  1. I seem to recall reading somewhere ( and this may be a mis-remembrance) that if you want to add a covered enclosure to the back of an open truck you have to re-register the truck at the vehicle office

I know this doesn't directly help with getting the canopy created but might be worth bearing in mind

  2. I used to go with my wife and friends to the bar under one of the big hotels next to Kad Suan Kaew - I think it was the Chiang Mai Orchid (but haven't been there in a few years)

  3. Is that the Chinese restaurant at the end of the walkway with all the Chinese lanterns...up the steps?

If so, best Peking Duck I have had in Thailand.

One of my favorite restaurants in CM.

Yep - that's the one - great Peking Duck and Dim Sum

  4. I'm down to my last 4 or 5 pages in my UK passport even though it has another 2 years to run

As I'm back in the UK next month I was thinking of taking the opportunity to get a new passport

Do I need to get any additional paperwork from ukpa to show to Chiang Mai immigration to get my visa, extension to stay and re-entry permit transferred to my new passport?

    Thanks in advance

  5. We've used a cable company called wizard I think. We replaced wetv with them last year as they were cheaper- they have a few Vietnamese sports channels so for the three o'clock kick offs normally there's a choice of three matches with English commentary

It also has universal channel, Sony channel and a reasonable film channel

  6. Anyone remember Ant Robertson? is the spotlight club still going?

Spotlight is only a shadow of its former self.

Last time I went there was 1997 and it was rubbish then, girls with stars pasted on their tits bah.gif

Exactly. But mammaries do improve with age.

    ( Wait.. )

    Thanks for the mammaries ;)

  7. Wonder if immigration get rent free office in an effort to get more customers to Prom? Doesn't make sense renting there when they have offices across the road.

You know I'd thought about this months ago. Not necessarily immigration, but an anchor tenant of any description which would bring the punters into the shopping centre. It makes sense on so many levels to have a loss leader of this kind, although it would be setting a bad precedent for future retail developments (when has foresight bothered Thai people?). Although it goes across the grain of the way things work here when business is bad, anything which increased the foot traffic out there would be worth not only giving away for free, but perhaps even giving other concessions to boot.

And while I said not necessarily immigration, what a good idea it would be if it could happen. They could even sponser a the salary of 2 or 3 low level staff to keep things moving along nice and quickly. The easier it is in immigration, the fewer people that would use agents after the initial application and the more people there would be taking their wallet out for a walk once their business was complete.

We should just call ourselves consultants and charge a huge fee.

You'll need a work permit for that ;) Sorry couldn't resist

  8. Hi,

Does anyone know the "official" cost of a taxi from swampy to the sukhumvit road area?

I have a friend arriving next week and they want to ensure they have enough cash on them for the fare

    Thanks in advance

  9. Subject, Page 1: "Promenada - The beginning of the end?"

Page 13 - talking about the toilets in the ladies lingerie department at Kad San Kueaw!

Thai Visa posters, ya gotta love 'em!

Without guidance the children will wander off....

Must be time for the the topic to morph into a burger or pizza thread ;)

  10. If it were not for The Dukes and Ragu, Promenda might have no customers at all. I only go there for Ragu.

Also Fuji and Tsukemen 55 is an interesting ramen shop. (Involves a little pot that you heat at your table). The Southern Thai food in front of Rim Ping is also good.

Another vote for Tsukemen 55 here ;)

  11. I asked the manager at Ragu's about it a week or so ago.

He said it was on hole as Dukes at Maya was now taking precedence.

So I guess it may be a while yet

Speaking of Maya it is the one mall I have never been to.

I just pretty much avoid Huay Kaew Road at all costs...except for when I need to get to Grace Clinic

LOL. Yes, I visit Nimmanhaemin twice a year. When the kids have their dental checkup. (Dentaland).

I have actually been at Maya once. One of my best U-turn moves ever, coming down the Superhighway pretty much in the grass ALL the way on the left, then just meters for the traffic light forced all the way right for a U-turn and JUST made it through on the orange light. It was beautiful, but sadly before I had a dash cam to share it with the world.

You had me there for a minute.

I thought you meant you went in to Maya and came right out when

you said one of your best U turns ever.

Got to thinking it over and one little fact that might help them (very little)

but a bit is if the Theater would play other shows than the ones

all the other ones are playing. Play the block buster but not in every theater.

They already do play different movies - Maya is the only cinema showing Citizen Four as far as I am aware
