  1. Somehow i doubt that the Eskimos are in the sack sockless.

When I was a scout leader I would take the kids camping and always tell them to put on clean socks before going to bed and wear a toque. In one camp the kids dug them selves a snow cave and were warm all night.

Most of the body heat will be lost through the top of the head. If nights are cold get a sleeping hat like Scrooge wore.clap2.gifwai.gif

It depends on you definition of 'most' ;)

If your head is the only uncovered part of your body then most of the heat will be lost there, likewise if your feet are the only uncovered part of your body then most of the heat will be lost there.

If all your body is uncovered then your head will lose pretty much as much heat as any other part of your body

  2. Thanks for the suggestions guys - I'll keep them in mind as I advance my project

I'm not going to go top of the range as I'm not a hardcore gamer - I just want games to look prettier and run more smoothly than they do on my 4 year old laptop ;)

I reckon I'll be able to get away with a 256 gb ssd as all my media is on a separate server - the new machine will only need to store the os and the 4 or 5 games I regularly play

  3. Hi,

I'm thinking of building a gaming PC as a project over the next few months - there's no rush and it's not high on the priority list of things to do so I figure I'll just buy the components bit by bit

It's been a while since I've done this and I'm not sure what I should be looking for in a motherboard - I know it'll have to support the processor and the type memory that I buy, I know I'm after USB 3 ports and that as I'll be buying a graphics card that on board graphics won't be necessary

Other than that what other things should I be looking out for? Is there a manufacturer or manufacturers that are considered better (or worse) than others

    Thanks in advance

  4. why were a load of monks out getting alms at about 11 ish on loi kroh road last night !

    anyone know ?

    dave2

ps .. ive seen bargirls on their knees many times at night :)

but not in front of monks ! ... pics not posted

I believe we're at the end of (forgive my attempt at spelling) cow pan sah (Buddhist lent) so it may have something to do with that.

My brother and sister in law were at the temple late last night and my wife and her friends have gone today

  5. At most, 2% of the expats I have known have had it in 25 years. At most.

I was unlucky enough to have to years on the bounce so I must be personally responsible for upping the average ;)

  6. My understanding is that your insurance is only valid for three months when driving on a foreign driving licence or International driving permit.

If that is true then the 'fine' being levied would be for driving without insurance - however as they let you go without paying maybe there was an ulterior motive e.g. Asking 500 baht for a 200 baht offence

This is wrong as long as you have a valid drivers's licence the insurance follows the vehicle unless specifically stated in the policy. Mandatory insurance does not state so in the policy so as long as you have a valid licence you are covered. Mandatory insurance only covers medical payments for the vehicle insured, nothing else.

Is a non Thai driving license still considered as valid if you have been in the country for longer than 3 months?

  7. Question: I have a car and motorcycle license in my country.

I do not have a Thai Drivers License yet.

I own a motorcycle here in Thailand, but not a car.

Can I still get a car drivers license if I don't have a car to test with?

You can convert your 'home' driving licence to a 1 year Thai driving licence without having to sit behind the wheel of a car

All it needs is paperwork, a few hundred baht and a colour blindness reaction test

It is the same process to convert a 1 year Thai driving licence to a 5 year Thai driving licence

I haven't renewed my 5 year licence so I can't comment on that

Thai car and motor cycle licences are 2 separate items so the money is doubled (I think) and some paperwork needs to be duplicated

Took me about 1/2 hour if I recall correctly

  8. My understanding is that your insurance is only valid for three months when driving on a foreign driving licence or International driving permit.

  9. This is a dumb question probably. On windows when upgrading the OS you can choose which version to install.

If I buy the iphone 4 (price v cheap now) I am assuming apple will want encourage downloading an OS upgrade at some point. iOS 8 could potentially render the iphone4 useless. Is there any way of choosing the earlier upgrade? Say IOS 6 or 7 ?

I have an iPhone 4 and ios 8 is not available so you don't have to worry about upgrading to it

I prefer ios 7 to ios 6 - only real negative I've found is that you cannot delete an entire album in one go - only song by song

  10. No problems - is your debit card European or Thai? If European you can use it on the battlenet site to pay for a digital download and game time without having to wait for the post service to deliver - if it is Thai I'm not sure if it will work but maybe worth a try

  11. You can do instances and raids at 200ms - you probably don't want to be going heroic raids or trying to raid with top rated guilds

Unfortunately I don't use game cards so I don't know of any shops in Chiang Mai nor do I know how to tell the difference between US and European game cards

Another option would be to use amazon as they sell both the game and cards - maybe family or friends in your home country can order them for you with a delivery address in Chiang Mai

  12. Wifi is is ok for playing unless you're doing high end raiding

I use my European battlenet account so that I can use my home country credit card

The trouble with game cards is that you will need to ensure you get a European game card if you want to play on European servers - American ones won't work

If you have a credit card from a European country you can download world of warcraft from the blizzard site (might take a while) and create an account using your credit card

You can download the starter version and play up until lvl 20 without having to pay anything if you want to trial the ping rate, etc

  13. Hi there,

I don't know of shops in Chiang Mai that sell game cards

As the the ping rate to European servers that can fluctuate - generally I am green with a rate of just over 200 but occasionally I'll get a continuous period of yellow (normally around 400) or red

    Hope this helps

  14. One option to try is to google the true modem model number and look to see what the default admin user and password is

Generally the True install guys leave this at the factory default value

Tried that. Default is admin/admin, but it didn't work.

You must have had the one diligent installer ;) Sometimes True can be persuaded to give you the new password if you phone their support line and explain what you are trying to do. You may well be able to resolve the issue without having to access the modem settings but it's always useful to have access just incase

  15. I may be banging my head against a wall, but I already have a headache anyway, so what the heck.

Let's assume there's nothing to this "climate change" malarkey. Let's assume that the vast majority of climate scientists are wrong. Not just wrong, but almost hilariously wrong.

Would it be so bad if we reduced fossil fuel consumption, consumption of which causes pollution, which in turn affects the health of billions, the quality of the air we breath, healthy plant growth, heat island effects in cities? The extraction of which risks irreparably polluting our oceans, food sources and the livelihoods of those least likely to benefit from all that development?

Supporting more sustainable development is a good in itself, whether one's a climate change realist, agnostic or denier.

    T

    Agreed

Also from another stand point fossil fuels have a finite supply and the main ones are currently running out so the costs will go up over time

Solar energy, wind energy and wave energy are practically limitless - does in not make sense to invest in developing these from an economic point of view ?

I have a feeling that there is a correlation between the people who want to cling on to fossil fuels and the people who complain about the increase in cost of electricity and petrol ;)
