  1. Some visiting friends were kind enough to bring over a bottle of Pimms but I haven't been able to find any lemonade to mix with it

7up and sprite are too sweet to use as a mixer so does anyone know where in Chiang Mai to buy lemonade or do you have any suggestions for a good replacement mixer?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Went in a typical Thai liquor store today and they had stacks of tonic water - no shortage at all - just stay away from the big supermarket chains ;)

  3. My favourite event was when one of the guests at my wife's guesthouse went for a walk and got lost

She went into a 7-11 to ask for directions and one of the guys behind the counter popped her on the back of his scooter, drove her back (about 2km) and wouldn't accept any recompense from either the guest or my wife

  4. Those who demand that anyone who has less money than the poster return to their home country.

Due to a small lottery win and even smaller interest payment those few who have less money than me will know need to raise an extra £10.07 in order to remain in Chiang Mai ;)

  5. I purchaced a Ipod for my son and want to download games and music and went to the bank to open an over the internet purchase account . My wife has just complained that it's turned out expensive , he said he downloaded 1 game and a few songs and we were billed for 800 baht.

Is there extra costs and charges on top of the price of the games and songs if so could you tell me what is the actual price of the games etc

    Thanks

You will receive an email from iTunes shortly detailing what your son has bought and how much each item cost

In the meantime change the password on your itunes account so that your son no longer knows it and then he will have to ask you when he wants to buy something and you can see the cost beforehand

  6. Got to be careful going into bars around there. I wandered into one for a beer after a bit of a stroll and suddenly realised that it was bereft of girls.

But I had a beer anyway, everyone was very social.

  7. you can get all bbc radio through the bbc web site

the bbc iplayer radio app is excellent

So why couldn't I listen to The Ashes even though I pay a BBC license?

The BBC only holds the internet radio broadcast rights for certain events (premiership football commentary, the ashes, etc) for the uk

When the BBC website detects that you are in a country that it doesn't have the broadcast rights to (I.e. Thailand) it will prevent you from listening to the program

I'm guessing as the Ashes were in Australia then an Australian broadcaster was controlling the worldwide rights and only sold the BBC the U.k broadcast rights

  8. Hi there,

I'm looking to get in new tv sometime in the next couple of months and wondered if anyone had any recommendations that I can add to my short list ;)

Here are my requirements so far:

    Type: LCD / LED

Size: 42 - 46" (happy to go bigger but unfortunately Mrs Diver has set the limit ;)

Smart TV: Not required (don't want to pay for something that my Apple TV and laptop can already do)

3D: Not required (I find it a gimmick tbh so don't really want it)

    Cheers,

    Narked

  9. I hope someone will prove me wrong but I don't think the Apple TV will work on a wireless network such as the one you use as the atv doesn't have a web browser

Is there anyway that you can set up the MacBook to be a private hotspot in the same way that iPhones can? That way the atv could share the wireless signal from the MacBook

The atv also has an Ethernet port so it might be worth investigating to see if you can connect the atv to the MacBook that way

  10. Hi,

I'm looking to open a bank account in Chiang Mai - I have a work permit so hopefully that will make things easier

At the moment I'm looking for people's advice/recommendations for which bank to use

I'm sure that one bank won't match everything but some of the things I'm considering (in no particular order) are

Which bank has the most and best location of ATMs across the city (I understand thee is a fee if you draw money from an ATM from a different bank)

Which bank has the best online banking services (I have to transfer money to a couple of different Thai bank accounts during the month)

Which bank is easiest to get a visa debit and/or credit card from

    Thanks in advance

  11.

If the purpose is to backup RAW files, you might be able to save yourself a lot of time by burning them to a blu-ray disk and mailing it back to your home.  Taking up a table at coffee shops and restaurants to upload your photos might seem like a clever strategy, but is that how you really how you want to spend your holiday in Chiang Mai?  Even if you can get a consistent upload speed to your server of 2 Mb/s (unlikely), it's going to take 66 hours to upload 30GB of data.

"And here's a picture of me uploading my pictures" ;)
