me for it. It seemed that the Chinese lady in front of me who was doing re-entries for her and her 2 daughters was charged as she was missing a few photocopies

It also looks like there is a “private” photocopy service available further into the mall but close to immigration

Can you go straight to the re-entry desk, or do you have to join the queue with everyone seeking all other services?

I was there before 09:00 this morning so I don’t know what happens later in the day but here’s my experience

about 08:45 a group of girls come out and pre-checked everyone’s docs

if your docs were ok you got a separate number (plastic card) for either re-entry or extension and joined a new queue. If your docs were not ok (ie form not filled in) you had to step out of the queue to fill it in and wait to get your number.

when the doors opened you went to a waiting area behind the entrance desk, but before the waiting area for the processing desks

When your number is called you go to the entrance desk where they re-check your docs and make sure you have the money to pay. You are then given a new number (paper) and move to the processing desk waiting area and wait for your new number to be called

I don't know how accurate this is, but I've heard that Re-entry permits at Central Festival CM have to be done before 11.00 a.m. I'm still to check this out, but will be asking the question at CM Immigration on Friday when I do my extension.

As of this morning Central Festival Immigration says are-entry permits are open 09:00 to 11:30.

This is at the entrance - on the re-entry desk is says 09:00 to 12:00 - I would go with what is said at the entrance to be on the safe side
